I like the expression you put on the second stage.

I don't really understand the 1st stage though? Or at least, why it's positioned like that?

I guess quirky fits as a personality trait.

Maybe when it's born the creature is just automatically sleeping at first, and then when it grows into the second stage it finally awakens? But since it has pretty much been living off of the nutrients it received while in it's egg, the creature is malnourished and gains the desire to consume everything on sight?

That would make sense, for a virus. They can lay dormant in incubation for a long time, and then suddenly become active out of seemingly nowhere in the next year. Like rabies in wolves.

Sure it would make sense ... growing and sleeping without the possibility of eat would make it ferociously hungry, bringing it to devour anything it finds in its way ...
I didn't developed the story too much, actually ... english it's not my forte. Dx
