I know I probably shouldn't ask this, and the answer probably is no, but is there a way to get CC without paying any money?

Yup. You can trade for it.

Or, you can feed creatures for EC, then once you have a certain amount of EC then you can trade it for the equivalent CC. Examples:

50CC = 500,000EC
100CC = 1,000,000EC
150CC = 1,500,000EC
200CC = 2,000,000EC

and so on.
