@rosey77
Pets, to me, are not worth it.
Cats are gross.
Cats smell and I'm not even talking about their litter box.
And you can't bath them, because most absolutely hate the water.
They scratch everything and have sharp teeth.
De-clawing is almost necessary unless you like being scratched up as well.
They are lazy and just take up space.
They are expensive, unless you adopt.
And buying them cat nip for the rest of their life (assuming it lives only to age 10) will cost about $5000.
Just for food, not the things the kitten destroys.
They also get ugly when they get older.
And lazier.
I'm allergic to them as well, if I was your dad I would not budge.
Cats are cute to visit and snuggle...
But I will never own one of my own.

And this is not just because I'm allergic...
They only make me itchy.
I honestly just dislike cats.

I don't think that was what @rosey77 was looking for. She wanted advice, not opinions on cats.

@planetasteroid
What?(x
I'm just saying.
I went through a lot of trouble to get a pet.
Pets are high maintenance, and I have school and such.
And I regret it.
Its simply not worth sweating over ):

@rosey77
Your brother has a fear of cats? o-o

For your brother. I suggest a bunch of cat plushies, and those like real "fake" cat dolls to get over his fear

and for your parents just show them you are responsible to have a pet in the house~

Also, ask them if you can adopt one instead! I hate the idea of buying an animal. There are so many lovely pets in a shelter that deserves a loving home.

@toy
...then why did you list everything you hate about cats?

Deleted • 22 October 2011 at 5:52 PM

@Rosey77 I kept trying to get a dog as well. But I didn't want to learn how to ride a motorbike and my mum said if I learn we can get one.

My sister was aloud to get a dog if she runs the marathon with me she can get one.

We got two named Lily and Jasper and it cost $1200 each! Because of my dads asthma we had to get a non-shedding dog.

Hmm... Tell them that what will it take me to get a cat? I really want one. Don't say I really want a pet otherwise they might give you a fish.

I really dislike cats as well. I am also very allergic to them, but that doesn't affect my non-affection toward cats XD

@cqpkytty
I was just saying it's not worth sweating over..
I wasn't trying to be mean or anything.
I don't hate cats, I just wouldn't ever go through the trouble to have one.
And if your allergic or afraid of cats,
That's serious and I wouldn't ever risk it.

You didn't have to list every reason why you hated cats. 😋

@jane LOL, I'm not sure cat plushies are going to work. 😋

@toy Um, like other people said, that was not what I was looking for. I know pets are a lot of work. Do you know how much research I've done on them? And I cat sit. A lot. I got over $100 this summer. Please don't try to convince me not to get a cat? :/

@rosey77 I have to agree with toy on this one. I know your parents dislike dogs, but cats are just, well almost all I have met are mean with very few exceptions.

Try a bunny? Or a bird. They are great pets, intelligent and kind. Birds even more so than bunnies.

sometimes, pets are seriousy annoying you know...

how about a hamster? I mean, if your brother is scared of cats, you can't do anything about it... (most of the time)

Yeah I was completely ignored up there but it doesn't bug me.

All I was doing was stating my opinion.
I'm sorry for saying my thoughts..
Cats, dogs, and ferrets need LOTS and LOTS of love and attention.
Most kids can't do that because of school and such..

Why exactly is your brother afraid? Unortunately, Fears aren't easily overcome. Most take time, I think. I have no advice on cats. I might be alergic, my parents aren't risking it, and I don't like them too much. But I do love pets.

@toy

That kind of upset me :/
My cats are sweet hearts, and only smell when the litter isn't changed, and they're pretty clean
I'm 100% against declawing. It's unnecessary and extremely painful
They do not get ugly as they get older. My cats are 10 and adorable, and have the most gorgeous eyes.
You don't have to buy cat nip, and a simple toy that can keep them entertained for hours is a flashlight, something almost everyone should have anyways.

But that is my opinion
And comes from a girl with 5 birds, 2 cats, 2 dogs, 1 rabbit, and 1 turtle.

As for the money thing, if you know you can't afford an animal don't get one. If you can't afford vet bills/simple toys; don't get one.

As I tell anyone, it's not the animal that's the problem; it's the owner.

Also, I'd advise against large birds as they have many mental problems if not cared for properly. My cockatoo, Cindy, was abused and is a basket case.

I'd say get something like a bunny, you can potty train it like a cat and it can wonder around your house.

@cafe

Agreed!!! Lol I uses to have 3 cats (sadface), a bird, a dog, 2 horses, a bunch of tropical fish, and 3 goldfish. 😊 I have also had several lizards. 😊

I so agree about birds! They are lovely animals, but they are crazy little buggers. My little guy is so moody sometimes, and so possessive of me. He is like a guard bird. Birds aren't for everyone they are super social and loud even the little ones. Plus they don't do well with negligence, not that any animal does but birds just kinda lose it mentally.

I would suggest like a rabbit or rat, but again any animal will need daily socialization to be happy. So what ever you want. Cats are lovely! Males are in general more social, though their are always outliers.

Oh and if you do get any pet ADOPT!! Check with your local shelter first before you go to a petstore.

I'd start off with the cute and harmless then. I mean, just looking at them. And it will take time. A lot. And you'll probably need to do lot of research on it again, find the best type/breed, etc.

I used to really dislike cats, but then we adopted a kitten that somebody couldn't look after, and ever since then I absolutely loved them. ❤ī¸ We have 3 now, all with their different personalities, and couldn't imagine not having them.

They don't smell and are very clean, and have a million cheap toys that they just love completely. Yes, they're lazy, but that's what's so great, you can just leave them on their own asleep and they are perfectly content with that. 😊

Oh, and one of ours really LOVES water. We have this little watering can we use to water the plants in the house, and she's constantly trying to stick her head in the stream of water when we use it. XD Really, really odd cat.

You said the topic's closed, but that's just my opinion based on all this "I love cats, I hate cats" conversation that's been going on here. 😋 Cats are great pets if you know what you're doing with them, and can look after them well enough. ^^

@toy I have 2 cats and one is struggling with weight. I take care of them and change their litter TWICE A DAY! They don't smell and my aunt and uncle have a twelve year old tabby who is THE CUTEST THING EVER!!! My cats do not use their claws intentionally and they are only one year olds! I have never declawed one of my cats because I think it is a waste of money and the cats comfort. As long as you have scratching posts around the furniture, the cats will not scratch! The best breed should be chosen by you but it should be a melo, and SNUGGLY cat. Good Luck!!!

@cafe I see, thanks. Also, your cat is sooo fluffy *o*
and my friend nenielsen has a lot of animals too (see her side account, it lists them)

@nkiay Two horses? 😱 Wow. Also, thanks for the tips. I'll adopt from a shelter 😊

@nighthowl I actually don't care much if I get fish, they would be okay. My parents say even they are too much work! *facepalm*

@meixiaotian Yeah, I should do more research.

@elluwah Aw, that's cute. o3o Yeah, I closed the topic because of that one person D:

@isablah Thanks.. 😊

Okay, so now the topic's closed so.. stop posting here? xD LOL

@rosey77

Hahah yeah, they get fed twice a day and take a lot of work but I love em, just got back from a ride.

Yay shelter! Even if its not a cat or do sometimes they have other animals. 😊 Adopting saves a life 😉
