question for people who have had braces

i got mine of last year
just wondering if any of you who had them off had a slight lisp after getting them off??

i never noticed i had one till a week after i got them off, i was with my best friend and her cousin just met me, she said to her in front of me "your friend has a lisp, but it suits her so its cool" i felt a little offended, i know it wasnt meant as an offence but yeah...
i got my braces off start of last year
a week after finding out i had a lisp i asked one of my friends if i did and he said i did and not to worry about it. last week i asked the same friend if i still had it and he said i did still but it was hardly noticable now.

im also wondering, if you did get a lisp, did it go away??
cos i want it gone D:

@eldnew My friend got her braces off a while ago, and she had a lisp too but I think she was wearing a retainer/thing that goes on after braces. She lost the lisp though. I think. O. O

I have a lisp if I wear my retainer... I've never heard of that happening though! Braces shouldn't affect the way you talk.

I believe it's because your mouth is still trying to process how to handle the absence of wires and brackets in your mouth. Your mouth is still unsuited to this, so when you talk, your mouth has trouble producing the fully correct sounds, creating a lisp. After a while, it should go away as you get accustomed to having no braces.

Haha, yup. I actually don't know if that's correct, as I still have braces and need another year of them. But it makes sense logically.
