@Evolutary also, i just recently EV trained my Froslass with 255 sp.atk, 40 def, 40 sp.def and i am soon finished with 175 speed.
The problem is that, at level 50, my froslass has only around 140 sp.atk and 150 speed (i am not finished with speed EV training yet) is it normal for a froslass to have that low special attack? i thought the offensive stats (sp.atk and atk) where supposed to be very high since my metagross in pokemon white has around 180 atk!

Also, this froslass was EV trained in pokemon pearl and has a modest nature.

@treelar those are good movesets😊 I suggest you teach Rhyperior and Marowak (or Bone Rush, the one that hits 2-5 times but has horrible accuracy) earthquake, because you would be walled by steel types, and because earthquake is awesome xD

@phoenix Froslass' base Special Attack is only 80, while Metagross' has a base Attack of 135. 140 Special Attack is actually high for a base Special Attack of 80, so don't worry;)

@Evolutary actually not, Hammer arm knocks out steels as easy as a leaf cuts trough wind *tries it out* ergh, bad example -__- Yeah, earthquake is awesome but Bonemerang has the same base attack (it hits 2 times so 50 x 2) and it destroys substitutes while not hitting own friends in double battle 😊 and dragon rush takes care of everything not called steel types 😊

Metagross base attack is THAT MUCH???? thats far more than garchomp and almost any non legendary pokemon O_O (Except for Rampardos and slaking but rampardos other stats are terrible and slaking needs a skill swapper to be effective)

Sooo...if i EV train a glaceon right now, its special attack might go over 170 O_O

evolutary • 23 July 2011 at 9:54 PM

@treelar yup! Glaceon has 130 base Special Attack, 110 Defense and 95 Special Defense. It's a great tank but doesn't have much hp at 65.

Metagross has tons of attack xD oh and it has 130 Defense.

@Evolutary omg...i EV trained my glaceon 255 sp.atk and 255 speed. (too lazy to only train to 252) And he now has around 190 sp.atk at level 50 and 110 speed 😱 And he could also endure 3 earthquakes from a rampardos 😱 (tried him out in multi battle, battle tower in pearl)

I think i will start to EV train a regice or mamoswine right now 😱 and i am EV training a golett in pokemon white 😊

evolutary • 26 July 2011 at 3:31 AM

@treelar Regice has 200 Special Defence and 100 Defence and Special Attack! It has TONS of Special Defence! Mamoswine has 130 Attack and 110 HP, and resists both hail and sandstorm which is awesome xD

Good natures for Regice would be Bold, Calm or Modest, while the best nature for Mamoswine would be Adamant, or if you want speed (I love speed) go for Jolly, but it only has a base Speed of 80. Do whatever you want😊

I am going for modest for Regice and adamant for mamoswine.

I am also currently trying to train a ninetales, aerodactyle and gengar, these are my plans for them:

Ninetales: Energy ball, flamethrower, confuse ray, nasty plot.
Modest nature, 255 speed EV, 255 sp.atk EV. Item is sitrus berry.

Gengar: Hypnosis, shadow ball, sludge bomb, destiny bond.
Timid nature, 255 sp.atk. Speed EVs until gengar hits 160-170 speed at level 50. and the rest into sp.def.

Aerodactyle: Stone edge, earthquake, crunch, thunder fang.
Adamant nature. 255 atk. 255 speed.

What do you think about those plans? good? bad? terrible?

evolutary • 27 July 2011 at 2:54 AM

@treelar I think your plans are great!

Ninetales' Energy Ball covers all its weaknesses - rock, ground, water + nasty plot to increase Special Attack since it only has a base of 81, and a good moveset😊 Ninetales has 100 in Speed and Special Defence.

How much accuracy does Hypnosis have in B&W? In D&P it has 70 while in PL, it has 60. Gengar skills aren't effective against steel types, but you have Hypnosis to put it to sleep and kill it xD Base Speed is 110 and Special Attack is 130.

Aerodactyl has good moves, but I like to have both STAB moves for it, like Aerial Ace, but you don't really need it anyway. It has 130 base Speed and 105 Attack.

