Agree! I've never had that problem, but it makes sense, and it would be a simple fix. I don't see any reason why this couldn't happen (same for the forums).

This would be VERY nice. What I usually do is type up my profile on Google Docs, which lets me see the number of characters in the word count. That way I won't go over, and if I do by accident I still have all my writing and can just edit it down. This has worked very well for me.
