Pet Idea - Alternates

Hello everyone,

I was just thinking. How cool would it be if every creature (except maybe cash shop pets - though they could be randomly alternates too if people want them. It might actually make people buy more of them) could have an alternate coloring? They would be special versions of our existing creatures so getting one would be very rare and the only way we would know they are an alternate was when it hatched. The difference is their color. For example Floicols are mainly green with some other colors. Maybe the alternate Floicols are mainly blue.

It would make things more fun wouldn't it? xP

PS: Since some creatures are retired and no longer possible to get it would not apply to them.

Nah, too much work, these pets are way detailed. Compared to like neopets where they have simpler pets and can do that. I rather Ian work on other things, like Islands and new pets, rather than alternate colors.

or maybeh liek in pokemon there r shiny creatures, they culd do that 2 star pets, rather than them only having a little star? 😋

Star pets are good enough, I don't want things to be even more complicated to get my dream pet -_-

Its Like when you still a egg the color could be different? It doesn't affect the artist that much!

I *like* the idea, though I agree with balletninja.
Since most of the creatures are so detailed, it would take a lot of time to redraw all of them in different colors.

Maybe you could suggest instead, a new creatures that comes in different colors. Because then the artists could draw an outline of the creature, then just dump colors in then add the highlights / shadowing.

I like that idea a lot the artists would have less work because shiney in pokemon is pretty much just a simple color shift in Photoshop. Or the inverse of the colors, so it would be simple. Only the rarity could be closer to in pokemon so they would be really quite rare.

The gender thing could be awesome! Or for certain species the male and female could look different. For example the floicol is based off a humming bird, female hummingbirds are not as colorful as the males, and maybe eggcave could show that difference. Or something similar.

and it takes a long time to recolor creatures, even if you simply retain the opacity and make it a new color. because then some parts might look weird or something :/

I like this idea, and it's not hard work at all. You just stick the image in Photoshop and mess with the contrast/hue/saturation and you're done.

@gvantsa Hmm... problem is, even if you remove retired creatures from the equation, there are still a lot of pets. Plus, does that mean that every new Cave & CSP monthlies get this color change? And they'll become retired eventually, as will Cave creatures!

Not to mention that it's more work for the artists cause even if it doesn't take long, you have to make combos that are neat and not 'eyeburners'.

And what if somebody (or several) prefers the colors of the 'rare' recolor? Wouldn't that just complicate the search for it? Will the CC price be higher for just a different color? Or the opposite, what if the people don't like the recolor? Wouldn't it just be work wasted, and another version of a creature added to the already big pile of critters out there?

Plus, it isn't Egg Cave's 'style'. We already have Star creatures and tbh it doesn't change much, so recolors would just add complexity. It works for websites such as Neopets or Flight Rising who have very few creatures available to the huge amount EC has, and so it's fun to see different combos of colors, but Egg Cave just has way too many creatures, and this feature would just make things complicated.

It's a nice idea (and good intentions!) but EC isn't the place for different colored creatures, as it would, in my opinion, complicate things.