So yeah, they're good movesets and stats😸

@Evolutary I never knew Energy ball covers all of ninetales weaknesses 😱 i usually give it to all my fire pokemons just to cover the water weakness x3

And hypnosis has 60 accuracy in B&W i think 😊 but all three of these pokemons are for HG and pearl 😊 I don't really need to care about steel types since i got lots of other pokemon to cover them xP (and i usually play double battle) Giratina is an awesome pokemon to cover the steel type (aura sphere and earth power) but i sadly don't have an event arceus so i can't get a griseous orb in HG :l

Finished EV training Aerodactyl in speed! yay! and hmm...aerial ace is kinda good but STAB aerial ace isn't even as good as a non STABed earthquake :l

And is this a good movepool for a zapdos:

Discharge
Detect/Protect
Ice beam/Air cutter/Heat wave
Roost/Light screen/Reflect

What i need help in is if i should select air cutter for STAB, heat wave because it is awesome or ice beam for boltbeam combo (too lazy to try for hidden power ice so I'll just use action replay and teach him ice beam πŸ˜‹)
And if i should select roost, light screen or reflect, which one is better? and this zapdos is for my discharge team, thats why i don't have thunderbolt.

evolutary • 28 July 2011 at 4:13 AM

@treelar Ninetales can actually learn Energy Ball through egg movesπŸ˜ƒ

It really depends what you think is better. Ice beam to cover up ground, grass and dragon (not very effective to Discharge), or Air Cutter (super effective to bug, grass, fighting) for STAB (82.5% power) and hits both in double battle and has a high critical hit ratio. However, because of its 95 accuracy, pokemon can avoid the attack like Razor Leaf. Heat Wave hits both as well, but because of its accuracy, it gets avoided a lot and is super effective to grass, bug, steel and ice. Whatever you think is more important.

Roost heals 50% of your HP and removes your Flying classification for that turn, so if you did Roost, and in the same turn a pokemon used an ice move, instead of being super effective, it would be normally effective. It means you would be hit by Earthquake, though. Reflect and Light Screen blocks off 1/2 the damage taken if in single battle, but only 1/3 in double battle. They are both life savers, so if you have a team with lower Special Defense, go for Light Screen, or vice versa.

@evolutary i know xD but trough TM is easier as long as you have action replay πŸ˜‹

And hmm... i think i will go with dishcarge, ice beam, protect and reflect 😊

And i just finished EV training my Gengar and Aerodactyl! They are awesome in the battle arcade and battle castle!

What about this Shuckle:

Power trick
Rock slide
Protect
X-scissor

This set is extremely offensive! I know Shuckle is very fragile after power trick, so this is what i do:

First turn: power trick + trick room (from different pokemon)
Next turn: Shuckle hits first with an extreme attack!
After trick room stops: Use protect until trick room appears again or your power trick ends.

What about that? but this move set is only effective in double battle ☹️

evolutary • 29 July 2011 at 2:44 AM

@treelar personally, I don't really like Shuckle because it's too slow xD I didn't know Power Trick can end either! Lol😸

Very smart moveset! If you're in single battle or without a pokemon with Trick Room, you'd have to do a lot of predicting, and I absolutely fail at predicting😈

I've seen this type of Shuckle in the Battle Factory, but instead it has Swagger instead of Protect. I've never used it though.

There's one thing that I don't get: for example, if I use Psychic on a Shuckle that did not do Power Trick, I do less than half health. Now if it did Power Trick, I'd still do less than half for some reason (this was on Alakazam). But if it had 500 defenses and switched to 20, why didn't I do much damage?

@evolutary can't power trick end? if so, then i must have protect 😱
Yeah, it was in the battle factory that i liked it! but i lost against an aggron -__-

Well, it is because power trick only switches attack and defense, and not special attack and special defense 😸

I just come up with a few good movesets:

Hitmonlee: Blaze kick, stone edge, close combat, earthquake.

Hitmonchan: Sky uppercut, ice punch, thunder punch, bullet punch.

Kangaskhan: return, fake out, earthquake, sucker punch.

Feraligatr: Dragon dance, ice punch, dragon claw, waterfall.

Hitmontop: Drain punch, aerial ace, bullet punch, rock tomb.

Honchkrow: Night slash, drill peck, confuse ray, steel wing.

