Only it's not so much about me. It's just about ignorance in general.

So I was lurking around on this one site earlier. You all might have heard of it, it's the one where people tell stories about particularly crappy moments of their lives and put a particular acronym at the end of it, which I'd rather not put just in case it's against the rules.

Anyway, I stumble upon a weight one. I was thinking to myself, oh I wonder what lovely eQuacks posted on this one. And sure enough, there were many, many eQuacks it was sickening.

Basically, the story was about a girl whose boyfriend had broken up with her because he felt that she was getting too fat for her liking. It then ended with her explaining that she had broken a chair after sitting on it and that she was 130lbs.

What's that you hear? It's the eQuacks, ready to pull random numbers out of their rear ends and continue to distort the line between ideal weight and unrealistic!

Look, I know I'm overweight. I'm not in denial about it, I could stand to shed several more pounds. But that doesn't mean I'm not discouraged by all these numbers being thrown around by people who can't even bother to look at a BMI chart which, as you may know, can be unrealiable if you don't evaluate an individual carefully enough. Everybody is different. One person can look totally different from another person who just so happens to weigh the same amount at the same height.

I'd say go with the general rule: If you're concerned about your weight, watch what you eat and stay active, but don't worry yourself sick over it. Ask your doctor to help you determine your ideal weight and what you may need to do to get there if you're not there already. He or she will most likely know best, having your medical history available and all.

But it'd be really nice if we could stop pulling random numbers of the air and confusing everyone even more, thank you very much. It doesn't help anyone at either side of the weight spectrum.

It doesn't help that you have hormonal guys adding comments about how 110 lbs. is their limit.

I'm sorry, but this is the only place I can really rant about this without being accused of being a bitter fattie typing with Dorito stains on my fingers. =/

I'm not bitter that I'm fat and some people might not like it. I'm bitter that people don't know what the heck they're talking about.
