Walking Your Dreams~

What if nightmares became part of reality?

Around the world, people have fallen victim to a new disease, still unknown to the public. Alongside those who have it, only oneirologists - dream scientists - are aware of this sickness. They are still struggling to find a cure, as those with the disease die after one year of having it. Only two symptoms are present; the first is a supernatural ability, each unique. The second is the power to enter the dreams of others. To do so, they simply place their fingers onto another person's head while they are asleep, allowing them to connect to their mind. However, there's a catch: they can get lost in dreams, trapped in a place that does not exist, and die within it.

You are the DreamWalkers.

Introduction:

This roleplay is a remake of another one under the same name, found below.

The original idea is Wolfmilk's, the creator of the previous roleplay. She has requested that I take over.

My sister, @Ladybugheart, has re-written this roleplay. Everything that wasn't in the old roleplay was added by her.

Story~

Disease. Unreal abilities and powers. Death.

There's one more thing that plagues every DreamWalker: nightmares. They cannot sleep without having their fears vividly haunt them. But occasionally, these dreams contain messages. Encoded in riddles may be hints and useful information, but nothing mentions an alternate cure. While these messages vary, every DreamWalker learns of their disease though these nightmares. They learn of their powers, of NightMares, and how they can survive.

There's only one known way they can avoid death, and that is to eliminate all NightMares.

Other DreamWalkers have decided to use this newfound ability to wreak havoc in dreams, turning fantasies into nightmares. Unlike normal DreamWalkers, they are able to manipulate dreams. These people are known as NightMares DreamWalkers that have turned to the dark side for whatever reason. Though DreamWalkers can cure themselves by demolishing NightMares, NightMares cannot do the same by obliterating DreamWalkers. For them, death may be inevitable unless there's another cure.

Dreamwalking~

If they are to save themselves, the DreamWalkers must track these people down and eliminate them. Until then, their disease will not be cured, and they will die. While some work alone or refuse to participate in killing others, many DreamWalkers choose to meet with each other to do so. But NightMares value their lives just as much as anyone else, so this will not be an easy task. Many of them know that they must eat or be eaten, and have begun to demolish DreamWalkers in order to survive. NightMares also form groups, but not quite as frequently.

In addition, not all DreamWalkers have good intentions. Some team up with NightMares or use their powers in harmful ways or against other DreamWalkers. Others are not malevolent, but still pose an obstacle to them by protecting the NightMares or opposing the DreamWalkers. Additionally, not all NightMares are ill-intentioned; it varies from person to person.

There are two ways to become trapped in a dream: the dreamer wakes up, or the DreamWalker loses physical contact with the dreamer in real life. While trapped, the DreamWalker remains unconscious, but will collapse on the floor. In addition, the dreamer inside the dream will fall unconscious. However, their waking self and their future dreams will be unaffected.

There are also two ways for someone who is trapped to escape. One of them is placing their fingers to that same dreamer's forehead while they are asleep, thus allowing them to connect to their mind again and exit. However, because they are unconscious, this usually requires either the dreamer or another person to understand their dilemma and assist them.

The second way is by becoming NightMare.

When someone enters a dream, they usually encounter the dreamer. A person becomes a NightMare by killing them. The dreamer's waking self will not be affected by this, and they will simply wake up with a start while the dreamer will regain consciousness. However, they can no longer dream as they once did. Whenever the person falls asleep, they face vivid nightmares like the ones DreamWalkers face.

DreamWalkers must find the unconscious dreamer in order to kill them, and will then become a NightMare. A NightMare must do the same thing in order to leave the dream, but they will not become a NightMare as they are already one.

When they enter another person's dream, the DreamWalker falls unconscious and only regains consciousness once they exit. These dreams are always very vivid for the dreamer and DreamWalker, and they can even communicate with each other. Multiple people can enter a single person's dream; however, NightMares cannot manipulate dreams with other DreamWalkers in them, just as they cannot manipulate their own dreams or another DreamWalker's dream. When someone is dreamwalking, anyone who tries to enter their dream will find that nothing happens.