Skarmory: Steel wing, brave bird, stealth rock, spikes.

Starmie: Hydro pump, ice beam, thunderbolt, psychic.

One thing i need to know is:

Should i give Hitmonlee fake out or earthquake?
Should i give Starmie psychic, power gem, grass knot or flash cannon?
Should i give feraligatr dragon claw or something else?
How am i supposed to give hitmontop bullet punch? it is an egg move for Tyrogue but Tyrogue only appears as male pokemons and i can't breed a tyrogue unless i have a female one.

And are the rest of the movesets good? My plan with Skarmory is to switch it in against a physical attacker (skarmory has massive defense), let skarmory put out entry hazards and then it is swepping until skarmory faints!

@treelar OH!! No wonder Alakazam did no damage!

Wow, they're really good movesets!

Hitmonchan's Close Combat is stronger than a Sky Uppercut with Iron Fist, but Sky Uppercut has more PP and doesn't have the Defense down.

Hitmonlee's attacks cover basically everything without Earthquake, but Fake Out only works on the first turn (you can switch out though). I don't really like Fake Out though but your choice😊

Starmie: Grass Knot destroys those really annoying Water/Ground types (I have trouble killing them with no grass type). Power Gem is super effective against flying, bug, ice and fire (and can OHKO Bug/Flying, Fire/Flying and Ice/Flying) Fire and Flying you can kill with Hydro Pump and Boltbeam, Flash Cannon gets rid of rock and ice which you can use Hydro Pump for both. Psychic gets rid of fighting and poison types and I quite like the move, but Grass Knot and Power Gem work well too.

Feraligatr's Ice Punch is super effective against dragon already so you don't really need to teach it Dragon Claw. You could teach it Shadow Claw I guess? I'm not sure.

I think you can breed Tyrogue with a Ditto, and that's about it but I have no idea since I don't know much about breeding😈

@evolutary Hitmonchan's close combat may be stronger than sky-uppercut but sky-uppercut hits bouncing and flying opponents, and i have encountered bouncing lumineons and rapidashs a few times.

The annoying rock/steel pokemons are the only thing that gets in hitmonlee's way but close combat beats them better than earthquake. I could teach hitmonlee bulk-up instead of fake out and earthquake. Bulk-up is almost exactly like the very popular 'curse' except that the pokemons speed won't fall.

Hydro pump can be an awesome move if it wasn't for it's shaky accuracy. Thats why psychic will be Starmie's main move.
Ice beam is a must and grass knot is awesome since power gem's and flash cannon's type advantages are already covered up (except maybe ice but hydro pump terminates them)

I only selected dragon claw for feraligatr since the only type dragon claw has type disadvantage against is steel 😊 but i guess brick break works good too, or shadow claw... or crunch 😱
Ice punch will be kinda hard to learn since both dragon dance and ice punch are egg moves unless i teach Feraligatr ice punch trough HG :l

Yeah, i just read on bulbapedia that you need a ditto and hitmonchan/lee/top to get egg move 😱
But what about hitmontop's move set? there are LOTS of moves that are awesomely combined with technician 😱
Fake out can be used too, and isn't stone edge stronger than a technician powered rock tomb?

2,403 posts

evolutary • 30 July 2011 at 10:03 PM

@treelar You have to breed a female Feraligatr with a male Horsea. Horsea learns Dragon Dance at level 38 and on level 32 it evolves to Seadra (which learns DD at level 48).

A technician Rock Tomb becomes 75 power while Stone Edge is 100. Rock Tomb has the same accuracy and can lower the opponent's speed, can be used 10 times, however, Stone Edge has higher power with a high critical hit ratio. They're the same accuracy so your choice😊 If you like speed more, then go for Rock Tomb, if you want power, go with Stone Edge.

For Feraligatr, I worked out that with Dragon Claw, you'd only be stumped to Empoleon and Shedinja. Crunch and Shadow Claw, you'd be stumped to Water/Dark. With Brick Break, you'd be stumped to Water/Ghost, Psychic, Poison and Bug. If you don't really care about that, go for whatever skill has more supereffectives to, rather than how many not very effectives.

