Okay, maybe people will hate me for this, but I feel like there should be one. I am 20 right now and have a hard time reading half the posts on egg cave because some users have a very hard time spelling correctly.

I think the age limit should be 11, because by then users know how to read and type (hopefully) and have a concept of how to use this site. I don't think kids even should be on the Internet below that age.

Besides that, if a young user doesn't know how the site works, they can get harassed by others if they offer wrong on lots or do something silly like say "fed" and not actually feed and make the game experience bad for themselves and others.

Well.....what do you think EggCave?

@calicogoldfish

I agree but people can always fake their name, age, and pretty much anything on the internet.

@jazzyleia I know, it doesn't stop them. But many times they are caught because they act immature or spell terrible. I'm on an art site that only allows 13+ and people get caught all the time over there for being underage while saying they are 19. It's actually not hard at all to find them >>

@calicogoldfish
I agree, but when I was younger, I actually was extremely literate. I was mature, so any day I could lie about my age. But, on the other hand, that wouldn't really matter since nobody would mind if I was mature.

@calicogoldfish Technically there is an Age Limit as you must be 13 years or older to access the site, unless with parent's permission. Of course, we have no way to determine if your parent knows you're on Egg Cave or not.

@colette

I was too, I kept to myself quite a bit so no one could figure it out. But more times then not, kids are not like this. I think overall it would be better if there was an age limit because it would allow higher community standards and less complaining and harassing of "Why won't you trade your Onny for my Tasma?!" and thus having resort to blocking.

@calicogoldfish There shouldn't be a certain age limit, certain users should just know how to speak/type English correctly. I believe age doesn't have anything to do with it. I have seen others, well let's say someone; age 15 and couldn't type correctly.

@Meteoroid

Would it be possible to ask for a parent's email to make sure the kid has permission to play the game?

@fakeworld

Usually though six year olds don't have a grip on complicated language, I only knew how to type "cat" and "dog" not "offer on my lot, I have several unique creatures for trade!"

@calicogoldfish

It would certainly be possible to implement, but in the end it is all up to @Ian's discretion. I do think this is an extremely interesting topic to discuss though.

@calicogoldfish I agree with the email verification by parents, users under the age of 13 should have to verify their account by parent or guardian email. But then again I don't, because most users would simply go through that process themselves.

@calicogoldfish Age is not the only cause for these grammar crimes you've mentioned 😋 to some users English isn't their first language

This thread reminds me of when my mother had to fax Neopets to allow me access to the Neoboards. I must have been eleven at the time, but my memory is terrible.

I agree with this, but some kids (like I was when I was 11) have awesome grammar and spelling. 😊 Like @spirithawk yours is fine, see? But, not mentioning any names but I have 2 users in mind, are below age and have TERRIBLE grammar and spelling. I saw one person like this:

"k so wil u trad mi 4 somting"

-_-

Deleted • 12 September 2012 at 6:49 PM

@spirithawk me too!! People angry at me just because i haven't been taught to a space after periods yet. @jupiter_hollow tuaght me some proper grammar and roleplay meanings and now people usually don't get mad at me. (: I don't think their should be an age limit because we can already block and report people.

@Meteoroid

I know, a lot of people get in a twist about age limits too. I just think having a more "mature" age group, whether you can type literate or not, will allow older users like myself to feel more comfortable.

I'm actually not okay with talking to younger users under 13, simply because if they told their parents they talk to a 20 year old online (like me) no matter how harmless I may be, how do you think they might react?

@twilight_raptor

You also have a case and point, but I've found it to be sad that most people have English as a 2nd language tend to speak and write better then most young Americans :x

Some people are younger than 13 / 11 and their grammar is just fine. I think that there's no need for an age limit. I would think that you should be older than 5 years of age though.

@izzfred So they will just go harass others. We should either have a strict age limit or we should have users be able to be banned entirely if they are really disruptive.

@calicogoldfish i think we should be should be able to report people for being annoying other users.

@spirithawk I would bump that up by 5 years. I would not feel comfortable talking to someone who is 6. ._. I would probably be arrested if I spoke at all to them.

@Meteoroid

I also forgot, which most young users look over....older age group on eggcave = more money.

@twilight_raptor I'm not kidding, I've had perfectly fluent conversations with Germans and Polish people yet couldn't understand a word from another American xD

Deleted • 12 September 2012 at 7:01 PM

@Meteoroid i've never reported somone so i wouldn't know..... Then i think we have everything we need because users can be banned for being annoying with their bad grammar.

@twilight_raptor @izzfred

I've never seen a banned account before though. I've seen deleted accounts though >>

It's not all bad grammar too, it's begging people for CC, I've lost count of that. I think having older people playing more would allow more cash for EggCave to keep running, considering the people who buy CC is funding EggCave.

@calicogoldfish Some young users are incredibly mature. So you're just saying get rid of all the users under the age of 10 years? I think it would be unnecessary and kind of rude. Look at the Warrior Cats Website, look at Deviant Art, look at all those websites with Age Limits. Most children who are under the Age Limit do just fine. Look at me, I'm not even 10 yet. I don't see people angering at me. Then again, I think it's unnecessary. Think about it, it's like getting rid of some young, but mature people. After all, EggCave is a site for KIDS, not just teens.

Deleted • 12 September 2012 at 7:08 PM

@calicogoldfish i didn't beg even as a newbie and i'm only nine and knew not to because almost the whole population of eggcave is older then i had a feeling they would try to ban me for begging.

@spirithawk

Not really, I'm on DA and most of the younger kids are already showing they aren't mature because they are joining a site they know full well is for 13+, no ifs or buts.

I've seen so much drama associated with younger people on DA because they can't accept that other find their artwork less then perfect or other's opinions and start huge flames over stupid things.

And if EggCave was only for kids, how would it run? Most of the kids I know do not have a PayPal to buy CC (or bank account, considering you need to have one to make a PayPal account). If CC was not bought from older users, Kids couldn't play EggCave to begin with.

@calicogoldfish

A permanent ban from the site removes the account as well, so there isn't a public banner on an account reading "This User is Banned" or anything.
