Physics or Chemistry?

Okay, hi guys, I'm going to be a sophomore in high school in the fall and I have to choose what courses I want to take next year.

My choices for science are physics and chemistry. Which one is more fun? Which one is easier? What kind of careers can I get out of these classes?

I'm taking my first AP class (AP World History) next semester too, so that's why I asked which one is easier because I don't wish to be even more stressed out.

I would really love some advice from people who have taken either of these courses! ❤️

*gasps*

This is the same exact choice my high school had us make at a scheduling event tonight. Are you by any chance in the IB program? If so, what state do you live in?

Normally for that it would go Chem Sophomore year. Physics Junior. Looks good for 4 year colleges and meh teach said it goes like Bio, Chem then Physics or at least at my school usually. Though I did it outta order. Taking Physics probably Senior year since I took Wildlife Sophomore and now in Chem. Chem is easier but a lot of memorization with ions and elements and such. Physics I believe is more math and ehh math is ick xD Might skip Physics cause don't need 4 years of Science to graduate but eeh looks good for college x3

@clay Sorry, I don't know what the IB program is. 😋 But I did just google it, and no, at my school we just go for APs. So what choice did you make?

@immortalraven Not in my school. .-. I'm finishing up my Bio course, and I can only pick Chemistry or Physics. Then the year after I pick Chem/Phys I could take Environmental/Marine Science, AP Chem, AP Physics, AP Bio, or Organic Chemistry. So you see why it's kind of a big choice.

I've heard Physics is harder and takes more work than Chem. Chem has been pretty easy so far. But other than that sorry not much help x3

@trish

I chose chemistry because in IB that let's us take AP and HL Bio, which'll help me get a job in the medical field.

I would have done both classes and only had one elective, but chose to take BOTH health science 1 and health science 2. That'll let me shadow doctors in a hospital in my junior year. 😃

Chemistry! What kind of high school do you go to? My school is pretty open to AP courses, so I took AP Environmental Science my freshman year, AP bio and Chem Honors my Sophomore year and my Chem teacher is AWESOME, she's a really good teacher (so I think i'm biased 😋) and now I'm taking AP Chemistry (the chem honors teacher teaches both honors and AP, and you can only be invited into AP Chem) and ap computer science right now in Junior year 😋

I think you should take chemistry first because I think it's a little more broad and I think certain subjects, like electrochemistry, will help you with Physics if you have the option to take it in a later year. Physics is harder though 😋

Gist of the paragraphs: Take Chemistry first 😊

@clay I'm taking an interest in the medical field also (just want to do something practical I guess) but I heard Physics looks more impressive on college applications. :/ But that is so cool that you'll get to shadow doctors.

@itslisaaa I go to a high school known for academic excellence nationally. Meaning, we're a school very focused on honor levels and administer a few thousand (3,529 in 2012) AP exams per year. XD

I don't get to take Chem AND Physics. It has to be just one of them but I am definitely leaning towards Chem now. 😊

@trish

Yeah. Most people have to do it their senior year. I'm pretty sure I'll be the first junior to do it.
