Overnighting used to be a feature in Egg Cave before Version 2 came out. You would keep on looking for eggs without trying to steal them until the egg you wanted showed up. You would keep the window open until the next day, when the egg (unmelted, mind you 😋) would be steal-able, and you wouldn't have to use up all your tries looking for one. Is that a good explanation or no?

If you take too long to name an egg, it will disappear from the cave.
It's happened to a lot of people before.

I didn't get any Aerlos to experiment on, maybe next time. 😊 I did get some screenshots, so I'll see if I can post them later. ^^

I'm hoping to find out exactly how much time you need to wait for it to disappear, and if the fact that it disappears or the message you get has anything to do with the species.

This happened to me when a Tasma appeared and I could not think of a decent name for it in a short period of time

After that happened, I wrote down a list of possible names so if I get any eggs I want, I can have a list to refer to! 😊

The same happened to me with the one and only Elge appearing to me in the Cave during July 4-7. I was so happy to get an Elge, so I left the window open and thought about a pretty name. A few minutes later I wanted to steal the Elge and - poof! It was melted because I took too long.

I didn't know that this was something new for version 2.0. If I knew, I would have named my Elge "djwdfhwcdoh" or something like this and renamed it later.

So: Adversity is the school of wisdom 😉

P.S.:
I am so missing the good old overnight method!

This is terrible. o_O I had no idea this happened if you took too long to name it. I spend a long, long time looking over names for my new eggs, but usually I steal them first with anything as a name and then rename them once I've found one. It uses up my renames pretty fast but I'm glad I've done it now, if this is the outcome of taking too long. :|

@elluwah_2 - I did that same thing when I found my Star Puffup.
I just named it anything, not wanting my brower to close, and renmed once I thought of something aweseome. 😃

@nvr4evr1 Did you leave it in the cave overnight? If it was there before midnight, then you left it until after that's probably the problem. I think Ian took new overnighting precautions because we weren't really supposed to be able to do it during V1, it wasn't against the rules so he just made it impossible.
