EDIT: To maybe better reinstate the issue, we all learn differently, but most or at least some schools only primarily use only one method of teaching for what ever the sad excuse may be, depraving some of us and making us feel dumb and not really caring about what we learn. ---END OF EDITTo give an example, I will discuss foreign language classes. It turns out that studying vocabulary, grammar rules, etc. of a foreign language is actually a very destructive method of learning a new language and only if your lucky, will you learn the language you are studying at all. And even though a better method of learning a foreign language exists(no I am not talking about the Rosetta stone) and has been used for a very long time now, most(if not all) of our schools do nothing to apply it. Why? Because of the unintelligent plans our government has laid out for the funding of the USA's education system thus far. Anyways, with all that being said, don't feel like a total dummy when you fail in some subject school. Everyone and anyone can learn, they just probably haven't been taught the right way and or in a way that they uniquely learn new information.
crescentfeather • 9 June 2012 at 11:16 AM
So what's the correct method? o.o
chibidarkness • 9 June 2012 at 11:23 AM
@siriI don't exactly agree with you. I find learning vocabulary and grammar rules of foreign language effective. And I'm not even American.
Deleted • 9 June 2012 at 11:27 AM
@crescentfeatherSupposedly it has to do with audio. The key is learning to speak a new language before trying to read or write it. @chibidarknessThen you are one of the lucky ones, as I previously stated. With me, I learned nothing with this method. Maybe a word or two or a phrase or two here and there, but nothing else really. We don't all learn the same way. Remember that.
chibidarkness • 9 June 2012 at 11:43 AM
@siriWell my point is, this method of learning is present in every country, or most countries that I've been to. True, no one have the same way of learning, but I still think calling the American Education system Failure is a big shot.
Deleted • 9 June 2012 at 11:55 AM
@chibidarknessEveryone on the planet learning it the hard way(or at least some on the planet) then lol. And a "big shot?" I am not sure what you mean by that exactly.
chibidarkness • 9 June 2012 at 11:59 AM
@siriYeah, kinda. But again, you're right, people learn differently. This method seems to be working for most people though.Your philosophy is alluring and rather just, just saying. And by big shot I mean that the American Education System is a big department, so saying it's lame is kind of a huge deal, know what I'm saying?
Deleted • 9 June 2012 at 12:07 PM
@chibidarknessWell, I hear it a lot by others in this country, and I agree. My own schooling was terrible. I barely learned anything during my schools years, and yet I graduated with honors? Something is very wrong with that picture, don't you think?
chibidarkness • 9 June 2012 at 12:09 PM
@siriIn a literal sense, yes. But maybe you're just underestimating yourself too. There could be endless theories of possibilities as to why you think that.
Deleted • 9 June 2012 at 12:21 PM
@chibidarknessUnderestimating myself? Not really. I know I have decent head on my shoulders and, if given the opportunity and taught properly, I know I could do anything I wanted to. But I often feel that the method of today jilted me on what I really could have been, instead of what I am now.
chibidarkness • 9 June 2012 at 12:23 PM
@siriHmm, just typing this statement makes you look awfully smart you know that? 😉
Deleted • 9 June 2012 at 12:30 PM
@chibidarknessUh, thank you ^^;
chibidarkness • 9 June 2012 at 12:36 PM
@siriLol don't mention it. But really, if you are unhappy with the system, I guess there's always possibility to transfer? Although socially it would really be awkward.
Deleted • 9 June 2012 at 12:44 PM
@chibidarknessOh, my school days have done ended. And the 2 years I spent in college sadly went down the drain as I had to withdraw, and now, thanks to debt, I can never go back and finish. Since those years of college were all spent on needless core classes, I don't know much more than an average American high schooler right now...in fact I think some of them know more than me at this point, since I haven't been in a school since 2008.
chibidarkness • 9 June 2012 at 1:30 PM
@siriOuch. Society is hard on you, it seems. But just because it is hard for you doesn't mean it is for others, so calling the whole American Education system is bad. :U
icymuffin • 9 June 2012 at 1:56 PM
Mm... I remember discussing this subject in classIsn't it stupid how adults look down on teachers, say that they have a bad job, and vow they will never be teachers, yet they say that the newer generations are getting more and more stupid while doing nothing to help us & take more money away from our education?My class watched this video in Psychology class yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDZFcDGpL4U This basically sums up a lot of the problems of school & learning but it also covers a bit moreIt's just that, if we get rid of this system, what will we replace it with? And how? Afterall, it's been around for so long and so many people use it. You'd have to reteach all the teachers as well.
cqpkytty • 9 June 2012 at 2:09 PM
@siriIn my French class, we learn written and spoken French at the same time. 😋
Deleted • 9 June 2012 at 2:50 PM
@chibidarknessWell, I am not the only one who suffers. I hear from so many not being able to pass for whatever reason. And it's not because they are all lazy. Some do try their best and still fail. And often failure is just met with more to do to make up for it instead of the reason for failing being addressed and appropriately assessed.@icymuffinAll very true and very good video that expresses all of that. It is a problem, a real problem. @cqpkyttyWould you believe my foreign language classes did not do that? And I made A's in that class! But no, I could not give you a full sentence fluently in the language I learned. That's bad.
cqpkytty • 9 June 2012 at 3:01 PM
@siriTu as une classe mauvais francais. Je n'ai pas une classe mauvais francais, j'ai une bonne classe francaises. 😊Peut-etre que tu vas-etre une meilleure classe de francais l'annee prochaine.😊
Deleted • 9 June 2012 at 3:24 PM
@cqpkyttylol You are not listening to me are you?
cqpkytty • 9 June 2012 at 3:27 PM
@siriHaha sorry 😋"You have a bad French class. I don't have a bad French class, I have a good French class. 😊 Maybe you'll have a better French class next year."
Deleted • 9 June 2012 at 3:33 PM
@cqpkyttylol Yeah, I know what it said thanks to the magic of google translate.But still, you haven't been listening to me on this topic. First off, what you just said says I had taken a French class when I never stated what language I studied. You also did not read everything I have already said, not just to you, but to others who commented here. And in one spot I said my school years are over. So, there will be no next year.
cqpkytty • 9 June 2012 at 3:38 PM
@siriSorry 😋And I know you didn't necessarily take a French class, I just don't know "language class" in French so I substituted "French class" xPxP
Deleted • 9 June 2012 at 3:39 PM
@cqpkyttylol you could have said I had a bad foreign language class instead.
cqpkytty • 9 June 2012 at 3:41 PM
@siriLike I just said, I don't know "language class", foreign or not, in French >.<
bunnyshadow • 9 June 2012 at 3:42 PM
@siri i watched a video that said something like thatvxD
Deleted • 9 June 2012 at 3:42 PM
@cqpkyttyOh. I misread that.@bunnyshadowlol ok
cqpkytty • 9 June 2012 at 3:43 PM
@siri😋
ice2505 • 9 June 2012 at 3:50 PM
@sirihmm....I kind of agree..but my school has a different problem, they spend the school funds on useless things...like ipod touch carts. (>.< seriously?) With smartboards in every room, all the teacher has to do is use the same slideshow every year to teach the kids..whats the job of a teacher? To teach. But they misuse smart boards. Mot only that..but every year in november they try to make a new levy pass..now WHERE is that money going???? >.< sorry for the rant.
Deleted • 9 June 2012 at 3:52 PM
@ice2505It's ok. It understandable to be angry. My school squandered their funds as well. It's amazing how terrible things have gotten.
