Meh. I refuse to read them because they're so popular. I'm stubborn. I only like Harry Potter cause I read the first three books right when they came out and no one knew they existed. XD
chamomile • 20 April 2012 at 3:24 PM
@april__ I read them before they were popular. I can't say I'm not stubborn, either. My favorite HP book is 'The Prisoner of Azkaban'
april__ • 20 April 2012 at 3:24 PM
@chamomilePerhaps if I had read them before they were popular, I may have liked them. But I won't give them a chance now. I'm weird. And ooh, my favourite is Order of the Phoenix and Chamber of Secrets.*cough* I'm not talking about HP in a HG thread....
chamomile • 20 April 2012 at 3:26 PM
@april__ XD Of course not! That would be outrageous.
ferrari25 • 20 April 2012 at 3:28 PM
@chamomileOne of the best series I have ever read!!!but I refuse to see the movie.
chamomile • 20 April 2012 at 3:29 PM
@ferrari25 Usually, the movies are kinda iffy. The books are always better, but that's my opinion. Although, Suzanne said she tried to steer towards the book and not change too much.

I read them in 2010, i waited for all the books to come out. It was a pain. I refuse to watch the movies because the actors arent my favorite and a movie about killing other children cant be the best. Now, i think Hunger Games is overrated.
ferrari25 • 20 April 2012 at 3:42 PM
@chamomileYea, but still I'm probable not going to see the movie and people said the same thing about the Percy Jackson movie and it was horrible and nothing like the books.
karamel • 21 April 2012 at 9:13 AM
@chamomile I love it.Both the movie and the book. However, I just wish the movie was exactly like the book </3 But that's too ambitious.
carter • 21 April 2012 at 2:15 PM
i Love them, i read the hunger games before the movie teasers and tralers and such.Somethings about the movie i wish they did more like the book but i guess they cant be the exact same :\
sweetangelbutterfly • 21 April 2012 at 2:55 PM
I like the hunger games, not because it's popular or anything like that. I just like the killing and the fight to the death and the crazy rich people dressed as clowns... just my sort of thing
sstwins • 21 April 2012 at 4:49 PM
@april__ Give them a chance! I read them before they were popular, but I'd read them now.Why are there so many people who don't read something because its popular!!!! Maybe its popular because its good!!!No offence intended. đ But really, try them!
april__ • 21 April 2012 at 4:56 PM
@sstwinsI refuse. Besides, the story line sounds stupid. I'd rather read somethin gbecause it intrigues me. Not because everyone else is doing it. I'm the person that refuses to follow the crowd. XD
dreamer • 21 April 2012 at 4:57 PM
I think about it the same way @April__ does.I've seen the movie, but I'm refusing to read the books because they're so popular. I'm not even going to give them a chance, all the people I know have either read all the books, or read one chapter and then threw the book across the room.
april__ • 21 April 2012 at 4:59 PM
@dreamerIt is silly.I know my cousin HATED the books. But the second they became popular. Loved them and gave them another shot. If it's not something I'd read before it's popular, it's not something I'll read period. I don't like the idea of the story line. I'll stick with my non popular books, lol! XD
dreamer • 21 April 2012 at 5:03 PM
@April__ I heard about the books about a year before they were popular, and they just seemed ridiculous. They just seem even worse now.My friends and I are the only people who haven't read the freaking books. My guess is that most of these people want to be in on something that has attention so maybe it'll rub off on them (I mean, there are some people who really do enjoy the story, but most people I know just want to be in on the hype). Not worth my time. Most of the people I see now, carrying around the book, have been carrying it like that for a while, very slowly reading it. I talked to some people and they said it wasn't very good.So that's what I'm gonna stick with. IT'S A FREE COUNTRY, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! X'DSorry. I rant a lot.
april__ • 21 April 2012 at 5:07 PM
@dreamerI agree! Completely. The idea always seemed silly and no way I'm going to think different now because they're 'popular.'
