calicogoldfish • 13 September 2012 at 3:35 PM
@meta_knight_lover Thank you! That summed it up about perfectly! I don't mind young users, more the merrier, but as you said, the really obvious ones can cause a lot of strife among the community >>@daffyduck3500That is the whole issue boils down to sadly. As I stated in other posts before, it would be better for younger kids to wait until they learn how to play the game without getting blocked by so many users. If it gets worse, people will block her before she even talks to them, and thus she will be virtually unable to talk to anyone >>

@calicogoldfish Yes, but I do think that it is more likely for a 7 year old to get CC from their parents than a 16 year old. That's what I meant.
calicogoldfish • 13 September 2012 at 4:35 PM
@cat 16 years olds can get a bank account, job, and paypal. I could argue that xD

I find this interesting to discuss, but Ill post my opnion later. Its actually fun; Im 14, but from the Netherlands. I got comments like: 'Wow, I didnt know you are from the Netherlands, your english is pretty good.' and 'Some people of my old class are 20 or older and their english writing is worse than yours.'So proud of my english 8D
calicogoldfish • 13 September 2012 at 11:21 PM
@essieh I've found it to be sad that most people have English as a 2nd language tend to speak and write better then most young Americans :x So I actually like talking to people more that are not from America more xD (Even though I am from America xD)
newlife • 14 September 2012 at 12:02 AM
@calicogoldfishI'm under 13, but people think I'm 15. It's scary, but my parents do know I'm here. (:Anyways, some people here are from all over the world, so some people don't know english well enough.
calicogoldfish • 14 September 2012 at 12:05 AM
@newlife I've stated many times in this topic before about how people who speak English as a second language usually are better then many Americans xD
newlife • 14 September 2012 at 12:07 AM
@calicogoldfishI know! I know a lot of languages, but english is the one I'm the best at.But some people are like,do u liek 2 trade ur unpeg for me caman?^ That's what I did when I was in FIRST GRADE. >_>
meta_knight_lover • 14 September 2012 at 12:09 AM
@calicogoldfishNo problem. I hope we get something done about this. My sis and I are both getting a bit annoyed with it. Everywhere else I go on the Internet there's always these little kids everywhere, so it would be nice if Egg Cave took a few steps to making it a better place.
cat • 14 September 2012 at 12:12 AM
@calicogoldfish Okay, not 16 year olds, bit 13 - 15 year old s.
icymuffin • 14 September 2012 at 12:31 AM
Ah, perhaps there should be those flags? I have seen some other forums use them, where if the user doesn't follow the forum rules, they get a flag/the bar increases. If the flag/bar gets too high, then they'll be banned from the forum for a period of time [weeks/a month.] Perhaps Egg Cave could implement that in the forums?Of course definitely not to be abused against those not fluent in English due to it being their second language or something along the lines of that...[I apologize if I'm only repeating what someone already posted... I'm too lazy to read through all of them at this point 😋]
calicogoldfish • 14 September 2012 at 12:41 AM
@newlife OH GOD I HAD THAT HAPPEN TO ME ;_; Someone was like, "Hi welcoem to eggcave can i have ur unipeg for my tasma?"@meta_knight_lover I know, I'm not saying allow no one on eggcave, just be more welcoming of older users...because they usually have money xD @cat Maybe, but I know some 13 year olds who convinced their parents into having a cell phone of their own xD@icymuffin That is actually a good idea. That or having flags be put on not only the forums but also say in the trading center where a lot of problem occur with younger users >>
newlife • 14 September 2012 at 12:44 AM
@calicogoldfish What the heck?! I was foolish when I was young, but whenever I join a site, I usually watch other trades and posts and learn. xD
meta_knight_lover • 14 September 2012 at 1:44 AM
@calicogoldfishAgreed. In this economy, kids are learning about money earlier. Where before kids would get whatever they want. So I think the users who are older would be putting more money into Egg Cave. However, I hard;y think it should be the main reason for the age limitations. Because I think mostly the age limits would help kid be more mature and learn more about the way the Internet works and such.

Sorry to dredge up this old thread, but this is something that's been bugging me for a while. I hate to sound whiny, but I can't stand it when someone's grown up speaking English and they can't put in the effort to make themselves intelligible. It's lazy and I personally find it kind of rude. Our conversation is worth nothing to them. @Orderedchaos's idea of the literacy test would certainly make the forums a lot less stressful and it means that people who are, in fact, capable of expressing themselves properly would be forced to do so. I obviously don't care about typos. That's to be expected on a platform that's fast-paced and has so many character limits. I just wish people would have the common courtesy to put a little effort into their interactions. Can we please implement something like this? I think it would be a great way of making the site more pleasant without discriminating against our younger/ ESL players.

