Every second. Every minute. Every hour. Every day. You live your life in fear of Midnight. At Midnight they come. Every Midnight they take someone away to their Lair. Every Midnight, the Screemers come.
It's Midnight. You hear a thump downstairs. You know they've come for you. You have two choices, to stay and fight or flee. You jump out the window into the cold, silent night.

We can start now.😋

Sarah rushed through the door quickly, trying to escape the pounding rain. The shack she had built shuddered as a strong wind blew. The drip in the roof leaked on to her head and she looked up at the small hole, annoyed.
"Great." She muttered. Another thing to fix. Tasha barked and shook her coat, spraying Sarah and the basket she was carrying.
"Tasha!" Sarah cried out, exasperated. She walked over to her small table and set the basket on it.
"It took me hours to gather all that fruit!" She scolded the wet dog.
But Tasha was paying no attention. The large husky had turned toward the door and was growling. Sarah glanced at the clock. It was only 10: 30. There was no way possible they could be here yet!

Jo stood silently at a corner in an alley, eyeing someone's home. The pouring rain made it hard for anyone to see her. It was 11:59 when she heard a loud thump in a house behind her. Twisting around to look, she saw at least five Screemers gathering at someone's door. She pulled a bow and arrow out of her backpack and shot one of them, watching it drop to the ground. The others saw her and started on her. Jo ran into the street, looking for a place to hide. Soon, she found a small cave-like hole in the wall of a building. Squeezing inside, she watched the Screemers' feet run past.

The door flew open and Sarah lunged for her emergency backpack. A figure stood in the doorway. Sarah cursed her stupidity. She had forgotten to fix the clock. The Screemer pushed into her shack.
"Hey!" She cried. "You'll get my rug wet!"
The Screemer took no notice and advanced toward her slowly. He was young, around her age, with black hair that was sopping wet. He wore the Screemer suit, black pants and a dark gray shirt with a hand imprinted in red on it. He shuffled closer and reached for Sarah.
She easily ducked and hit him in the back of his knees. His legs buckled and he crumpled onto the floor.

OCC:
Screemers are people who were captured and taken to the Lair. They are slow and clumsy, but strong.

Name: Alec
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Looks: Scraggly dark brown hair, hazel eyes. Often has slight beard stubble (forgets to shave). Dark circles under eyes from sleep deprivation. About 6'1" in height, average build. Wearing denim jeans, brown athletic boots, long-sleeved dark blue shirt, black coat.
Personality: Overprotective of those around him. Dislikes small talk but is very social, and often feels lonely in the current world. Vicious toward anything perceived as a threat to him or those around him (such as Screemers). Prideful. Often irritable due to lack of sleep.
Background: Abandoned his house at age thirteen. Three years later, he and another survivor took ownership of an empty store, boarding up all entrances other than the front door and making it livable. They took in children who had lost their parents to the Screemers. His partner was dragged away that same year, but the establishment remained, and he takes responsibility for the five or so kids that live there now.
Other: Sits watch by the entrance every night until three, but wakes up at dawn with the others. Doesn't sleep nearly enough.

It was nighttime. Jasper's favourite time of the day. He loved the darkness and the cold. Although it was raining, the old house doesn't have any leaks. He loved to be alone. Jasper had lived by himself for a long time.
Usuallly, he felt safe in the house. Now, he feared midnight everyday for some reason. Of course, there were occasional creaks and groans from the old house, but he knew that people were missing a few days ago for some unknown reason.' The possibilities of me going missing was small. Nobody would look in an abandoned house' Jasper assured himself. He wasn't completely convinced.
It was midnight. Jasper didn't sleep. He was almost nocturnal. Sleeping during the day, and awake in the night, lurking outside in the forest or something.
As far as he's concerned, the house was only for shelter in the wintertime, or when it gets really cold.

He didn't stay down for long. Growling he turned around, anger in his eyes. He reached for Sarah and latched onto her ankle, refusing to let go. Sarah shrieked and tumbled onto the soaked rug. The Screemer towered over her and bent over to pick her up. Tasha bowled him over at the last second and Sarah scrambled to her feet. She grabbed a frying pan from the counter and banged him on the head. He slumped forward, silent.
Sarah stood there, panting for only a few moments.
"Thanks Tasha." She praised the dog.
She grabbed her emergency backpack, the basket of fruit and a jacket before rushing off into the wet night for help.