There are numerous ways for a DreamWalker to die from their dreams. The first is if the dreamer's real self dies while the DreamWalker is in their dream. In addition, while a DreamWalker automatically leaves a dream if they start to die in it, their waking self retains any injuries they may have acquired. (However, they can avoid injuries by leaving the dream before they are hurt.) The exception is with those who are trapped, as they cannot leave and will instead die. Lastly, if a DreamWalker is killed by another DreamWalker in a dream, their real self dies as well.

When one year goes by, the DreamWalker will fall into a deep sleep one day before death. Once this time period passes, their body will simply stop functioning.

There is one more cure for DreamWalkers, but there is no way for anyone to know about it unless they carry it out themselves or find out from someone who has cured themselves in this way. In addition, it is extremely difficult to carry out and often has unexpected consequences. But for some, it's their only chance of survival.

When a DreamWalker dreams or dreamwalks, their real self is asleep or unconscious while another version of them takes over in the dream. This second version does not carry the disease. When the DreamWalker dreams (this does not apply when they are dreamwalking), somewhere inside the dream world there is a small portion of the real world they can enter, which is where the DreamWalker's physical self is. They second self will appear as a hazy figure to anyone around. There, they can kill their physical self and have their second self without the disease take their place.

However, this is so difficult because this piece of the real world is not easily found. In addition, the DreamWalker must find it while a nightmare transpires around them. But most of all, one must usually know what to do if they are to cure themselves this way. Still, it's not impossible for someone to spontaneously find the piece of the real world and kill their real self (though they'd probably have to be crazy to do that.)

However, if they killed their real self and had their second self take over, they will no longer be able to dreamwalk as they have no other self to do the dreamwalking.

As DreamWalkers, as NightMares, your futures lay in your hands. Every move you make will decide whether or not you'll live to reach your dreams.

Setting~

The disease is worldwide, so DreamWalkers can be anywhere. To keep it simple, however, many tend to gather around a fictional town around the East Coast of America, so this will be the default setting for characters. It is fine if they are elsewhere, but they are less likely to encounter other DreamWalkers.

Kat Hood~ Dreamwalker

News flashed across the screen of the TV, speaking of all the things happening on in the world. The TV never stopped playing in that house, everyone in the household hoping that one day it'd bring good news. The girl in the chair in front of the screen sighed and got to her feet, deciding to check the mail. She knew her parents were watching her every movement, like always. She groaned privately to herself before opening the door, quietly walking outside. She opened the mailbox and began to shift through the letters. Bill, bill, ad, coupon, letter addressed to her...strange. Oh course Kat Hood was used to strange, being a Dreamwalker made her life VERY strange. She read the letter closely.

"Please meet at the Leuvleu Cafe at 11:00 on Saturday."

Kat raised an eyebrow, "Wonder who its from." She asked herself before shoving it in her pocket. Her feet crunched against the snow on the ground as she headed back inside. She looked upwards for a moment, seeing the incoming rain clouds. "I hope I get there before it begins to rain.

Logan Frysure~ Nightmare

Kat was reading through the letter and didn't realize that nearby a boy, one about her age was watching her. Logan Frysure knew that the girl was a Dreamwalker and he watched her closely, any chance that he got to spy in Dreamwalkers, he took, you could learn so much by doing that and he wondered why she stood there, staring at a single letter. He wondered if he could get the chance to swipe the letter. It'd be hard considering it was in the girl's pocket. He shivered slightly, the snow that he was crouched down on was freezing, you know, being snow and all.

Trish Kare Ett ~ Dreamwalker
~~
I slumped down in my bed reading a book. Im unaware of the cars are slowing down, examining my house. I couldn't care less how astonishing people thought my house was. I gaze up from my book to see the mailman drive up do my house and insert a few letters in my mailbox. As he drives away, I get up and run to my mailbox. I see a few ads and throw them. They land near a sign that said "Don't litter. 1,000 dollar fine." I examine at the letters, and examine one that doesn't have any return address. /Bizarre./ I consider. I take the letter to my house and sit down. I smell it, and rip it open.
It says:
"Please meet at the Leuvleu Cafe at 11:00 on Saturday."
/What?/ I think. It's 10:50. I suppose I could go, right? It shouldn't hurt.

