I really don't like the popup notifications. Especially since I have a lot of creatures if their happiness is low it gets really annoying and distracting when I'm trying to do things. It's not just with creatures dying. I don't like the constant steal attempt notifications. I think it would be a nice idea to have an option to turn off in site notifications like creatures dying or steal attempts. Honestly I liked the old notifications system better.
