draw out the ees in nee-sama as though they are long aas so N-Ay-Sa-Ma, and Niisama as Ni-i-sa-ma... though technically Sama is the very respectful suffix, try just using Nee-san or Nii-san for more familiar. Ohayo means good morning not evening. Lol. Konbonwa is good evening.

Imoto -younger sister
ototo -younger brother
oto-san/oto-sama -father
oka-san/oka-sama -mother
yoroshiku -nice to meet you
domoyoroshiku -very nice to meet you
kawaii -cute
kowaii -scary
uh........ been awhile since i've practiced my bit of Japanese....

Pronounciations:
A - ah
I - ee
U - oooo
E - eh
O - oh
N - nnnnnn
sounds the same when you put a consonant in front only plus the consonant, so k + a =kah, s + o= soh
Each character when writing two of the three alphabets is a combination of a consonant and a vowel like ka and so, except for a,i,u,e,o,and n.

@linpug I figured it was just a typo. lol

I know I know more than that but can't remember! I'm learning some Korean for forgetting what little Japanese I do know! ARG!!

I don't know Japanese, but I'll try to dig up the words that I do know. xD Most of them I learned from songs. Please excuse any mistakes. >_>

I have a Japanese audio thingy, I should probably listen to that again as well. ;P

Hmm, I looked up play and apparently the word for it is "asobu" or something like that. It may depend on how it's used, though.

You might want to change your first post. We cannot "learn" you Japanese, however, we cannot teach you either, as none of us here on this topic is Japanese.

Japanese is a very complex language, you cannot learn it from reading manga and watching anime. Pay yourself a class or ask a real Japanese person, as no people here can help you if they're not real Japanese. For the Japanese, their language is an art that has to be studied thoroughly and seriously. Please, if you are serious about learning it, learn it from professional, and NOT from manga/anime or a few words.

Also, to show you how complex it is, there is many variation of the same word. As in, different words for the same meaning or the same meaning for different words.

One last thing: Do not use Google Translate to learn the language, you cannot learn their art by only translating sentences and words (plus, google translate is a very faulty and basic tool).

@hayz

Thank you. U_U

You can, for the fun of it, take down a few notes from their media, but you cannot completely learn the language that way, let alone even learning a bit. Words aren't everything, there is writing (calligraphy) and pronunciation. Japanese have many different dialects and accents, so it's hard to learn from only one source.

It is hard, I mean, I have notes from both Kanji and Romaji. ._. It's just... BLUH.

@hayz

Not only those two, they have other things such as Katakana too, or Hiragana (those two are commonly used for sound effects in manga). It is hard, but rewarding if you fully grasp its art. Good luck.

Thanks, I'll need it. ;-; It'd be much easier if my school had an after school program just for learning Japanese, but nooooo there's a Korean one but no Japanese. .-.

Just lurking here and I saw yours post O:
Amen to that. I cannot count how many people think they can be fluent in a language just by reading mangas, watching animes, using google translate, and looking up worlds online. You HAVE to either go to a professional or live in the country who's language you want to learn for a while to get the hang of the pronunciation and tongue of the words. Just like in chinese there are difference dialects & you have to have a certain tone when pronouncing a word or else you could be saying a totally different word and you don't even realize it ;_; Japanese is not an easy language

Yep. Just like I speak mandarin Chinese while other Chinese speak Cantonese. I have a Japanese friend, and she likes to teach us stuff, so I guess I probably know a bit more of the language than other people (without boasting). :>

@piucca

Exactly. I was talking about that in my posts too. Like I said, they have different dialects and accent, so you cannot pinpoint one source for the language. 😊

@Chibidarkness
Yeah it's confusing, some of my family knows Mandarin and some of them know Cantonese so I don't know which one I want to learn when I can take a language in school : P I have a japanese friend too! Except i've never heard her speak japanese, she keeps it to herself more. xD All I know is like ' Hi ' Thats cool that your friend teaches you though

@piucca

I'm sure they are. 😊
Also, isn't "romaji"?

@faybaybay

Mandarin is the one I'd recommend. It's the most spoken language in the World, even Cantonese Chinese knows mandarin (though they have this Cantonese accent, making it hard for me to understand sometimes DX). As for my friend, we teach her bits of mandarin in exchange. She's so cute. 😸

@hayz

But Korean is a wonderful languages as well! In fact, all language are beautiful, those spoken verbally and non-verbally (morse, Braille, hand signs etc.)! They are forms of communication in mankind! The only bad language is the language of war. Tssk tssk.

Also, Korean is probably close to Japanese (although mandarin is closer), since Korea was occupied by the Japanese during the Second World War. I bet the Korean people know a bit of Japanese. 😉

Yeah Ill probably take that one. My school is dumb though and only offers spanish as a class, if you want to take german, chinese, french, or something else you have to take an online class that teaches you on the computer you I probably wont learn anything anyways : P I think im going ot start off with Malay because almost all of my family knows that one.
Haha that's cool, the more languages you know the better ^^

I...I think so? O:
*googles it*

@faybaybay

If you learn Spanish, it'll make learning French easier, they are both Latin languages so they have a lot of similarities. I take Spanish class, and it's fun. (though I suck at it, but at least I learned a few grammar rules and pronunciation)

Also, I edited my post before this one, as a reply to Hayz. There isn't only verbal language, there is also non-verbal languages. 😊

I have to take spanish because I dont want to take Metal technology and those are literally the only 2 opinions : P I have no interest in either I cant take online languages like chinese until Sophmore or Junior year which I think is dumbbb cause as you get older it gets harder to learn a language

@faybaybay

Yeah...it's true that when we age, it's harder....but only to an extant. The brain gets older and stores less memories/knowledge, but I believe that if one puts all their heart and use their shear willpower to learn (obviously because they want to learn), they can do whatever they want, learn anything they want. 😊
