All of that sounds... perfect. I would absolutely join in with some form of art contest, and I love the idea of having a prompt to get our inspiration working. It'd definitely get us doing something new when we've run out of things to do on the main site. 😉 So yep! I love these ideas. ^^

@Goku I think in the case of a site like this, it isn't really entirely necessary to stop people from viewing your page completely. I think that yes, it should be an option, but this isn't a social networking site where personal information gets posted up; most people don't even use their real names...
