The 8k pets stands for the ones adopted ever since eggcave was released.
The creature IDs are in about 800000-900000.
To your question, the answer is a yes, because if you randomly put any ID like
eggcave.com/egg/68 (this creature will not be found)
it means that the no. of virtual pets adopted and the creature IDs are related. If the adopted number increases, type and check the creature code of the most recent.
It means that that much creatures have been adopted ever since the release of eggcave including the ones which died.

and does anyone know when everything updates on eggcave like what time does creature with low happiness die? I'm thinking of stay up and refreshing at the time to see if the number lowers a bit. I think it was 3 am but there might have been some changes.

I think it refreshes at four now, along with the feeds ^^"

And Im in seventh grade gifted, and I think your math is right, but its still blowing my mind xP

So, for the record, I do think someone did find the equation. Fairly accurate as to how many creatures there were. Not gonna say who it is though.

Though, if I understand your first post correctly, I am highly doubtful there are 1691.09 Doovoo or Macbot out there. And yes, 500 is the highest possible number.

@daikirai I dont know about this, but can it be like the dead creatures count in rarity? We would need a accurate number which is divisible by the other value to find out the exact answer

No I don't think the dead creatures count in weighed rarities XD but It wouldn't be very accurate if it did.
