New Beginnings

Hope sat down, in her own nervous, twitchy way, watching what had been going on. She decided just to play with the gadgets she was provided, and started creating a device, based on that of Reyna's PENNI. Fishing out some screws and some pieces of metal, Hope went to work, doing what she did best. However, when she was finished, whatever she had made didn't seem to do too much in terms of usefulness, so she decided just to make it her robotic companion.

Is it ok for Hope to have a robotic companion? I think everyone else got similar companions, and Hope tends to get very lonely.

Reyna waited for Kumo to make the next move and as she did so, she became very wary of what might happen next. Reyna didn't normally challenge someone until she knew that she could beat this, 'I guess this is just a varying piece in the puzzle that's my life.' She thought to herself as she crouched down low as to avoid the orbs in the air.

"So, giving up yet?" She called to Kumo in a plastered cheerful voice as she daintily stuck her hand in the hair and waved at the girl.

Seal quickly pressed the rock again and the flames died down. "Phew!" she murmured as she went around and watched what the others were doing. She sat down next to a girl, Hope, and asked, "What are you doing?"

Hope turned to the girl who had suddenly sat next to her "Oh, well, I tried to mimic the capabilities of Reyna's PENNI device... but I haven't quite got it... so I just made this robotic companion," she answered, fixing up a screw here, and a bolt there, and adjusting some more pieces of metal. Scooping up the creation, she examined it thoroughly, before pressing a button. The robotic owl's eyes fluttered open, and gave a small hoot. "So, what's your name?" she asked the girl next to her.

Kumo narrowed her eyes, the shadows of a broken, fragmented smile playing along her lips. Luminous strands of silky clumps of web lounged in the air, lethargically drifting and expanding like the slow, steady breathing of an animal.

Kumo clung to the slick metal bars, her knuckles turning white as she struggled to get a hold of herself. Reyna navigated easily throughout the gravity-less room. It was as if her heavy boots were oppressing her balance, throwing her rag-doll like body in meaningless, skewed directions.

She knew that blasting her own seismic energy at Reyna would prove useless, like the disheveled blobs that hung suspended in the stadium. The energy retracted towards Kumo in snakes of lucid webs.

Reyna smiled, as she watched Kumo struggle around the strands of energy like a fly caught in her own web. Suddenly a blast, ran through the stadium, although it seemed only she heard it. Reyna couldn't tell if it was Kumo or not, or if Kumo had felt the blast either. The air around where the two girls were having their mock fight was shimmering and trapping them inside. Neither one of them could get out, even if they tried.

Her force field of gravity collapsed on her, as easily as soil without the support of the earth underneath it, the blasts of seismic energy fell down and smashed against her body. Her body flew against the glittering field but relfected against it and she crashed down to the ground. Kumo seemed also to be affected, as she fell onto the floor. Reyna could only lift her head and observe her but Kumo didn't appear as badly hurt.

Hope's eyes were never off the owl, fluttering to and thro. "It's... I'm not too sure... I think it's a boy..." Her eyes wandered for a bit, and met Seal's. "Any ideas? For a male robotic owl?" She quizzically eyed the battle between Reyna and Kumo... at least, from her angle, it looked like a battle. "Wonder what they're doing..." she muttered to herself.

Kumo's body dropped to the floor, her seismic energy useless tangles of silk. She shook her head, struggling to her feet. Black strands of hair askew and obscuring her view, like a curtain, determined to hide the view, spread over her face.

"Are you okay, Reyna?"

Kumo spoke up, walking quietly over with a slight limp to Reyna. Her legs begged for mercy and her head pounded, the pulse reverberating and echoing loudly.

Reyna lifted her head slightly in response to Kumo's question, she tried to groan nonchalantly but it came out a strangled whimper, "Yeah, totally," she managed to get out, her words seemed crumbled, like the sad remnants of a C00KIE that only promised a less than meager meal for a starving child.

"Whatever you did there, you've certainly got skill." She attempted to sit up, but collapsed back on the floor. Reyna finally contented herself to lay on the ground with her arms across her chest, trying to appear as impassive as anyone could be while their head trobbed and every essence of their being lamented its existence.

Noticing two collapsed people, Hope got up, without a word, and started to approach them, with the owl trailing behind her. When she got there, Hope stood and stared quizzically at the two collapsed, and - she kept berating herself for this in the future - picked up a fallen rod, and poked the two of them. "Are... you alright?"

Reyna lifted her head at Hope's words and she set it back down with a stifled moan, "No darling, I don't think I quite am..." She trailed off as she looked into the girl's eyes hopelessly. Reyna shook off the desperation that was clinging to her now like a parasite and she smiled bravely.

"Oh, was it a fight?" Hope asked Reyna. She shook off the feeling of hopelessness Reyna seemed to give off, despite the brave look in her eyes. "Maybe I can fix it... or at least give you something to hold on.... Hey, Owl, can you tell me what you think is wrong?" The owl hooted, paused thoughtfully, and then answered "Maybe she's worn out?"

Reyna sat up, even though she knew that she would soon fall back down, like her own power was working against her, "Yeah, I'm fine, it was supposed to be a mock fight, I don't know what happened." She paused and looked at Kumo @pegasasu and asked, "Did you do the forcefield thing? I don't know what that was, but I just slammed into something and now..."

Kumo shook her head in frustration, wondering where the mysterious force had come from. She backed away from Reyna in short, hesitant steps. She didn't like being too close, the air seemed to submerge her, enveloping her in invisible strands that threatened to tighten around her exposed throat.

Seal walked up to the Reyna, Kumo, and Hope. "Are you guys ok?" she asked, tilting her head slightly. She took out a bouncy ball from her pocket and started to softly bouncing it up and down.

Reyna lifted up her head and then smiled bravely at Seal as she walked. THen she stood up and brushed off the dirt in her burgendy skirt. Reyna straightened the butterfly on her hat and it fluttered worriedly.
"Yeah, now I am, I think I'm over it now." She turned towards Kumo once now, and asked, "Do you know what that is?"

Kumo shook her head, a newly found determination to solve the mystery that arose. Confidence filled her mind to the brim, but her expression remained unchanged. Kumo strayed away from the group slowly, leaning against a wall.

All traces of the force field were gone as they started calling people up with their partners to get their machines that they would be travelling on. Reyna felt a stab of excitement grip her as she saw the machines. Walking to Kumo she said, "Since I don't know who made the force field I'll give you the credit, you wanna be my partner?"

Kumo nodded at Reyna, a bit relived to have a partner without having to ask. She was a bit confused still at the force field, but she wanted to do something like that. Her grandmother always said that her powers would expand into new techniques, but still she found none. Those gadgets were working quite well, but the other was still unknown to Kumo. What did it do? Was that the cause of the forcefield?

Hope looked shyly at Seal "Do you want to be partners? I don't see anyone else who could be..." Her voice dropped lower, as her natural shyness began to take over. Even though she wanted to take it further, she told herself not to -won't it just make it worse?

Reyna smiled half-heartedly at the girl, her energy still partially drained from her previous trials. She couldn't bring herself to be as cheerful as the bounce of her curls. Reyna sighed dejectedly once and then shook of her despair, like how a blade of grass shakes of the dew that accumlated during the night to be replaced by day. 😉

"Okay, that's nice." She stated simply.