@calicogoldfish I believe that there is no need for permanent bans, but maybe restricted words and phrases. Unless approved by a parent or guardian via email younger users can only use words like "Hi", "How are you?", "Want to trade" stuff like that. If beggars are bothering your, block them for a while, then unblock them once they are a little better at eggcave. People have think I am a teen judging by my grammer, though my grammer gets a little bad when I'm sleepy. (how r you instead of how are you, want 2 trade instead of want to trade) I'm one of those author kids though, so we can decide base on my grammer, of course. Look over the shoulder of other girls my age, I think their grammer is pretty good. I don't know when school-kids' grammer and writing starts to get better because I 've been homeschooled all my life. I'm 12 with a 13+ grade reading and writing level, so I know that you can't judge a person by their grammer. Also to help things people with younger siblings can help their sibling learn how to use EggCave and learn not to beg. I help my brother. That's just my thoughts.
rainbowrocks • 18 October 2014 at 7:10 PM
you need to be 13+ to use any site lol
ethereality • 18 October 2014 at 7:22 PM
@rainbowrocks That was very illiterate and very wrong.@calicogoldfishI've been using the com since I was 5 and used sites since i was 6. I joined Eggcave when I was 9 under the username @lutarimaster and now I'm 12. I feel 9 or under should not be able to access the forum and wall features, but can definetly join.
iceiceice • 18 October 2014 at 8:20 PM
Hm, I believe that an age limit is unnecessary, though I understand why it is enforced. But I really do believe there has to be some kind of restriction (however, I do not feel like it is the site's job to monitor this). For example, I feel like an exact age restriction is trivial (13+ to use the site). It's really mostly a maturity thing for me than an age problem.I've met some younger audiences who act more mature than the a few older players here. But I would like some restrictions to...some of the younglings (ex. forum posts). Otherwise, I tolerate most of them.
rainbowrocks • 23 October 2014 at 12:33 AM
@motivecat ha. ha ha. its wrong? how, dear? i meant, sites that older kids use. theres a law, coppa, that implies that every user must be over 13 or have a legal parent or guardians approval to join.
ethereality • 24 October 2014 at 3:53 PM
@rainbowrocksYOU SAID IT YOURSELF HA HA HA STOP LAUGHING YOUR HEAD OFF."i meant, sites that older kids use."quote from your post.
jubjubloversboy • 25 October 2014 at 12:12 AM
I can see how both sides of this debate go, and they seem quite equal. [WALL OF TEXT COMING. YOU ARE WARNED.]You don't want to be too strict, because as you can see, from @spirithawk , @motivecat, many other users (that I can't remember q.q) are actually quite responsible. I joined EC a long time ago, (about 2-3 years- not counting inactivity!) and there were much more older people on here (imo)- Yet some people there were less illiterate than people now. However, there are some people who are... illiterate or incomprehensible. I think the best solution (remember that this is just is an opinion) is to do something like @Orderedchaos brought up and give a literacy test. And while on that, you could also do what @arty10 suggested and just give younger people options/restricted talking like how you would on AQW: People who do not have verified accounts can only talk on what is called "canned chat", and can only talk through the limited options given in a small bubble on the corner of the chat box.
wolphire • 29 October 2014 at 8:17 PM
@calicogoldfishIf it existed, I think the age limit can be higher. Neopets, Flight Rising, and Valley of Unicorns set their age limit at 13. However, I don't believe in punishing those who already have accounts on the site but would not meet the age limit. They should be allowed to stay on the site, especially since they have proven they can conduct themselves in a mature manner. At the same time, an age limit won't help if people falsify ages. EggCave can't verify if users truthfully stated their names.Age limits also don't solve the problem of immature people. I have seen and interacted with many people around my age and older who act like children. I know one 30+ year old who is almost always immature and childish -- and mind you, this is in the office!Regardless of what stance EggCave may take, I don't think setting an age limit will solve your original problem...
leafdapple769 • 29 October 2014 at 9:16 PM
@calicogoldfishI think a age limit is completely unnecessary. I know plenty of people on here that are underage, and they don`t act crazy. Since when is Eggcave only for teens? Though I won`t say my exact age, I am under 13, and know that you can`t trade a tasma for a tenalp!
phoenixfire • 1 November 2014 at 5:42 AM
@calicogoldfishI agree.I'm 12, but I asked my parents and they said yes because it would teach me responsibility or whatever. I told my friends about it, and some signed up. However, they didnt ask their parents after me telling them they need permission except for my BFF and my other friend (she quit). One of my underage friends is 10, 11, and the other quit so i guess that doesn't matter. If you really want to know who is underage just ping me.
