Axolotls stay in their larvae stage FOREVER!

There is a fish considered to be a link between sharks and rays called the Guitarfish.

Rats breed so quickly that in just 18 months, 2 rats could have created over 1 million relatives.

The horn of a rhinoceros is made from compacted hair rather than bone.

Even when a snake has its eyes closed, it can still see through its eyelids.

A group of owls is called a parliament.

Snakes are found on every continent of the world except Antarctica.

Male giraffes sometimes fight with their necks over female giraffes. This is called “neckingâ€. The two giraffes stand side by side and one giraffe swings his head and neck, hitting his head against the other giraffe. Sometimes one giraffe is hit to the ground during a combat.

The much maligned venomous cane toads earned their bad reputation shortly after being released into the Australian ecology in 1935 with the hope that they would control the destructive cane beetle population. They turned out to be failures at controlling beetles, but remarkably successful at reproducing and spreading themselves.

If you slowly blink at a cat, it means that you're saying 'I love you' to the cat just without words

After Preying Mantiss (?) mate, the female eats the male by tearing off the head first.
Also, snails can crawl across knife blades.

@mightyeglantine

Actually, some axolotls make it to their adult stage. It is rare though.

I can offer plenty of facts on birds of prey:

Peregrine falcons are the fastest animals on earth, being clocked at speeds around 280 mph

An owl's eyes take up 2/3 of the space in its skull

Barn owls have the best hearing of any owl (due to heart shaped disks around their faces)

Vultures are able to eat carrion because their stomach acid is so acidic that it kills disease causing pathogens

Vultures also pee on their own legs to keep cool

A vulture's form of self-defense is projectile vomiting

@clayosaurusrex

I have never heard of Axolotls reaching adult stage naturally without a dramatic change which would cause the Axolotl to go into survival mode, I will look into it though... I have heard of Tiger Salamanders and have read that they may be sold as larvae to imitate an Axolotl since Axolotls can turn a good profit but the buyer will soon find out that they haven't purchased an Axolotl but a knockoff of one. I believe I read that the Tiger Salamander and Axolotl are closely related so closely that they can be breed and are occasionally mixed up with each other.

I wanna try! 😊

Male peregrine falcons are 1/3 the size of the females.
Cats are considered the fine line between good and evil.
Female seahorses lay eggs, but the male carries them until they hatch.
Dogs avoid being on their stomachs as they become vulnerable.
A blue-eyed dog that has its eye color change to light brown is called "doe-eyed".
The black widow will it the head of her mate.
A squirrels brain is the size of a walnut.

I can only think of a few, so here you go:

The female mosquito is the one that bites you

Dogs can't get brain freezes

Dogs also can't sweat

Male Needlefish are the ones that carry the eggs until they hatch (just like the male seahorse)

Sharks close their eyes before they bite

Sharks have multiple rows of teeth

Hagfish defend themselves against attackers by producing a foul slime from their bodies

As a follow up to the hagfish tidbit... when they then want to get rid of that slime, they tie their own body in a knot and slide the knot down their body. It scrapes the slime off. Hagfish are so cool. 😊

Cheetahs have very little genetic difference from one another. Researchers tested the genetics in the red blood cells of 55 cheetahs, both in the wild and at various zoos. There are 47 enzyme indicators that are generally used to examine the genetics of humans or other animals.

All of them gave identical results for every cheetah. There were also 200 total proteins checked and they all matched in all the cheetahs. Cheetahs are an endangered species with an estimated population of 1,500 to 25,000 cheetahs worldwide. It is this genetic uniformity that probably contributes to their status as endangered species.

At some point in the past, cheetahs must have gone through a population bottleneck. This reduced genetic diversity, which in turn affected their ability to reproduce. In captivity, cheetahs have a very low reproduction rate, which was the reason for the genetic research in the first place.

What they found was that cheetahs probably don’t have much better reproduction rates in the wild either. When genetic diversity goes down, the amount of sperm and viability of it goes down, therefore slowing reproduction rates.

This is all about dogs 😊
Did you know:

In total there is said to be around 400 million dogs in the world.

The domestic dog has been one of the most popular working and companion animals throughout human history.

Dogs perform many useful tasks for humans including hunting, farm work and security as well as assisting those with disabilities such as the blind.

The most popular breed of dog in the world by registered ownership is the Labrador. With their gentle nature, obedience, intelligence and near limitless energy, Labradors make for excellent family pets and reliable workers. They often assist police and are a common choice as guide dogs.

Dogs have formed such a strong bond as pets, workers and companions to humans that they have earned the nickname "man's best friend".

Dog have superior hearing than humans, capable of hearing sounds at four times the distance.

Dogs have a remarkable sense of smell, they are capable of differentiating odors in concentrations nearly 100 million times lower than humans can.

The average life span for a dog is around 10 to 14 years.

wasp larvae

did you know that some wasps lay their egg's in other animals (such as cat, dog and other's)

when the larva hatches it eats till it gets to the heart of the animal.

when it hits the heart it makes it crysalis and stays there until its ready to come out.
