Blog ping. Profile ping.

Dearest @Ian, Egg Cave Staff, and Other Cavers,

I have realized that when someone pings you on the blog, or on someone else's profile, that you do not get a notification. Well I think it would be just dandy, and all over terrific if we did get a notification when that happens. Maybe if it doesn't appeal to EVERYONE then there can be a setting on the "preferences" page to turn those notifications on or off.

I asked Ian about this and he said that pinging would be strictly for the forums. I'd like this as well though.

As of right now, the pinging feature will be specifically reserved for the Forums. We have though about bringing pinging functionality to site blogs, but blog comments aren't threaded or more formally organized, which could make pings very confusing (i.e. finding where you were pinged).

And with regards to site profiles, pinging there could make Notifications become very bloated and then annoying. Users already receive a single Notification for when they receive a new comment, let alone the number of times they were pinged.

Let me know what you think... I am very open, but these are my initial thoughts.

Oh--well true about not being able to find your blog ping. But maybe there's a way to send you straight to the ping? I don't know how you would accomplish that, but I think it would be a very nice feature.

And I was I was thinking that all of those pings might annoy some people as well. But I also feel like it would still be nice to have the option of getting those pings, and maybe a lot of people would like it (me, and all of the supporters on this forum for example). That's why I suggested a setting to turn the on or off. That way those who don't like it can simply turn it off and continue with their normal forum, TC, and etc. pings, and those who want to receive other rings can turn those on. Kind of like Facebook mobile. You can choose what notifications get sent to your phone.
