You Can Now Formally Link Your Mains & Sides

Formally Link Your Mains & Sides

There is a brand-new feature under Preferences—Main & Side Accounts—where you can formally declare and link your main and side accounts. Everything to do with linking your mains and sides are done directly from your main account and you should do this immediately. First, verify your identity via SMS to specify an account as a main account. Once you're verified as a main account, you can enter the username, password, and email credentials of your side accounts directly on the page, and link them instantly.

Since this is now a formalized feature of the site, we will no longer be accepting or acknowledging main and side account designations as they appear in your public profile text. This is no longer a valid way to verify your identity and who accounts belong to.

Why do you verify main accounts via SMS?

Email and IP address spoofing is relatively easy to do. Asking you to verify your main account via SMS is a way of ensuring that it's really you and that you're really a human (and not a bot).

What happens if I do not declare my main account and side accounts?

We understand that people will need some time to link their main and side accounts. In the next 3 to 6 months, Egg Cave's moderating team will become much less lenient toward accounts that are not formally declared as either a main or a side account. When suspicious activity occurs on accounts that are not declared as either a main or side, harsher and quicker penalties will be issued against these accounts.

More information can be found about main and side accounts in a new section of the Player Guide: Main & Side Accounts.

Earn CaveCash For Free: It's Coming

This feature of verifying your mains and sides is released in preparation for a brand-new feature at Egg Cave that'll be released in late summer. It will be an achievement-type system that will allow you to earn CaveCash without a direct buy from the site. In this achievements system, you will be rewarded for completing activites that you're probably already doing (like feeding and many other activities!).

Because this feature will allow players to earn CaveCash for free, it is vital that we have tools and controls to fight and combat illegitimate accounts, abuse, and fraud. Only main accounts verified by SMS will be able to access this new feature when it is released and accounts declared as sides will be unable to access this feature. Get ready!

Is verifying my identity via SMS required to play Egg Cave?

No, you do not have to verify your identity via SMS to continue playing Egg Cave. Egg Cave is free to play, without a phone number. It is not required at registration. Certain Egg Cave features that may be big targets for abuse and fraud may require identity verification via SMS to access in the future.

@heatherm19 Yes, each month will require re-verification on EggCave. 😊 I seen it mentioned either on page 2 or 3?

Just to make sure, do I still have to verify my account as my 'main' even though I have only one acc?

Orderedchaos • 9 May 2022, 9:13 PM

@lucas If you want to be able to participate in the free CC stuff that we have planed for the future then yes.

lucas • 9 May 2022, 10:10 PM

@Orderedchaos okay, thanks!

on other sites, 2FA is more of a means of protection to ensure your account/data is never hacked/stolen. this seems like the opposite?? like the site is incentivizing us to give up personal info. i know staff has already made their stance clear-

arcana • 11 May 2022, 4:33 AM

that it's only for security, etc, but i personally won't be verifying, because my phone is for private/personal stuff only, and it's not worth giving that info to this game for any reason. then again, i likely wouldn't participate in the new feature anyways, i'm not really active

I would suggest a sort of legacy program, that accounts that a couple of years or so older than this blog post don't need to verify to participate in free CC activities-

arcana • 11 May 2022, 4:34 AM

because the likelihood that they are bots is far lower, and the likelihood that they are longtime supporters is far higher.

ugh that post limit is killing me, sorry for the wall of posts

mastergemma • 11 May 2022, 10:48 AM

If someone does make a forum to discuss this please ping me! @arcana what EggCave is implementing is still similar to what other websites have. It'll be used to help users verify themselves if they forget passwords, etc. The only difference is that it will require...

...monthly verification as then this will be able to stop most phone number spoofing apps too since these sorts of things last for a free day or week of usage, unless users pay.

@mastergemma I don't believe I've seen an answer to my concern a few pages back, will there be a way to un-link a phone number (and link a new number, hopefully) if we lose access to the phone we verified with? Cell phones/numbers aren't necessarily a forever thing!

mastergemma • 11 May 2022, 10:42 PM

@heatherm19 thanks for letting me know that we missed a question. Someone will get back to you soon with an answer!

pouncessoftly • 12 May 2022, 6:18 PM

I do have two questions before linking and verifying my accounts. 1. Will the accounts be shown anywhere on our profiles? I don't mind 2 of my sides being shown, but the third is where I store eggs until I get the CC to freeze them. ...

pouncessoftly • 12 May 2022, 6:20 PM

and 2. The phone is not mine, but a family members. Will this matter? They do not play, and never will so the number won't be duplicated by another user.

I also have a question: I have been planning to change the E-mail on one of my side accts but haven't figured how to do it yet without losing 500+ pets. Will it be a problem if Ido change it as I linked the accts already.
