sanibel_18 • 15 July 2012 at 5:08 PM
@linpug*stares at those words* nii sama and nee sama sounds like the same.xD*is writing all the words in a book* 😸
jlihere2 • 15 July 2012 at 5:12 PM
draw out the ees in nee-sama as though they are long aas so N-Ay-Sa-Ma, and Niisama as Ni-i-sa-ma... though technically Sama is the very respectful suffix, try just using Nee-san or Nii-san for more familiar. Ohayo means good morning not evening. Lol. Konbonwa is good evening.
linpug • 15 July 2012 at 5:16 PM
@jilihere2Oops. xD Typo. 😱
jlihere2 • 15 July 2012 at 5:19 PM
Imoto -younger sisterototo -younger brotheroto-san/oto-sama -fatheroka-san/oka-sama -motheryoroshiku -nice to meet youdomoyoroshiku -very nice to meet youkawaii -cutekowaii -scaryuh........ been awhile since i've practiced my bit of Japanese....Pronounciations:A - ahI - eeU - ooooE - ehO - ohN - nnnnnnsounds the same when you put a consonant in front only plus the consonant, so k + a =kah, s + o= sohEach character when writing two of the three alphabets is a combination of a consonant and a vowel like ka and so, except for a,i,u,e,o,and n.@linpug I figured it was just a typo. lolI know I know more than that but can't remember! I'm learning some Korean for forgetting what little Japanese I do know! ARG!!
ladybugheart • 15 July 2012 at 5:24 PM
@sanibel_18I don't know Japanese, but I'll try to dig up the words that I do know. xD Most of them I learned from songs. Please excuse any mistakes. >_>I have a Japanese audio thingy, I should probably listen to that again as well. ;PI'll probably be stalking this thread, as I want to learn too.Lie = UsoMystery = FushigiMiracle = KisekiProgram = PuroguramuRobot = RobottoHeart = KokoroSky = SoraWish = NegauNow = ImaThank you = ArigatouVoice = UtauClap = PonLight = RaitoMoon = TsukiDeath = ShiFear = KyofuSnow = YukiI could go on, but I have to go soon. 😋
jlihere2 • 15 July 2012 at 5:26 PM
@ladybugheartFushigi is Mystery? whoops! I thought it meant play!
ladybugheart • 15 July 2012 at 5:36 PM
@jilihere2Hmm, I looked up play and apparently the word for it is "asobu" or something like that. It may depend on how it's used, though.
jlihere2 • 15 July 2012 at 5:49 PM
@ladybugheartyea. I was just guessing based off some title I saw so I wasn't sure anyways! lol.@anibel_181 = ichi2 = ni3 = san4 = yan5 = go6 = roku? i think7 = nana8 = hachi9 = kyu?Doitashimashite (doh-ee-ta-she-ma-she-tay) = you're welcome. to remember this think "DontTouchMyMoustache!"daijoubu (die-jo-boo) = are you okay?/I'm okay.Oyaji = old man, disrespectful, though i do playfully call my dad that, whoops!Oba = aunt, Obaa = grandmaEmou = potato, i thinkkuro = blackaoi (ah-oh-ee said really fast so more like owie) = blueneko = cat....but don't call a person that. katana = type of swordkana = characters in alphabetkatakana = one of the three alphabets used for foreign words, like Englishhiragana = simplistic one of the three alphabetskanjii = the complicated scary alphabet.

Ichi (one)Ni (two)San (three)Shi (four)Go (five)Roku (six)Nana (seven)Hachi (eight)Kyuu (nine)Jyuu (ten)You might want to change your first post. We cannot "learn" you Japanese, however, we cannot teach you either, as none of us here on this topic is Japanese.Japanese is a very complex language, you cannot learn it from reading manga and watching anime. Pay yourself a class or ask a real Japanese person, as no people here can help you if they're not real Japanese. For the Japanese, their language is an art that has to be studied thoroughly and seriously. Please, if you are serious about learning it, learn it from professional, and NOT from manga/anime or a few words. Also, to show you how complex it is, there is many variation of the same word. As in, different words for the same meaning or the same meaning for different words. One last thing: Do not use Google Translate to learn the language, you cannot learn their art by only translating sentences and words (plus, google translate is a very faulty and basic tool).
hayz • 15 July 2012 at 9:08 PM
@chibidarknessI applaud you. B)But I still like taking down random notes while watching anime. xPSayonara- GoodbyeMerodi- MelodyShoujo- GirlBishoujo- Teenage girl...?Chotto- Hurry up!Motto- More.
chibidarkness • 15 July 2012 at 9:11 PM
@hayzThank you. U_UYou can, for the fun of it, take down a few notes from their media, but you cannot completely learn the language that way, let alone even learning a bit. Words aren't everything, there is writing (calligraphy) and pronunciation. Japanese have many different dialects and accents, so it's hard to learn from only one source.
