There is a significant difference in appearance between the wild and cultivated types of the Enoki mushroom. Cultivated mushrooms have not been exposed to light, resulting in a white color, whereas wild mushrooms usually display a dark brown color. Cultivated mushrooms are grown in a carbon dioxide-rich environment to nurture the development of long thin stems, whereas wild mushrooms produce a much shorter and thicker stem.

A large, conspicuous mushroom, the Amanita is generally common and numerous where it grows, and is often found in groups of other mushrooms growing underneath trees. Amanita fruiting bodies emerge from the soil looking like white eggs. After emerging from the ground, the cap is covered with numerous small white to yellow pyramid-shaped warts. These are remnants of the universal veil, a membrane that encloses the entire mushroom when it is still very young.

Basidio puffballs grow in fields, gardens, and along roadsides, as well as in grassy clearings in woods. It is edible when young and the internal flesh is completely white, although care must be taken to avoid confusion with immature fruit bodies of poisonous Amanita species.

New year—new creatures. Creature Release Week begins today! Each day for the next week, we'll be releasing one brand-new species in the Cave for you to find and adopt. The final day of Creature Release Week is the 8th day, when all creatures are available from the Cave. Try and collect them all!
All creature stages will be revealed at the end of the week. Hatch them quicker to be the first to see what they look like! Cave attempts are increased to 25 per day but will return to the normal 10 attempts per day after the final (8th) day.
The Frango is an edible mushroom that grows in shelves that range from 5 to 25 centimeters wide. This fungus is most commonly found on the wounds of trees, mostly oak, although it can also be found on eucalyptus, yew, chestnut, willow, as well as conifers. Frango species are parasitic and produce brown rot in the host on which they grow.