@Evolutary i could also teach dragonite both ice punch and dragon dance, and then breed with feraligatr so that the baby totodile learns both DD and ice punch!

Hmm...stone edge is alot better then ^^

Empoleon freaks me out with all of its resistances O_O
Shedinja is just simply useless, but empoleon is kinda common 😱

Water/Dark pokemons aren't very common either, only crawdant and sharpedo as i know 😱

There aren't any water/Ghost in generation IV which is where i am going to use this set, and water/Psychics aren't very common (only starmie scares me) Water/Poison are kinda rare too, and i only know of tentacruel :l
Water/Bug is simple, only surskit is that type and i know that no one will ever battle with a surskit (Surskit also has weak defense so a waterfall kills it too)

Well, i think i will go with shadow claw, since Starmie and Tentacruel are kinda common while shapedo and crawdant are rare ^^

Just finished EV training a starmie too (taught it bolt-beam, hydro pump and psychic)
And i taught my aerodactyl both u-turn and thunder fang instead of iron head and crunch 😊

And what EVs do you think would fit this moveset:

Parasect: Brave nature, focus sash item.
Energy ball, Flail, Spore, Protect.
He will be a pokemon for my trick room team 😊
I thought about 100 def, 152 sp.def, 156 sp.atk, 100 atk.
But i feel that is kinda weird :l

@treelar Sorry I couldn't reply yesterday, Egg Cave didn't load.

Okay, let's see... if you had that EV training, you'd have and an extra 25 Defense, 38 Special Defense, 39 Special Attack and 25 Attack. That's fine, but I like to spread it to 2 stats only, but your choice. Depends if you want Attack or Defense more. You could put most in Attack, since Flail would not be STABed, but Flail is pretty strong anyway with 1hp. Your choice really.

Also, what ability is it going to have? Effect Spore (which has a 30% chance of either Paralysis, Poison or Sleep) isn't quite as useful as Dry Skin since it only affects physical attacks. Dry Skin makes you take double damage from fire attacks (and therefore makes fire 8x effective) and zero damage from water attacks. You would (most of the time) die from a fire attack anyway, without holding a focus sash, so with Dry Skin, it doesn't really matter that you take 8x damage, because it would help with your Flail attack.

@evolutary no problem for late reply ^^

Yeah, thats the problem, i like to spread them into 2 stats myself unless a stat is already great.
Flail has awesome power and even better than a STABed energy ball! that is why special attack is more important since i will most likely use energy ball until Parasects HP is down to 4% or less.

Yeah, dry skin is awesome since effect spore might nulify the effect of spore (which is my main status attack on the team parasect is on) and parasect has LOTS of weaknesses so even if i didn't have dry skin parasect would have died from one hit of a flying or fire attack 😊 (or stone edge) that is why dry skin will work as a perfect lure attack, together with focus sash! So i think i will give parasect 255 sp.atk and 255 atk EVs 😊
And oh! Dry skin works great with my slowbro and slowkings brine in case an attack won't activate focus sash (i use spore with parasect and brine on slowbro/king, i continue to do so until parasect either dies from a surprise attack or has full HP)

EDIT: Realized that empoleon is resistant against shadow claw too, so i will go with Brick break for the Feraligatr!

And which pokemons can resist a combination of meteor mash, thunderpunch and earthquake? (the moves are for my metagross)

And what about these movesets:

Vanilluxe: Ice beam, flash cannon, uproar, water pulse.

Gen.V Fearow: U-turn, drill run, drill peck, steel wing.

Gen.IV Fearow: U-turn, drill peck, return, steel wing.

2,403 posts

evolutary • 4 August 2011 at 2:54 AM

@treelar Hmm, let me think... the pokemon that can resist Metagross' attacks are those Electric type pokemon with Levitate or have a ground resistance, like Zapdos and Rotom. Shedinja as well lol.

Vanilluxe's attacks are only not very effective to Empoleon (again) Shedinja (again) and Water/Ghost types. Other than that, your moveset is fine😊 If you taught it an electric move (instead of Uproar) you'd be stumped to the Water/Electrics.