Jim Morrison "Reid" ~ DreamWalker

He couldn't, for the life of him, understand how was it that only he, of all people, seemed to end up in such situations.
He wasn't trying to make himself seem like a martyr, truly. He disliked pitying himself, but the more he pondered on his current state the more he realized he was to pity. Not everybody ended up soaked, with a broken nose, black eye, cracked ribs, lack of powers, a police warrant and a lost shoe in one day, did they? He'd forgotten to count the loss of his lighter as well... which was by far the worst part of today.
And Jim Morrison... no, Reid... Reid swore that somewhere up there, God was laughing his butt off at him.
He couldn't blame the god, though. What's not to laugh about his current state? He was soaked to the bone in water from a gutter, completely and utterly lost, missing a shoe and- he'd already listed all his misfortunes today, hadn't he?
He walked along the street with the expression of a grumpy feline, a hand pressed over his bloody shirt, resting a fleeting touch to his dipping chest, where the ribs had been broken. The pain wasn't excruciating... yet. His broken nose troubled him more - he could barely breathe trough it. He only hoped it didn't end up permanently crooked.
His red hair was totally wet, clinging to his head like a mop, amber eyes completely vacant of all emotion but annoyance. He currently hated the world. And you couldn't blame him for it really...
Worse part was - he had nowhere to go. Not a home or a hospital. He didn't have the money for either.

Leviathan (Levi) Levesque - Dreamwalker
--
Levi rolled out of bed onto the floor, landing wih a thump and a muffled giggle. Turning onto her back, she stared at the ceiling of her bright green room with curious violet eyes. She searched for shapes in the pattern, finding a lopsided lion and a chubby bunny-like shape. Levi stood up and raced down the stairs in her red footed pajamas the minute the warm scent of pancakes hit her, sliding through the kitchen and into the dining room. Leaping into a chair, she bounced quietly and waited patiently as her adoptive mom set a plate with a steaming pancake loaded with butter and syrup.

Diving right in, Levi gobbled the flapjack like it was nothing, earning some chastising from her mom. "Levi! You'll make yourself sick!" She exclaimed, insisting that the girl slow down. Levi rolled her eyes, but didn't argue, already feeling a bit green.

~
I see the mailman driving his truck, and I assume that my letter is being delivered right now. I decide to make my way to the cafe, because I want to be there if anything happens. I wonder if anyone will actually show up. Even if they do, who will direct the meeting? Certainly not me. I could never show myself to my sister again. Still, I want to blend in there to make sure my sister and everyone else is doing okay. The cafe is pretty famous, and everyone I mailed lives nearby, so I think everyone could make it there.

I walk to the cafe. It's thirty minutes, but It's 10: 30 when I get there. I decide to wait in the corner, and decide to wait till 11: 30, to see if anyone decides to show up.

Clive Heraldi- NightMare

Clive Heraldi woke up with a feeling of peace, and for a moment he felt completely at ease, lying in a patch of sunlight in his bed. Closing his eyes, he sighed. Then it hit him. He wasn't normal. He was a NightMare. He killed someone. He was going to die. Groaning, he rolled over and pulled the blanket over his face. He would sleep some more, then face the cruel world later.

Well, at least he had the DreamWalkers, a showered Clive addressed himself in the mirror. He wasn't one of them, exactly, but he wasn't evil or bad or whatever NightMares were supposed to be, so that said something. And he had his sister, but Mariel Heraldi was away somewhere. Clive had never felt so lonely. Brushing his hair in a way that ruffled it in an "I don't care" way but (hopefully) didn't try too hard, he inspected his reflection, giving it an okay and stepping out of the washroom.

Clive dashed down the stairs, letting his lean legs do the work. He wasn't terribly athletic, but he could've been if he wanted to, he knew, so his body was always in an okay state. His black laced boots made a satisfying whack on the stairs, and his his peacoat flew out behind him like a cape. Super Clive, the good NightMare, out to check his mail for letters from Mariel. Or his magazines. Reaching the exit to the ground floor, Clive slowed and walked through the door. Pulling out the key for his mailbox, he opened it tentatively. He never liked this part of getting mail, hunched over, almost vounerable, before you could open the box and take your mail. Pulling out several papers, Clice hurridly closed the box again and scrambled up the stairs once more.

