Should I buy a drawing tablet?

I was thinking about getting one, but I'm not quite sure if I want one. I practiced kind of using my DS to have a slight feel of how a tablet might be and I was kind of enjoying it and liking how things turned out.

So my question to all you artists out there, should I get a tablet and what kind? If I do plan on getting one I want it to be no more than 100$.

@cubexline I got one and I love it! It's really helpful if you work mainly digital. I got mine pretty cheap too, like $75-90. The brand Wacom is pretty good from what I can tell.

@darcylynn91: Where did you buy it from? I basically need something I can draw with like how these amazing eggcave creatures are.

@cubexline YES! If you think you'll actually USE it. All too often, people buy them thinking it'll be fun, but they never get used ☚ī¸ it's so sad! MAKE WITH THE ART.

@cubexline Buying a tablet won't make your art go poof and be amazing. You need to be good at drawing by hand, too.

@blackdeathkitty: I know, I just something like that, I know I'll never be perfect. I'm okay at hand drawing, but not epic.
@angelofgrotesque: I would, I learn best when I just play around with it till it works the way I want it to 😋 Joking, but a bit not.

Sorry if I made no sense of what I just said, Its midnight right now and my brain is in off mode, don't ask why I'm still up and doing this now lol.

@cubexline Yup c:

I'm sure you are a lot better than me, though >.<

I wish that there was an item that would pretty much be a virtual piece of paper DX Like a tablet, but you could see the screen on it.

It is 10:40 here, so I don't make much sense either, sorry!

@blackdeathkitty: like a touch screen computer where you can draw directly on the screen? I would die if I got one of those, it would make drawing maybe a bit easier, especially if you can use a pen on it 😋

Deleted • 20 June 2012 at 1:46 AM

@cubexline Hmmm... More like an iPad. But with more features and a pen.

@blackdeathkitty: I don't have a ipad nor have I ever seen one up close *un-cool*, but I kinda see what you mean now. That would be nice 😋

Deleted • 20 June 2012 at 1:49 AM

@cubexline A computer would be straight up, so it would be hard to draw one, but you know... Like a piece of paper 8D

Errrr... Sorry for repeated info.

@blackdeathkitty: True, it would be, but I think there is a kind of laptop that turns around and folds down so it is like a piece of paper in a way and they drew on it, but it could of been a dream 😋

Its okay, you kind of did, but you made a different point 😋

@cubexline

Ooooooh! That sounds cool 😋

I'm too tired to write a better comment -_-

@cubexline I'm not too sure were you would get one, as mine was a gift from my sister. There's always the internet, and maybe even walmart or places like best buy. I'd say your best bet would be to scope out prices on the internet first just to see what you want.

I think it would be a good investment. I have a Wacom Intous tablet. They're expensive but worth it. They are also kind of hard to get used to. I'm really bad at mine, but they are still really cool!😊
On ebay, the Intuos2 is around $100 right now

Thank you guys for the input 😊 I think I'll look into getting one somewhere 😋 I have around 100$(probably a lot less since I buy other small things and they add up >.>) But this would be cheaper than a phone and my mom might let me since I can't really get a phone lol.

@cubexline
I think you should get one, I find them quite cool. I haven't got one myself, however I have used one in school before and I found using them a whole lot better than the mouse to draw. Though, it is true that the picture made depends on the drawing skills the person possesses.

@blackdeathkitty
You can get those kind of laptops, as I'm using one now, but it depends on the pixels and if the touch is synced properly, to be able to draw decently.
You can also get Wacom drawing tablets on which you can draw on straight away, as if you were drawing on paper, but they are quite expensive and big.
Here's a link to the Wacom website:- http://uk.shop.wacom.eu/Products/Cintiq

@lily- Thats cool they are in your school. Anything is better than using a mouse, it makes everything shakey for me. The more people say "yes, get one" I'm urging for one right this second lol 😋

Lol, yeah, but there's only one and that's in the Art department.
I've also been wanting one for myself as well, but I don't think I'll be getting one soon. My dad's more interested in getting me a mobile 😋

I got a drawing tablet for I think $75-$90 at Best Buy 😊 It was one of the new Wacom Bamboo tablets and I love mine 😊 Although sometimes it gives me problems, it's still a great starter tablet 😊

@cubexline

A DS DOES NOT have the same feeling as a tablet, unfortunately. I've been drawing with my DS for a long time yet it still took me a long time to get used to a tablet. They don't have the same feeling since a DS is like a LCD tablet, not those Bamboo things. However, LCD tablets cost immensely and a 100$ tablet will need time getting used to.

Good luck, I guess. :0

@chibidarkness: Thank you for the input, since I do not own either of those kinds of tablets, I was only guessing it would be 😋

Edit: I wish I could rent one for about a month to see if I like it, though I doubt that's possible 😋 and no I don't know anyone with a tablet to ask to try theirs *is a loner*

@cubexline

Well I draw with a mouse (the tablet I mentionned was my friend's), but I think you can grab a cheap but still good second hand tablet online. But it's ok, really, the eggcave creatures are pixel art, they don't necessarily require a tablet. MS Paint+mouse works perfectly fine (I read your 2nd post in this thread). :>

@chibidarkness: I found a tablet at bestbuy for 100$, but I havent really look into it and see what it did and such. Ms paint is the paint thingy that comes with every computer right or is it that one you have to buy? I know they don't require a tablet, but anything is easier than a sticky mouse I have lol( its a old computer with a old mouse.)

@cubexline

Yep, MS Paint is the cheap thingy that comes with every Microsoft computer. HOWEVER, if you have enough patience, MS Paint can do wonders, ironically, thanks to its simplicity. MS Paint is pixel art (forget the new MS Paint with the stupid new brushes lol). I recommend asking around employees if you wanna know more about tablets, plus, I think WACOM tablets come with Photoshop Elements, though I'm not sure. Also, if your old sticky mouse is the problem, buy a new one? Mouses/Mice(?) are cheaper than tablets. But again, it's all up to you. My only tip is that once you have a tablet, practice, practice, practice ok? 😉

@cubexline You can always use www.pixlr.com 😋

@chibidarkness~ Agreed
At first, your artwork won't turn out all that great since drawing with the tablet is still rather different from drawing on paper. So yeah, drawing really well with a tablet takes practice! :]

{I do think there are tablets which show the "paper" on the screen you draw on. Much larger & much, much more expensive though I heard.}

@chibidarkness: I have photoshop 3(I think), but I'll give paint a try and see what happens. GIMP is also a good program I sometimes use 😊 I think you are right on that, the one I looked at did say it came with photoshop, but I'll go back and look at it. I know, but still, why are you trying to stop me? 😱 lol I'm kidding 😊 If I decide soon I'll have all the time in the world to practice, till Auguest 27th ish 😋

@blackdeathkitty: I'll try it and see what happens 😋

@icymuffin

Thanks, and those expensive tablets you are talking about are LCD tablets.
