I assume i would make ocs first but i'm not sure how to start role playing, most sites i start role playing with a buddy and then go from there, but i have no idea how this even works!
I'm not used to starting without a bud, do we role play using creatures or humans or both?
If those who are familiar with role playing on this site could help me out that's be great!

Hello! I don't role play much on the boards here, but from what I've seen, it operates largely the same as where I started, so I think I can help.

You don't have to maks OCs before you want to role play (I've many a time made OCs specifically for a role play I wanted to join,) but there are character outlines that need to be submitted to the OP before you can join. This usually occurs on a sign-up board where the plot of the role play described and rules are layed out. This board is pretty helpful since it keeps everyone's characters in a place easy to find them, and prevents the role play from getting cluttered with ooc: posts of potential joiners.

For what you role play as, it really depends on the topic. Usually from reading the plot of the role play you can figure out what it is you play as. Sometimes there are eggcave role plays where you do play as the creatures on this site, but there are many different types available so whether you want to play as a human or a creature is up to you!

Joining a role play is quite simple! All you do is go to the sign up board if there is one (there usually is) and submit your character to see if you get accepted. From there sometimes you have to wait for more people to join so there are enough players, but other times you go to the role play board, post your intro, and carry on from there!

I think that's everything, but if you have more questions feel free to ask!

I'd say the best way to start is to make a sign-up board first. From there you would include the plot, any rules you might have, and the character sheet you would want your joiners to fill out. I reccomend looking at some of the existing boards to get an idea of what a common format on here would be and then modify it to fit your needs.

I belive it is after you get enough people interested in your role play that you create the board where the actual role playing takes place. It seems common to include the plot and your character's introduction in your first post, and sometimes who plays what character will be included in the first post as well, but that tends to vary based on what the role play is about and who the OP is.

As someone who enjoys creating plots and such, I think I can help you.

Think of a unique idea in your head. Give that idea a plot and event to understand why the idea is occurring in your roleplay. Then, think of the world around the roleplay. Is it a dystopia? A utopia? Or is it just years before?

Don't forget the usual rules, such as the ban of godmodding and mary sues. And if you forget the form in a roleplay, how can we start if we don't know who the characters are?

@nightmaremoon12 hmm, as a person who writes stories this shouldn't be too hard, should i create a plot or join one first, i think that if i create a plot first it'll be easier to show my ocs, but thats just me

But one thing i am confused about is a form, how do i make one and what is it?

@icefirevulpix A form is how we describe our characters. This is an example of one from a roleplay I made.

Name:*
Age:
Gender:
Species:
Appearance:*
Clothing:*
Abilities/Powers:
Weaknesses/Flaws:*
Personality:*
Other:

Anything with a '*' next to it means it's imperative that you add something to it. Without it, how does your character look like? What are their flaws? Note that age and gender aren't asterisked. You can have the age be unspecified, and have a non-binary character if that floats your boat.

If you want to know more about how an RP works, I recommend you start by joining a roleplay.