Teiko~~

The rosy, golden sun slowly ascended behind swirling silver clouds, streams of sunlight finding small gaps through which it could penetrate like a needle penetrating the soft skin of a young child screaming as they receive their first flu vaccine. The clouds made Teiko nervous, not because anything was penetrating her soul, but because they spoke of rain.

Teiko sat at a small table in the Leuvleu Cafe, sipping a glass of watermelon juice. A few pink drops splattered across her burgundy coat, and she quickly absorbed them with a napkin before they could reach her black dress. /What a pain, it's a shame, this is probably going to stain./

She opened her laptop and searched up "dreams." She had already gone through several pages of results, many times, but never found any information regarding her disease.

This was the reason Teiko became a NightMare; there wasn't any information on the internet, but perhaps she could search for a solution herself. Try everything and see what happens, do whatever it takes. Sure, it was a little morbid. But if she died, she wouldn't be there to care. And if she did live to find a cure, she'd be glad she did this. Eight months - that was how long she had.

Trish Kare Ett~ DreamWalker

Christmas was approaching. The noise of the city penetrated my ears as a shot for rabies would penetrate one's skin. Bells, cars talking and Christmas music filled my ears. The smell of freshly baked gingerbread cookies tinted the air. A breeze of warm air from the door opening from a shop.

I could hear the jumbled sound of voices as the shop. I entered. Finally, I found a table and sat down. A waitress went up to me, asking if I wanted a drink. After finding out they had no carrot juice, I ordered ice water.

There was free wifi, so I got out my laptop. I tried to think of any answers to the cure. I've had the disease for about 2 months. I've found out information, but I'm not sure if it's useful or not.

Levi - DW
--
Levi had wolfed down her pancakes, and jumped up and ran outside to get the mail. Her mom shook her head, smiling. Always jumping, never stopping. Endless energy, as some would put it.

Levi opened the mailbox to find a single note.

"Please meet at the Leuvleu Cafe at 11:00 on Saturday."

Interesting.

"Hey mom!" Levi called as she ran back up to the front door. Jogging back to her mother, Levi produced the note from her pocket and handed it to her mother. "Can I go? Pleeeaaaasssee?" Her mom read the note a few times. "... Hm.. Alright, but be very careful." The woman eyes the note suspiciously before handing it back to her daughter.

"Yes!" Levi whispered, dashing upstairs to quickly throw on her red t-shirt, jeans, and Vans before rushing out the door.

"Levi! Aren't you forgetting your--" Levi's mother stood in the open doorway, holding up a blue zipper sweatshirt, but the girl was already gone. The mother sighed. "... Coat." She shook her head. "That child's going to catch a cold."

I see another girl with a laptop right next to me. I peek over her shoulder and see a web page on dreams. /Is she a DreamWalker?/ I think to myself.

"Hi." I whisper into her ear from behind. "Are you interested in dreams?" I ask her. There's probably a low probability she's actually a DreamWalker, and I'm probably making a fool of myself.

Teiko~~

Teiko glanced outside, debating over when she should leave. A soft layer of snow coated the ground like sticky, messy frosting. She wasn't looking forward to going outside. However, if it began to rain, she might be stuck in the cafe until the storm ended. If she decided to stay at the cafe for only a short time, she could be stuck in the rain without an umbrella.

She noticed as a weird girl, slightly younger than her, took a seat at a nearby table. She reminded Teiko of a carrot, and seemed to like carrot juice as well.

"Are you interested in dreams?" Carrot Girl whispered to her.

Teiko glanced up, immediately considering that she was a DreamWalker. It would make sense, unless it was her intention to sound like a creepy salesperson. But until Carrot Girl tried to start selling her stuff, she had to find out more without giving herself away.

"I suppose," Teiko responded. "I've always wondered how they work. Why, do you know something about them?"

She didn't seem to have any huge reaction, so I assume that she isn't a DreamWalker. I kick her under the table, infuriated that she wasn't a DreamWalker.

"Go eat a carrot." I mumble. Whatever. I have to answer her question. Why would I want to know?

"Um, I have some carrots that can make you fall asleep. Would you like to buy one?" I grab a carrot off of of someone's table and change it under the table and hand it to her. "Would you like to try?" I ask her.
My waiter comes up to me with my water.

"What would you like?" She asks.

"A bowl of carrots." I grumble.

"Is that all?"

