I understand one
Art about looking at what some people search sometimes, if it's like really nasty, inappropriate, or something terrorist related. But the underlying message is the government's pushing their limits to how far they can take away our rights. Did you know they recently passed a bill saying that if they find you a threat to the government, they can withold you for however long they want without access to a lawyer or trial? They're walking all over the Bill of Rights!

I don't like it. A lot of stuff should be free, and some shouldn't. But overall, I say no to SOPA/PIPA. :/

@iridescent

Yeah, that's not really recent though, Bush signed the Patriot act in 2001. Obama just recently said he disagreed with it, before he signed an updated one.

I'm not from the US but this can affect everyone.
The English Wikipedia blacked out for 24 hours in protest and other major sites are against it.

Been signing petitions since early November.

I'm not so sure. If you read the actual bill its not that bad. It just holds sites responsible for what they put on their sites.

I signed the petition earlier today.
At first I didn't know what SOPA meant.
Felt awkward when I read it because the first four letter of my name is Sopa.

SOPA shall go down!

Both bills are unconstitutional but will not be ruled as such. It's rather unfortunate, which way this country is going.

I would sign the petitions, but you can never trust how your name and email will be used, despite the disclaimers on the websites in question. Online petitions do not seem to garner as much support or influence as other petitions, either.

@nkiay "Worded as it is, if your website used a song segment or created a screenshot GIF from a TV show or movie, which may be perfectly legal under Fair Use provisions of existing copyright laws, then you may be subject to association given SOPA restrictions. Potentially, the charged website could be sued, fined, face criminal penalties, or have its? site removed entirely contingent upon not meeting SOPA guidelines."

Not sure if this is entirely true, but it's taking it a bit far....

@nkiay

I don't know... If it wasn't so bad then why would Google and Wikipedia, two of the biggests sites, get involved? It must be pretty bad.

@icymuffin You are correct. Many of the backers of both bills pulled their support yesterday and neither bill has even been voted on.

^ True but it's no time to ease up on keeping the word alive. They could easily be sneaky and while most of us are not paying attention push again for it.

PS here's 3 people who support it. One of them helped WRITE them >.>
