Seriously.
I may lose like .0000001 lb a month with my stupid metabolism, but someone just saved my vision down there!

So
story
Every night for the past week I've been taking my dog in the basement with me so I can exercise on the bike and such (he's a big lovable bag of lard, he benefits from it too 😋).

Well anyway. I was trying to move the exercise bike as it was on a mountain of shoes and boxes and who knows what else. That seemed pretty dangerous to me! So I tried to move it, but a ladder was in the way, so I had to move that. Well, stupid me totally forgot about the light bulb right above my head and I pretty much shattered it with the ladder. As I was getting rained with glass, I felt a piece JUST BRUSH PAST MY EYE LIKE MY EYES WEREN'T EVEN CLOSED.
But somehow it missed. And all I have is like a little cut on my chest.
So there you have it. My already cruddy vision has been restored even though I had to cut my exercise session short because I don't want my dog wandering around down there with that glass, which flew everywhere. Will have to tend to that later.

@toy

It was. The whole time I'm like, "Oh, God, not my eye, not my eye." ...and it just missed.
It would have sucked if it didn't. Next to oral surgery, any medical procedure or injury involving my eye is my biggest fear.

Bahaha! That's a fantastic story. I mean, it's terrifying, but still fantastic. It made my day better, but not in a schadenfreude kinda way, if that makes any sense.

If you want to get really fit, I suggest you look into rowing. It tones pretty much every muscle in your body, all at once. I had to stop due to metabolism problems (hehe) but while I was on the team I was in ridiculous shape, it was awesome.

I hate moments like that. Eyes kinda freak me out too. DX

Eyes seem magical to me 😊

I mean, they're just a bunch of tiny molecules. How can molecules do anything? And yet they can somehow see things.

(Actually, the whole body seems magical to me 😋)

That's why I love biology.
Life is amazing.

Oh wow! 0.0 Lucky you! (No, I'm being serious, you're lucky not to have been cut!) Sounds scary!

@avelaingia
That too. How does a group of molecules think? 😋
Or tell other molecules what to do?

I mean, I know how it works. The brain sends signals to the body through the nerves etcetera etcetera.
But HOW does it happen? HOW can molecules do stuff?

@cqpkytty Watch out, I'm about one more of these questions away from turning into my bio textbook.

It's all about form and how it dictate function, basically. There's a whole cell signalling system, and other cells have active sites which receive the signals. It's ridiculously complex though, with all kinds of systems built in.

I would probably be happier to just call it magic and leave it at that. AP bio is painful.

@plookle
But I *know* there are complex systems and all that.
What I want to know is, HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?

HOW do cells even work? HOW is life possible? And I don't mean "because of systems" and all that. I mean, how does it happen? How can something living move on its own?

Oh, I definitely think the human body is beautiful. I'm quite a biology nerd myself. Just the idea of anything happening to my eyes makes me shudder, haha.

I wanna know how life works. 😋
And yet I don't want to be a biologist when I grow up xD

The eyes make me nervous because I have contacts and have accidentally fallen asleep with them in and not been able to open my eyes. I would've left right then and never exercised again.

@zafeyry
I have fallen asleep with contacts in too 😋
I can open my eyes afterwards, though.
But when I take my contacts out after sleeping with them, my eyes hurt. 😋