Jo heard feet slapping on the wet street. She squeezed tighter into her hole. As they ran past, she saw that they weren't Screemer feet, they belonged to a normal human. She pulled herself out of the hole and looked around. A teenage girl carrying a basket and dog ran down the road. Jo sprinted up. "Wait!" She whispered.

Sarah whipped around and backed away, staring at the girl who had stopped her. Tasha crept forward toward her, but didn't growl or bark.
"Yes?" Sarah asked, her voice still shaking from her close encounter.

Silic shivered. 'Last night I'll see the face of earth again.' She thought, closing her eyes, laying on her bed. She waited for her body heat to warm it up, but nothing happened. The bed stayed cold, just as she night breeze blew through the curtain. Thumps could be heard from downstairs. 11:59 'Almost midnight..' She thought.

Thudding sounds outside near midnight were not a rarity. Banging on the door, even, was a usual occurrence. But screams and voices just outside the door--that was odd. Rising warily from his chair, Alec unlocked all but the top bolt of the door, and peered out into the night. Raindrops immediately struck his face, but he blinked through them to find two girls and a dog standing in the middle of the street. A block away, the Screemers were advancing, and in no small numbers. Hastily, he closed the door, undid the bolt, and stepped halfway out into the street. "Get inside," he called out to them, hair and coat now damp. The crowbar in his hand was fully visible from where he stood and shone dully in the dim light, but hopefully they'd be able to identify the greater threat. "It's not safe out here."

Sarah opened her mouth to respond, but a door opened behind them. Sarah saw a tall boy open the for and waved them inside. She looked around and for the first time, saw how many Screemers there were.
With a little hesitation, she stepped through the doorway with Tasha at her heels.

Jo followed the girl into the house. She had lots of weapons, and she kept a dagger on her belt just in case the home was a trap.

Alec stepped aside as the two girls entered the house, mentally cringing as the dog padded in behind the first one. By the time the second girl was safely inside, the Screemers were nearly at their heels. Without hesitation, he stepped outside the threshold, grabbed the handle with his free hand, and lashed the crowbar at the head of the first. Before its body had time to hit the ground, he slammed the door, locking and bolting it. After a short pause, he turned around to face the girls. "I'll get you some towels," he murmured, walking toward the hall. "Try not to be too loud; some people are sleeping in the back."

The front room was nearly bare. The walls had once been off-white, but the paint was now peeling, casting flakes onto the wooden floor. A radio hummed dully from the corner, nearly drowned out by the rain and the pounding of the Screemers outside.

Tasha made herself at home, shaking her fur out, spraying little droplets everywhere. Sarah looked around and shivered, not from the cold and wet, but from realizing how close the Screemers had come.
She turned to the other girl.
"Hello..." She said trailing off, not knowing what to say next.

Preceded by a creak from the hallway closet door, Alec returned with a short stack of towels in his arms. Still visibly tense from the Screemer encounter, he handed one to Jo and two to Tasha, frowning at the small puddle surrounding her dog. He considered, for a moment, lecturing them on the dangers of wandering outside at midnight. What were they expecting to happen? Frown deepening slightly, he decided against it. Whatever had happened, at least the one girl looked shaken. The matter could wait until later. "Could I get you anything?" he offered, swiping wet hair back from his forehead. "Tea? I think we might have some hot chocolate left . . . "

@sakura2596 A little underdramatic? X3
@rawrcookies08

"Right," he said, nodding once at Jo. The Screemers outside grew louder, completely drowning out the radio; something was happening. As Alec drew nearer to the door, a series of knocks issued from behind the wood. He rushed now, puzzled to the peephole. Screemers were not known to knock. Glancing through, he saw another girl outside the door, this one much younger. Even through the peephole, he could see the Screemers closing in on her, regrouping; they had dragged the one he'd felled away, and he presumed they were coming back. Growling a profanity, he quickly undid the locks, reached to grab the girl by the arm, and attempted to pull her inside.