Fearows' skills are not very effective against all pure Steel types and others like Dialga and Magnezone. Fearow has 90 base Attack and 100 base Speed, and is outclassed by Staraptor (which is the best of the birds excluding legendaries) which has 120 Attack. It is the only bird which can learn Close Combat which knocks off Steel types. Fearow has more Defense though. By the way, what's Drill Run?

@Evolutary If i switch thunderpunch against Zen-headbutt then? which pokemons can resist Metagross then?

Vanniluxe's movepool is extremely limited and can't be taught an electric move ☹️ I even need to breed a vanillite to get Water pulse! and both empoleon and jellicent are kinda common but can be defeated by other pokemons, and shedinja is too rare in real battles.

Yeah but i kinda like fearow a lot more than staraptor (will EV train a staraptor later though) and drill run is a ground move! Fearow is the only ground pokemon to learn it. So Fearow isn't walled by steels at all! And Fearow has cooler animations and design πŸ˜‹

EDIT: I just thought that i could teach the parasect seed bomb from HG tutor instead of energy ball, that way, i won't need to EV train in special attack! (Besides, parasect's special attack is WAY too low)

@treelar I thought you had the Action Reply code or something so you can hack Vanilluxe and teach it Thunderbolt xD

If you taught Metagross Zen Headbutt, the pokemon that can resist your attacks are Bronzong and Skarmory.

What are the stats for Drill Run? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Parasect has 95 Attack and only 60 Special Attack. Also, I just found out that with Dry Skin, fire damage is increased to 5x effective not 8x. I thought it doubled it but looks like I'm wrong xD

Male

treelar • 5 August 2011 at 12:54 PM

@Evolutary The action replay doesn't seem to work on pokemon black/White :l

Then zen headbutt is a better choice xD Since only Zapdos can REALLY wall metagross in generation IV (Rotom is too weak -__-)

Drill run has 80 base attack, 100 accuracy and increased chance of critical hit. It is a ground move that hits only 1 pokemon.

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Drill_Run

Hmm... yeah, but parasect will still get burned to death by dry skin xD and that is good since he will have focus sash, protect and flail!

And what pokemons can resist stone edge, blaze kick and close combat?i need a fourth attack for Hitmonlee 😊 i am thinking of either bulk up, poison jab or earthquake 😱
And i just thought of something, hitmonlee can learn hi-jump kick AND the ability reckless.
A reckless boosted hi-jump kick has the base attack of 120 (in D, P, HG, SS and Pt), the same attack power of close combat except that it won't lower defense!

And are these movesets good?:

Staraptor, U-turn, brave bird, close combat, Return/Quick attack

Hydreigon: Dark pulse, Dragon pulse, Flamethrower/Focus blast/Flash cannon, hyper voice/charge beam.

Should i teach Staraptor Return, quick attack or something else?
And should i teach Hydreigon flamethrower, focus blast, flash cannon, hyper voice or charge beam? I need 2 more moves for Hydreigon other than dragon pulse and dark pulse 😱

@Evolutary And what should i change in these movesets?:

Empoleon: Ice beam, hydro pump, flash cannon, thunderbolt.

Physical empoleon: Drill peck, waterfall, steel wing, shadow claw.

Gallade: Close combat, psycho cut, x-scissor, Hypnosis.

Honchkrow: Confuse ray, steel wing, drill peck/Brave bird, night slash.

Will these movesets cover most of the pokemon types? if not, what should i change? (I know empoleons special moveset will cover ALL type combinations excluding shedinja.) And Honchkrows moveset is kinda limited while Gallades is TOO wide 😱 (Gallade can also know leaf blade, stone edge, posion jab, earthquake and nights lash.)

@treelar Even with just those 3 attacks, Hitmonlee has no pokemon that can resist his attacks! You can either have Bulk Up or Earthquake (since they are both good). Poison Jab is only 2x effective to Grass, while 0.5x effective against Ground, Rock, Poison and Ghost and 0x effectiveness against Steel.

By the way, Fighting and Ground has the most supereffectives against the types. Fighting has 5 - Normal, Ice, Rock, Steel and Dark. Ground has 5 - Electric, Steel, Rock, Fire and Poison. Ice, Rock and Fire all have 4.

