@rushingwater
Cool 😸 If I can figure out where to send it O.0

@rojoqueen
I think it is worse than wolves killing people because we have a mind of our own. Well wolves do to but I can't describe it. Humans have a more developed mind I guess I could say but sometimes I think other animals are smarter than us sometimes xD

*leaps into topic*

...

I support! *cuddles wolf* It's not fair that everyone kills them and blames 'em for stuff. ☚ī¸ Plus, I read @immortalraven's paragraph, and I completely agree. People need to stop trying to control nature. O.o Just let it do its thing, I mean, back in the day (lord, I sound old. XD) people got eaten by wild animals all the time! Plus, the poor wolves are probably hungry, and as bad as it sounds, it's the truth. Wars are WAY worse than wolves eating peeps, and even though wars are sometimes necessary, there are tons of ways to avoid it sometimes. >< But there they go, instead of finding ways to avoid things like war, murder, etc., they go blame wolves for all kinds of stuff, and kill them. Instead of looking at what WE'RE doing wrong, they take the easy way out and blame stuff on nature. =-='

Edit: But, on the other hand, this seems resolved! 😸 No worries guys, hunting is prohibited. ^^

@immortalraven
I have to agree entirely on your point. Humans are the ones who cause damage not wolves.

@immortalraven
Humans are smarter than animals. We have more of a 'mind' than they do, we think more than they do. Some animals (ex. dolphins) are really smart, but we're still smarter than they are.
But that doesn't make us superior to them. Think about it. If we weren't intelligent, what would we have? Opposable thumbs, barely any fur, teeth that are not at all sharp, fingernails instead of claws, okay smell, okay hearing, pretty good sight...We would pretty much die out as soon as we evolved. Intelligence is an adaptation to make up for it. Wolves have fur, sharp teeth, an amazing sense of smell, claws...They have great physical adaptations. We have great mental adaptations. Yay for us, we're TOTALLY better than animals because we have a different kind of adaptation than they do!

@purrclan
Uhhhhhh..... what are you trying to say. It sounds like a lecture O.0 I never said we were superior. I was just saying we kill, start wars even though most know beter than that and wolves and animals kill to eat or they felt threatend and that it wasn't their fault. O.0 If that made sense.

Oh, btw, @rushingwater, I can support ya here, but I can't write a letter. I'm not the type to take that kind of action... So, I guess I'm pretty much useless to you. Unless you want help writing the letter, I may be able to help with that a bit, give you ideas and such. 😸

@rushingwater

I understand that you really like wolves. I also like wolves. However, you lack a lot of understanding about this issue.

Allow me to take a quote directly from the Michigan government website: "Wolves remain a protected, nongame species in Michigan, but state management will afford more options when dealing with wolves threatening livestock or dogs." (http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153-10370_12145_12205_63607_63608-292027--,00.html) They have not been removed from the endangered species list for hunting purposes, as you claim. A "nongame" species is one that is not considered "game" and cannot legally be hunted. Additionally, the government hasn't rescinded all protection. The grey wolf is still listed as a protected species in Michigan.

Wolves have been removed from the endangered species list before. On January 29th, 2007, wolves were delisted due to their amazing progress in population regrowth. However, when that growth failed to persist, they were put back on the list to help in conserving them. This reclassification as endangered occurred on September 29th, 2008. (http://www.michigan.gov/documents/dnr/WolfManagementHistoryBRoell_347584_7.pdf) If this delisting harms the wolf population, then wolves will simply be put back on the list.

By the Endangered Species Act of 1973, "The term 'endangered species' means any species which is in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of its range [excluding insect pests]". That's Article 3, section 6. If a population is shrinking, then analysts have reason to believe that it's growing closer to extinction. However, if a population has been steadily growing for many years, then analysts have reason to believe that they are no longer in such danger of extinction.

The change in population of the grey wolf in Michigan has been consistently positive since legislation was imposed federally in 1973. The grey wolf population in Michigan in 1973 was estimated to be six. There are now an estimated 687 wolves living in Michigan. In the Great Lakes Area alone there are over 4,432 wolves; a higher number than the baseline you provided in your first post. The population has been steadily growing over a number of years, which is enough to remove it from the Endangered Species List. (http://www.fws.gov/midwest/wolf/aboutwolves/WolfPopUS.htm)

Another important fact that many young people on this topic seem to be missing:

Just because a species is removed from the federal endangered list does not mean that humans are allowed to start killing them. This issue is not about humans killing wolves.

The removal of the grey wolf from the ESA list is a purely scientific decision. There are other species in the United States that are more threatened than the wolf and would benefit from the resources of the Fish and Wildlife Service. Thats all there is to it.

If you want to write a letter to your senator, make it about /why/ the wolf is not yet qualified for removal from the list. Find other species with similar population growth curves that either remain on the list or suffered population declines after their removal. Make an argument for why the grey wolf still needs the full protection of the state, not just marginal protection.

If you have any questions or civil arguments, I'd be happy to continue this discussion. However, if you yell at me for "NOT HELPING, WHAT THE HECK?", then I will promptly leave.

@silver_winged Woah, that's a lot. O.o So they aren't endangered, but still protected, right? Because, if that's the case, I don't see what we have to worry about anymore! 😊

@ems
Exactly. Not endangered, still protected. People still aren't allowed to hunt them. It's just a reclassification.

Sorry it was so long, I felt like I ought to cite my sources. ^^;

@purrclan ?Animals are not dumb and way smarter then some fricken humans!!!!, I hate stereotypes! Animals have no choice but to go with the "flow" of the human ways of DESTROYING ANIMAL HABITAT. What is it? Just because the humans seem smarter than humans, if they got the same education as us, they would by far succeed us! Scientists have proven that DOGS use 9x more of their brain power to think then some rash humans! :Me Is Mad: ☚ī¸

Hunting wolves in Illegal in Michigan yet we still have to worry about poachers. I can hunt any animal I want to but the wolf I can't because for some reson I think I'm part wolf and it's my destiny to help them. I just have a strong connection to them and I get really mad if I go over to friends house and they have wolf skins on their walls. Wolves are judged and are extreamly beautiful creatures and I would hate to see the wild of them disapear. If this keeps up the only wolves there will be left are those that are in captivity.

@silver_winged

You said what I came in here to say. *high five*

Honestly, wolves are my favourite animal in the world. They're not 'evil.' As people say. And I've been a part of many 'save the wolves' campaigns in the past.

However, looks like we're all good here. ^^

And someone stated before how wolves harm humans and children. Wolves don't seek out to do that. They will if they're threatened. Like any other species on the planet. It's not specific to wolves.

I live on a huge island. We have five wolf packs here. No one I know has ever seen one. They keep to themselves. They avoid us.

Either way.

To sum it up.

Wolves are amazing but @silver_winged is right.

GO WOLVES! 😃
