Food items question?

I bought an item from the bean sack for about 2000 EC. Is the item only used once when you select the creature you want to feed it to in your inventory? Or is it out for display whenever someone feeds that certain creature? So confused :/ it would suck if only the buyer can use it. That and only using it once? Is it only to be used when your creature is close to dying?

Only you can use it and it gets one use. It increases your creatures happiness and has a chance of raising one of its stats.
