Site Suggestion:

Science and Research Creature Categorization (SARC)

The SARCC is a categorization system to organize all of the known creatures of Arc.

Benefits:

----This system can enhance our understanding of Arc creatures and their relationship to each other.
----It can also help collectors to find related species.
----It can help Egg Cave Artist and User Creations to discover what species and creatures Arc could use more of.

**This Post will be used as a discussion board to fine-tune, organize and improve this categorizing system.***

This list will be updated as new creatures are released and new categories are decided upon.

FAQ:

Q: How do the Categories work?
A: There are Four different levels a creature can be classified under. The Kingdom is very general, Animal, Plant, Magical, other. The Class is meant to be wide reaching and be defined by major aspects such as feathers, scales, fins, magic ect. (Example> Mammal, Bird, Reptile....) The Order is more specific and is related to the species (Mammals> Wolf, Cat, Whale, Marcupial....). The final tier is called the Family, this subcategory is created when two or more creatures of a species can be group together with common traits.(Mammals> Wolf> Winged Wolfs)

Q: How to refer to a creature?
A: A creature is referred to by it's deepest category.

Q: How do you choose a category for a creature?
A: A creature is placed into a category that best fits it based upon the Physical Appearance and the information in it's info.

The current SAR Creature Categories are:

Kingdoms: Numbered by i
Class: Number by # 1-10
Order: Numberd by letter A-z
Family Numberd by !

Below is the current list of categories and structure without creatures. The creature section is further below.

~~~~~~~~~~~~Please keep things civilized in this discussion. ~~~~~~~~~~~~I am open to suggestions, especially related to new Specific Categories and changing current creature's categories.
~~~If you see a creature missing please point it out.

~~~I will be posting subtopics and polls for new creatures and decisions relating to the SARCC
~~~I will be doing my best to keep this updated. But if the list and creature list are not the same, it is just a matter of me getting to it for the fixes. Thanks for the patience.

@gabrieltaft I think a classification system for Eggcave is a great idea, but are you planning on narrowing it down?

@Skittlejg

Do you mean add more categories?

Then yes, this is just a rough draft version. Going to go deeper into the main categories and I'm also thinking about giving creature's titles, based on a first and secondary category.

I tried to make the SARCC layout nice and easy to read but it didn't turn out right. I'll have to go through it again and make the list layout and categories more distinct.

@gabrieltaft Ummmm.... I meant make it so that there aren't such broad cotegories, make it be more like Linnaeus's. For example, there would be:

Animals

Mammals:
Rodents:
Squirrels
Bunnies

Canines:
Wolves
Bears

Reptiles:
Dragons
Lizards

Amphibians:
Frogs
Turtles

Birds:
Flying
Non-flying

Aquatic:
Fish
Octopus

So you would have a "Kindgom" (Animals, Plants, Nonliving), a "Class" (Mammals, Reptiles, Amphibians etc.), for Mammals you'd need an "Order" (Rodents, Canines, Felines, etc. but you wouldn't need one for the others, just mammals. πŸ˜ƒ), then you'd have a "Family" (Squirrels, Bunnies, Fish, Dragons, Wolves, etc.), and finally you'd have a "Species" which would just be what type of creature it is. πŸ˜ƒ

@skittlejg Yeah! That's how I tried to do it but instead of putting all the spaces between categories and subcategories, like I wanted, it just squashed them all together.

So that makes sense, we could go the way normal scientist do.

So Kingdoms will be (Animals, Natural, Mythical and Other)

Class

Animals: (Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, Amphibians, Aquatic, Insects)

Natural: (Plants) (Trees) (Space)

Mythical: (Dragon, Magical Horse, Ghost, Hybrid, Alien, Fairy, MWC (Magical Winged Critters), Monster, Hybrid , Mystical)

Prehistoric

Other: (Unique, Objects, Robots)

Order

Mammals: (Wolf, Cat....)

I'll redo the list to reflect this clearer.

@gabrieltaft Luciales are not deer. πŸ˜‹ They are a completely unique species to Ark with no relations to any Earth species. They are however mammals.

@Orderedchaos

Thanks πŸ˜‹ yeah I had a dilema in my head over them and a number of other species.

They can probably go under Other>unique for now until we find/makeup a better home.

There are a number of creative creatures that fall under that category and hopefully people can add their input and we can work it into a system that makes sense 😊

@gabrieltaft Yeah, there are quite a few creatures that are unique. If you have a hard time deciding on a category its always best to ask the creator. πŸ˜‰ Just doing a quick read through your list brings up a few others as well.

-Flarens are foxes not cats, stated in the description
-Iramae are more like dogs, also in the description
-Pretty sure Yukis are not wolves, they are probably closer to being a unique creature than anything else
-Kinkas don't have pouches and thus aren't marsupials
-Rousels are horses not fairies
-Balrogipuwets are goats
-Baku are mythical creatures

Mods are also a good source of info on creatures as a few of us helped write the creature descriptions. 😊

@Orderedchaos

Thanks so much, I'm going to make those changes now. I'll start looking up creators to ask about more confusing creatures.

It seems like balrogipuwets are ghosts in their Info but they def. were some sort of goat when they were living.

And if you think anyone User or Mods would be interested in contributing to this let them know. Would love any help someone would want to give.

Add a Paranormal part. That way you can put ghosts, abnormal thingummybobs and stitched up things into that catergory

@Victorythevaporeon

I like that category. I added some of the existing ones into it as subcategories.

~3. Paranormal

~~~A. (Ghost)
~~~~~~i. Classic Ghost
~~~~~~i. Possessed Objects.
~~~B. (Alien)

~~~C. (Monster)
Do you think those work?
@gabrieltaft This seems like a cool idea. If you ever need help with anything, I'm happy to contribute some stuff if necessary. 😸
('Elementla' should be 'Elemental'.)
I've been working for a while on species names for all the creatures, what do you think?
@gabrieltaft
Yep!
Also, the genuses (first word of the species name) can help when you're classifying them. Same genus = very closely related = same category!
Fun fact: the Drakomo is listed as a subspecies of the Ignis. Not quite sure why, but it made sense at the time. πŸ˜‹
Aren't Tific more like foxes than cats?
This reminds me too much of the classification of PokΓ©mon that was introduced in Gold/Silver/Crystal for breeding. It still give me a headache…
I guess that I just don't see how this would be of any use in the long run or of any purpose that it serves.
@kay_mentrae Thanks, I got cats and foxes mixed up a few times πŸ˜‹. Just put the tific in the fox category
@Megadash hm I see your point. It is def. similar to the pokemon classification but I was thinking this list would be easy way for collectors to look up pets. For instance if a new egg cave user wanted to collect insects they could look up on the list and find all the insects on egg cave.
The classifications could make searching through the archives more interesting as well.
Okay. As long as it's kept simple, I can se how it would be useful with the Archives.
