I feel bad sometimes because of this.....

I have insomnia. It basicallly means I have trouble sleeping alone. Sometimes I feel like my parents are criticizing me for needing to sleep with one of them. I just feel bad because they're not getting enough sleep and it's because I need them to sleep with me. Any advice?

@izzfred Awh, don't worry. I share my room with my sister, and when she's having sleepovers with one of her friends, and I'm sleeping by myself, I don't feel as "safe". Do you have a pet? Like a cat or a small dog? I would suggest sleeping with one. 😉

O.O me too! I *can* get to sleep with something to snuggle with (i.e. big stuffed animal or my brother's huge pillow), and something warm/hot is better (i.e. hot water bottle), but it's always easiest when someone else is in bed with me. But, my parents won't anymore because I'm "old enough" to not need it. (I'm 13.) But it always takes me like an hour to get to sleep when I'm alone ☚ī¸

...Also, re. your suggestion about sleeping with a pet...
I think a bearded dragon is a bit too spiky. 😸

Try a hot water bottle?

Deleted • 30 September 2012 at 3:37 PM

@cqpkytty I prefer to feel either just right or something freezing cold..

@izzfred
I don't mean for heating up your bed or whatever, I mean for cuddling with it, like you would with a person.

Deleted • 30 September 2012 at 3:42 PM

@cqpkytty I know. I just don't sleeping with anything hot. I prefer to feel cold or feezing cold.

@izzfred
Then why do you like sleeping with a person? People are hot. 98.6 F body heat. 😋

Deleted • 30 September 2012 at 4:01 PM

@cqpkytty because I don't snuggle with them and I press myself against the cold wall.

@izzfred Like @cqpkytty said, people are hot and sweaty. 😋
Erm, then I say you should sleep with an alien from Pluto.

@spirithawk like I said I don't snuggle with them and I press myself against the freezing cold wall.

@izzfred
Get a life sized doll.
They are used for adults, but at lest they are very realistic.

@piucca it probably wouldn't work.

@izzfred
^^: sorry, thought it would be amusing.
You really need to just start going to sleep by your self.
After a few days/weeks you'll get use to it.

Everyone goes through this a few times in their life.
We all get through it by knowing that once our
bodies get use to one thing it will be more relaxed during sleep.

Try it for a few days.
The other thing you can try is writing down
what you feel when you are sleeping alone.
Scared, jittery, subconscious, mind running a mile a minute?

@izzfred

Hmmm?
Well, when I first moved to a new home for the first
time it took me a while to get use to it. I had
sleepless/restless nights, but I got over it.
When my boyfriend and I broke up whom I
slept with every night for four years it took
me a while to get over not having someone
next to me, but I got over it.

You just need to take sometime to get over
the attachment of having someone there.

You might also want to try white noise,
It could be the breathing that soothes you.

I am sure you can download some white noise.