"YES!" I scream, kicking her in the direction of the kitchen.

Kat Hood ~ Dreamwalker

Kat was sitting in her room, contemplating the note. There was a good chance that it was a trick some how, from Nightmare most likely. However, her curiosity got the best of her and she slipped on her black jacket, shoving the note in her pocket.

Kat looked at herself in the mirror, pulling at black beanie onto her head. She then opened her window and crawled out into the the cold air. Her parents would never let her go to the Cafe by herself so she's have to sneak out if she wanted to go. She landed on the ground with a small thud and she hurried off into town.

It was about 5 minutes later when Kat walked into the nice warm diner. She closed her eyes as she felt the warmth against her skin and she sat in a booth near two girls with laptops. Kat pulled out her own iPhone and began to go through her email, checking the time every now and then, waiting for it to be eleven. She waited for a waitress and when she finally got one she ordered a simple sweet tea.

Teiko~~

Carrot Girl kicked Teiko under the table in rage. /Does she want me to play along or something?/ Teiko pondered.

The girl mumbled something about carrots that Teiko couldn't quite make out and proceeded to advertise a carrot that would apparently make her fall asleep. Carrot Girl grabbed a carrot from someone's plate, handing it to her.

Teiko found it so stupid that she smirked slightly, ready to start laughing. She must have really been be terrible at lying, or maybe it was just that Teiko was so good at it.

She considered taking the carrot just for the fun of it, but decided against it. On the off chance that it wasn't a scam, Teiko didn't need to fall asleep in the middle of a cafe.

"No thank you," she responded, turning back to her laptop.

A few moments later, Teiko glanced back toward the girl as she screamed, "YES!" and kicked her waitress. /She must have anger issues./

The girl declined her offer of the magic carrot. /Well, there is no use for the carrot not./ She considered stuffing the carrot down her mouth, but she new that this wasn't the best idea, and she had to remain calm.

She put it down on the table, waiting for my carrots. Then a girl sat down to the table next to her, occasionally pulling out a phone. /What's she doing?/ She thought to herself. She tried to lean over the girl she offered a carrot, trying to peer at the screen of her phone. Suddenly, her chair tipped over, and she toppled over both of the girls. /Oops./ She thought.

Kat Hood ~ Dreamwalker

Kat was innocently checking her email when suddenly a girl fell over her, knocking her to the ground. Kat winced as she fell on her butt and she looked at the other girl on the ground. "What the heck? Snoop much?" She demanded, picking up her phone. /Can't a person check their email without being snooped on?/ She asked herself before picking herself up. The waitress had arrived and was looking at her weirdly, giving her her drink and walking off.

Kat frowned, she'd wanted to place her order but the waitress had just left so she just turned back to the girl that had fallen on her, looking at her in slight curiosity.

Clive Heraldi- NightMare

Bills, ads, flyers. It was a terrifying stack if papers that Clive was determined to conquer. After sorting the papers into different piles, he sat back with sayisfaction, admiring his work. Mariel would've laughed at his antics, Clive knew. He jerked up as suddenly a loud buzzing came from his pocket, and Clive's brain went into overdrive as he recognized the sound that Mariel had set on his phone to be her text alert. Fumbling with his lock sequence, he read the text. "Meet me at the Leuvleu Cafe at 10:30." Faint panic coursed through Clive as he scrambled to tie his boot laces and button at least a few buttons of his peacoat. Mariel had laughingly sworn an oath not to contact Clive while she was away- save for emergencies. If she was texting him to meet her in such a short while, she must've been back already. Or maybe someone took her phone, or maybe it was the lawyers coming to discuss her will, or... Clive shook his head free of those thought and set back down the stairs with grim determination, stopping in front of a window to check on his reflection. Mariel dissaproved of him being messy.
Hurrying down the few blocks that separated Clive's building from the cafe, he stopped to walk the last few steps, collecting himself. Opening the door to the familiar jingle of a bell, he grinned at whoever decided to stare at him, beraggled and handsome, he knew, and ordered a Frappe, for he needed to look like he was doing something, and he needed something to cool his nerves. He pulled out his phone- but Mariel hadn't texted him anything else. Checking the time, it struck Clive that he was early. He had plenty of time to kill playing Angry Birds.
