@pipkitten

Do you know what the previous owner fed her?
Maybe you could feed her some of that mixed with the food that you actually want her to eat. Then eventually you could completely switch her over. ^^

Yeah, I agree with icymuffin. That's a good Idea. In Life skills they say to do that with milk. If you are drinking whole milk, switch to 2 percent, then 1 percent, then eventually skim... completely off topic.

@Icymuffin: I actually have a container of the food they were feeding her, but it's not even for box turtles. It's for red-eared sliders, frogs, and newts. So I'm hesitant to give it to her...

@Rileytibbles: Dried bugs, strawberries, grapes... *writes on list* 😊 Heh, research I shall~

@pipkitten

I believe you. But at this point, its better than having her starve to death. D:
I'm not a vet or anything, so don't take my word for this...

I've read in a lot of places that if you want your pet to switch food, you'll have to slowly switch them over or else they won't eat it because they don't recognize the new stuff.

Mm. Like, 50% old & 50% new. Then the second day 25% old & 75% new. Then the third you completely feed them the new food?

I'm not sure if that'll help, but that's what I read... ><"

@Icymuffin: True, true.

I just finished mixing a bit of new and old together and set it in front of her. So far, she's just looking at it...
Hopefully she'll decide to eat some.

Yeah. I am hoping that your turtle will live. I hate to see animals die but I love them so. Like I said.... don't trust pet land! They are evil!!! They get most of their dogs from puppy mills and if they don't get bought within a week.... they kill them! Ugh! I despise them!!!! If I get rich I am so opening a pet store where we never kill animals and go house to house to offer pets. The will be very cheap too!

Try putting some of the food in your hand and offering him some. That works with my snake and my dog.

@Pipkitten

Have you tried force feeding? I don't mean shove the food down her throat I mean put the food in her mouth and wait for her to swallow it herself, just be sure the food isn't too big so that she does not choke you may need to ground it up first... I had to do this for my snake a while back cause I wanted him to learn to eat prekilled rats so that I would not have to buy him live ones anymore and since he refused to eat them I tried that and now he eats them just like he would if they were alive... I'm not sure if this would work for your turtle since turtles and snakes are completely different but you could still try... Hope she gets better! 😊

@juliettbrown

....That really wasn't needed. Sarcasm or not, that still hurt and you could have kept it to yourself.
I was telling her the outcome that may happen.

And added "But I found him too late" Meaning she can still save hers.

He //just// died yesterday, after a long battle of me force feeding him to get food into him, and him just giving up.

So thank you. Thank you so much.

@juliettbrown

Please try to be more considerate of others, and not just post somewhere to post. If you have something to contribute that will be of use, then go ahead. But if you're just posting to gets posts and be seen, it's not okay.
@cafe was trying to help by agreeing with the force feeding, and your use of sarcasm, no matter how it was intended, was uncalled for.

I know it probably doesn't seem like my place to say something, but @cafe is a good friend of mine, and they way you treated her is not sitting well with me.

❤️
Now for my real reason for coming to this thread.

@pipkitten

I'm not sure if your problem has been solved yet, but I do have something to mention.
I know your situation is a bit different from mine, but hear me out.
I rescued a turtle on the Fourth of July, and it wasn't eating. Thing is, it took awhile, but it did end up eating. It's worrisome when they don't eat, and if they do go for too long without eating, force feeding might be the best option, whether it be liquid or solids. In my case, the turtle just wasn't used to its habitat, and needs the tank covered a bit more to give them a sense of security. I found that out by adjusting the background and moving the turtle's location. It was a wild turtle, so I ended up releasing it back into the wild when it looked and acted healthy again. Also, a bit of fresh air did it some good - although I'm not sure if that's just because of where it was from or what.
