What animal is your sona?

I'm guessing there are a handful of animal enthusiasts and furries on here. I'm curious to know:
What animal is your sona or main oc, and why did you choose that animal? (if you have a reason!)
I would love to see them too if you're comfortable sharing : 3

I don't consider myself a furry but I like drawing animals and grew up on Animal Jam so I have a fursona ^-^ Her name is Alice, she is a Kinkalow cat!

I knew from the beginning that I wanted her to be a cat for a few reasons -
1) felines are very commonly drawn animals, so choosing a feline makes her more accessible for other people to draw and hopefully less intimidating for more inexperienced artists (although her outfit is quite complex, so I guess I wanted to balance it out at least a little with a familiar species)
2) I really like cats ≽(•⩊ •マ≼ meow meow... When I have the finances and space for it I will adopt a cat (or cats. probably many cats.)
3) I felt like a cat is a fitting representation of my personality. I have sensitive hearing, I'm wary around strangers, I like to stim by meowing (it occurs as a tic as well), I need a lot of personal space and I like to do my own thing on my own time. I also really like meat LOL

Curl ear cats are so silly I knew I had to go with a curl species, I decided on Kinkalow because since they are a mix of American Curl and Munchkin they have stumpy little legs, and I am indeed short, which has never been a trait I'm happy about, but incorporating it into my sona makes me regard it a little more positively.

sorry if you didn’t want to be pinged here, so hope you don’t mind me dumping this much info ‘bout my sona!

she’s a thresher shark (doesn’t use the upper lobe as a whip tho) as i really think they’re cool (and cute cuz of their big eyes and “worried” expression) and pink cuz i like the color 👍 been my sona and main at this point cuz other OCs i’ve made have only been snippets of me and interests, so they don’t represent me as a whole

am i a furry? genuine answer: idk
never thought ‘bout it much other than jokingly referring myself as a “100% self-approved furry” (cuz of my sona), but i don’t draw furries much (aside for practice/“what if” stuff)

as to how she came to be? it’s been a while, but i think she came to fruition from one of those tumblr memes of “what’s your [X]?” with the month/day gimmick. at the time, she didn’t have a name, so i just went with what the meme gave me.

1st iteration (~2012-2013): more natural colored (main body color gray, including long dark hair with ahoges cuz why not) and dressed a lot more like me (white jacket with black pants and glasses), but i didn’t stick with that version for long lol (she was just a shark with a weird caudal fin shape, nothing specific)

2nd iteration (~2013-2015?): changed main body color to blue (i really don’t know why) and clothes are now just a pink shirt, pants, and slippers (yeah idk either). didn’t stick with it long either, so i changed her main color again to pink (which includes her glasses and hair with some weird streaks/spots). she did have a name at this point, but it was from a MLP thing (that’s all i’m gonna give you). did get into furry music and really enjoyed the album art (y’know where this is going)

3rd iteration (2016-2018): still pink, but now a specific shark with an actual caudal fin shape (a thresher cuz they look really cute) with a pink jacket, pink shoes, and purple(?) pants. eyes are a seafoam green (dunno why i went with this, prob for “contrast”) and hair’s shorter (at the shoulders). this is prob where my interest in sharks came in cuz said furry artist that (once) did the album art really influenced me on how they drew furries (bold and dynamic lines/poses/colors)

4th iteration (2018-now) + 2025 fit update: kept her pink, but now changed her jacket to be white, eyes purple, and hair to be angular (still with the ahoges) in solid hot pink. 2025 fit update is pretty much what it says: jacket now has cool sleeve designs, pants have a decal, shoes are accented more. this version’s been the longest with me (most of that timespan’s from me drawing fanart (and being too lazy to update her fit)), so yeahhh

sorry if this was more ‘bout my sona’s design changes than herself, but this was nice to blab ‘bout something i’m comfortable sharing with 👍

TL;DR: she’s a shark (cuz they’re cool), came from a tumblr meme, design kept getting changed cuz of me (and inspo from a furry artist lol)

I used to have a fursona, but have seen de-sona'd the character. They are a monster, cat, bird fusion. The character is still very important to me because I'm very proud of the design.

My sona's a dragon! Her name is Catalyst and instead of breathing out an element, she stores the bones from prey in a pouch and is able to launch it like a cannonball with a powerful blast.
