"National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing on November 1. The goal is to write a 50,000 word, (approximately 175 page) novel by 11:59:59, November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. This approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly."

Nanowrimo in an event every November (there's also Camp Nano, taking place in the summer) where writers enter the month as people with dreams of writing a book and exit the month as novelists. The goal of Nano is to write a 50,000 word rough draft of a novel in one month. Many writers are tempted to give up partway through and never get around to finishing their novel. Nanowrimo, however, gives a deadline that encourages us to keep writing until that last word.

I've participated and won NaNoWriMo the past two years. I'm doing Camp NaNo in June this year, if not August (did both Camp NaNos last year, but that got way too tiring) ^^

I always participate! The past two years at least. XD

And have 'won' as it's called when you complete the 50,000 words! 😊

It's a great exercise!

I'm going to try both months. June will be a more serious, planned-out novel, while August will be more fun. (: I'm currently doing my outline for June. Last year I failed, epically. 😋

I fail so hard at NaNo. xD I always a) burn myself out, or b) run out of (non-existing) plot.

I had 12k words on day 3 of Camp NaNo last year and just burned out. It didn't help all 12k words were boring introduction.

I'm going Camp NaNo again this year though. Either picking up my novel from last year, or doing my drabble series or sci-fi/zombie novel.

I'd love to be Cabin mates when Camp NaNo comes around. 😊

Really? I wish people at my school knew about it. xD I was planning to tell my English teacher about it so maybe she would tell the class - I know there are some awesome writers in my grade. I made some Nano binder covers, so hopefully I'll find some fellow Nanoers or people who are interested in participating. ;D
