@whispers I don't think its really rude, per say. A bit inane? Yes. Probably just some child who wants to have a large watcher list so they feel better about themselves.

It wasn't has much rude as it was insensitive. I agree they should not be asking that of you, especially if they aren't watching you.
I had someone comment on one of my paintings "Cute. Check out my profile, you wont regret it!" So I know how you feel.