hayz • 15 July 2012 at 9:13 PM
@ChibidarknessIt is hard, I mean, I have notes from both Kanji and Romaji. ._. It's just... BLUH.
chibidarkness • 15 July 2012 at 9:16 PM
@hayzNot only those two, they have other things such as Katakana too, or Hiragana (those two are commonly used for sound effects in manga). It is hard, but rewarding if you fully grasp its art. Good luck.
hayz • 15 July 2012 at 9:18 PM
@chibidarknessThanks, I'll need it. ;-; It'd be much easier if my school had an after school program just for learning Japanese, but nooooo there's a Korean one but no Japanese. .-.

faybaybay • 15 July 2012 at 9:22 PM
@chibidarknessJust lurking here and I saw yours post O:Amen to that. I cannot count how many people think they can be fluent in a language just by reading mangas, watching animes, using google translate, and looking up worlds online. You HAVE to either go to a professional or live in the country who's language you want to learn for a while to get the hang of the pronunciation and tongue of the words. Just like in chinese there are difference dialects & you have to have a certain tone when pronouncing a word or else you could be saying a totally different word and you don't even realize it ;_; Japanese is not an easy language
piucca • 15 July 2012 at 9:28 PM
@chibidarknessSome parts of japan say the numbers different XDAlso the romanji is sometimes different.Ichinisanshi/chigorokushishi/shichihachikuchu/juu
chibidarkness • 15 July 2012 at 9:34 PM
@faybaybayYep. Just like I speak mandarin Chinese while other Chinese speak Cantonese. I have a Japanese friend, and she likes to teach us stuff, so I guess I probably know a bit more of the language than other people (without boasting). :>@piuccaExactly. I was talking about that in my posts too. Like I said, they have different dialects and accent, so you cannot pinpoint one source for the language. 😊
piucca • 15 July 2012 at 9:37 PM
@chibidarknessIf speaking to someone online in romanji (which is all I know)They are pretty forgiving as far as inconsistencies.
faybaybay • 15 July 2012 at 9:38 PM
@ChibidarknessYeah it's confusing, some of my family knows Mandarin and some of them know Cantonese so I don't know which one I want to learn when I can take a language in school : P I have a japanese friend too! Except i've never heard her speak japanese, she keeps it to herself more. xD All I know is like ' Hi ' Thats cool that your friend teaches you though
chibidarkness • 15 July 2012 at 9:49 PM
@piuccaI'm sure they are. 😊Also, isn't "romaji"? @faybaybayMandarin is the one I'd recommend. It's the most spoken language in the World, even Cantonese Chinese knows mandarin (though they have this Cantonese accent, making it hard for me to understand sometimes DX). As for my friend, we teach her bits of mandarin in exchange. She's so cute. 😸@hayzBut Korean is a wonderful languages as well! In fact, all language are beautiful, those spoken verbally and non-verbally (morse, Braille, hand signs etc.)! They are forms of communication in mankind! The only bad language is the language of war. Tssk tssk. Also, Korean is probably close to Japanese (although mandarin is closer), since Korea was occupied by the Japanese during the Second World War. I bet the Korean people know a bit of Japanese. 😉
piucca • 15 July 2012 at 9:50 PM
@chibidarknessIs it?lol.... yeah it is XD
faybaybay • 15 July 2012 at 9:52 PM
@chibidarknessYeah Ill probably take that one. My school is dumb though and only offers spanish as a class, if you want to take german, chinese, french, or something else you have to take an online class that teaches you on the computer you I probably wont learn anything anyways : P I think im going ot start off with Malay because almost all of my family knows that one. Haha that's cool, the more languages you know the better ^^
chibidarkness • 15 July 2012 at 9:57 PM
@piuccaI...I think so? O:*googles it*@faybaybayIf you learn Spanish, it'll make learning French easier, they are both Latin languages so they have a lot of similarities. I take Spanish class, and it's fun. (though I suck at it, but at least I learned a few grammar rules and pronunciation)Also, I edited my post before this one, as a reply to Hayz. There isn't only verbal language, there is also non-verbal languages. 😊
faybaybay • 15 July 2012 at 10:02 PM
@chibidarknessI have to take spanish because I dont want to take Metal technology and those are literally the only 2 opinions : P I have no interest in either I cant take online languages like chinese until Sophmore or Junior year which I think is dumbbb cause as you get older it gets harder to learn a language
chibidarkness • 15 July 2012 at 10:07 PM
@faybaybay Yeah...it's true that when we age, it's harder....but only to an extant. The brain gets older and stores less memories/knowledge, but I believe that if one puts all their heart and use their shear willpower to learn (obviously because they want to learn), they can do whatever they want, learn anything they want. 😊