Staraptor's moveset is good! Only Rotom resists your attacks. Return would be STABed to 164.5 power or if you want to finish off weakened enemies, go for Quick Attack. You can also breed Fearow with Staraptor for Pursuit.

You could teach Hydreigon Focus Blast because then you would have no pokemon to resist your skills. The bad thing is, it has horrible accuracy. Charge Beam has really low power and does no damage if you're not STABed. It does have a 70% to raise your Special Attack though. Flamethrower and Flash Cannon cover up the same types as Focus Blast, except for Heatran. I don't really like Normal-typed skills unless you have STAB (like Charge Beam).

@phoenix Your Empoleons' have good movesets so you don't have to change anything. Your physical attacks would only be walled by Dialga and Empoleon. Dialga has 10 resistances and 1 immunity, while Empoleon has 8 and 1.

With just Gallade's 3 attacks, no pokemon resists your attacks (like Hitmonlee's) so you can choose whatever attack you want. In my opinion, the only good thing about Grass type is the ability to kill those annoying Ground/Water types. It has 7 not very effectives and 5 weaknesses.

X-Scissor has 6 not very effectives and has 3 supereffectives while Dark has 3 and 2. Both Dark and Bug can kill off Psychic, while Bug can kill off Grass (so no need for Poison Jab) and Dark (but you have CC), while Dark is supereffective against Ghost. Stone Edge and Earthquake are both good (even though Stone Edge has low accuracy).

Honchkrow is stumped to most Steel types. It also has a Speed drop when it evolves from Murkrow - 91 to 71. Honchkrow has 125 Attack and 105 Special Attack and can learn Nasty Plot. Though, its Special moves aren't much better.

(My post was too long so I had to split it into two)

@Evolutary Will teach Hitmonlee bulk-up then ^^ that way, i won't need to be afraid of not OHKOing opponents πŸ˜ƒ

But pursuit isn't so good, is it? And i battle mostly against CPU players and they NEVER retreat unless ALL of the pokemons attack's have x0 effectiveness against my pokemon.

Will teach hydreigon focus blast, dark pulse, dragon pulse, and i forgot to mention tri-attack! it has 20% chance of freezing, burning or paralyzing the opponent.

Dialga and empoleon are so strong X_x Dragon, steel and water has awesome resistances! (though, i only need to fear empoleon since the frontier battles won't use dialga)

Which of Gallade's 3 attacks cover up all weaknesses? 😱 if so, then hypnosis will work good with Gallade ^^

What about this moveset for honchkrow then:

Night slash, brave bird, confuse ray, brick break.

The only reason why i won't use earthquake is because this honchkrow is for double battles 😊

And thanks for the bump @darcy_vasquez 😊

EDIT: Should i train a rhyperior in 255 EV in defense or special defense?

@Darcy_vasquez It was in a good manner of course 😊 (Since if you didn't bump the board Evolutary wouldn't have been able to continue his post)

@Evolutary I just got interested in Pinsir and Heracross 😱

Pinsir's moveset is limited while Heracross' moveset has a theme.

Pinsir: Close combat, X-scissor, Stone edge, Earthquake.

Heracross: Reversal, endure, megahorn, shadow claw.
Shadow claw is for those pesky ghost pokemons ^^ and megahorn is my main move while not using endure or reversal 😊

And of course, some random movesets πŸ˜‹ :

Arcanine: Flare blitz, thunder fang, aerial ace, earthquake.

Drapion: Cross posion, night slash, ice fang, Swords dance/Agility.

If i select Agility, i won't need to EV train Drapion in speed 😊 While if i select Swords dance, he will be abel to sweep most things!

And i have a very untrained ferrothorn in pokemon white, but it defeats everyone so easy! When i combine it's ability with the item rocky helmet, Any attack that makes contact with ferrothorn makes the user lose more than 3/8 of their HP! Combined with power whip, iron head, aerial ace and swords dance, ferrothorn is almost unbeatable!

So should i keep this moveset when i EV train a new ferrothorn?:

Swords dance, power whip, aerial ace, iron head.

Or should i change anything? 😊

EDIT: Yet another set, for my trick room team this time!

Dusknoir: Trick room, shadow punch, ice punch, fling.
He will hold an iron ball ^^