dreamer • 21 April 2012 at 5:11 PM
@April__ I considered it at one point...And I went around seeing everyone who read the books, wanting to see the movie (which I did), and I had wanted to start them. Now it's just starting to seem stupid all over again. I feel like a little "female dog" for changing my opinion like that, but I don't really care what anyone else has to say about it. DXPlus, I don't like reading stories where people get killed in such. I read books where people die, but not constantly. Books depress me very easily, so I like books with more action and less of a whole end-of-my-life, we're-living-in-a-boot-camp-of-a-world type. I like dystopia novels as much as the next guy ( I LOVE the trilogy "Matched"), but this is more extreme.
april__ • 21 April 2012 at 5:12 PM
@dreamerI honestly feel people dying constantly in the books is a bit much. AndI don't understand why such a young age group is reading about death so much. I mean, I know they know it exists but at 9,10,11 I wanted nothing to do with death. DX
dionaea • 21 April 2012 at 5:12 PM
@chamomileI never read them, and I don't think I ever will. I was considering to do so, but then I saw the movie trailer and found out what the books are actually about. I think the subject is just too depressing for me. If it were a manga I might consider it, since I can read 10+ volumes in a day and should be able to finish in one day, but as is I'm a slow reader and I don't feel like being depressed for extended periods of time. Other than that I think this hype has gone crazy, it's Twilight all over again.
april__ • 21 April 2012 at 5:16 PM
@dionaeaNothing to me will be as bad as Twilight.Sparkling vampires? As someone that is MAJORLY Into that kind of stuff I was appalled, disgusted and angry. Twilight is a PATHETIC love story. Bella is a clingy, desperate, need girl. And Edward is an overcontrolling stalker. XDBut I get what you're saying. The hype isn't needed. Just like Twilight.
dreamer • 21 April 2012 at 5:19 PM
@Dionaea Same here. I'm a fast reader though, although I'm not insanely fast. Most people I know can read a book in one or two days, which confuses me a bit. And I tend to get depressed very easily (I've cried several times in innocent books), so I don't think I could handle it.Honestly, despite a few spelling errors and a crapload of pages, I don't think Twilight is too bad. The movies are really an overkill, but I quite like the books. Plus, only 3 or 4 people die in the whole series. (I've read the first two books, and only one vampire was killed so far, and only one minor character died of a heart attack.) Even with that, I refused to read Twilight until the hype died down, and this is when I can enjoy it most. With the Hunger Games though, it seems like too much for me. I don't know. đ¸@April__ I'm 12, in the sixth grade, and kids LOVE books about killing people. X'D My sis is in the fifth grade, and kids even read the books at that age, which kinda scares me. O_o
april__ • 21 April 2012 at 5:26 PM
@dreamerYay for other fast readers. I read 1000 words a minute. =D Although I will NEVER EVER EVER enjoy that abomination called Twilight. XD And it disturbs me that people in the sixth grade love death books. I still don't 'love' them. But I do read them. XD I'm just not going to read a book series that kids half my age love. XD Makes me feel old.
cotton • 21 April 2012 at 5:32 PM
I LOOOOVE THEMMMM
dionaea • 21 April 2012 at 5:33 PM
@april__True, it doesn't get any worse than Twilight. But it was still the best thing to compare The Hunger Games to, even if they're not that bad, since the hypes for Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter were justified and Percy Jackson was never quite this big (not enough drama I guess DX)."Sparkling vampires" LOL XD I also agree with your previous comment (I just hadn't read it yet when I posted mine), I find it mindboggling that some kids love these morbid books so much O.o But it's the same here in the Netherlands, our most popular author of children's books is the one writing about incest, abuse, bullying and violence.... âšī¸@dreamerThat's probably true, hollywood tends to take not that amazing books, pick out the bad parts and magnify them, then throws in some stuff which doesn't even happen in the book and then they call it a movie true to the book. Seriously annoying =.=But I guess the thing which I don't like about Twilight is the angst. I don't like love triangles and drama (and birthing x.x).
april__ • 21 April 2012 at 5:37 PM
@dionaeaMeh. I prefer to refer to the Cullen's as fairy's. XD And it's crazy, really. âšī¸Though I do enjoy writing death stories. But hate reading them. And yes, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter were amazing. â¤ī¸ XD
asi • 21 April 2012 at 5:45 PM
I don't see why what other people think of books or movies should effect your enjoyment of them. Just sayin' đKids these days though ._. Always screaming about something >_< I think it's short attention spans... Or something
