How do you feel about it?

Since creatures are identified by a number, could we please be allowed to re-use names? I've tried contacting people about names that I want, but they haven't been on in "> 1 month" (and are probably no longer playing) since they're immortals, they'll never open the name up. As a result, we're forced to come up with ridiculous names for eggs. It just doesn't make sense.

I understand that this would add confusion in the search engine, but with the ability to link to specific eggs, this should be, generally speaking, a moot point.

But this also defeats the purpose of having good names. I know that some people have a lot of good names and their cove will lose a significant amount of value if these names are suddenly available to everyone.

Sure, some names are stuck on immortal creatures in quit coves forever, but really, being creative isn't that hard. As I've found, there are plenty of good names that haven't been taken yet, you just gotta find them. 😸

Ah... the dilemma of Neopets. xD

If you don't know how it is there, trust me, obscure or not, the names are all taken. And most of the good ones are rotting.

I really can't believe how many good names are still available here. 😸 They're not too hard to find either, if you try. ^w^

@_black3333_ :
The difference is that, at Neopets, pets are ID'd by their name. Here, it's by the number beast that they are. I'm a member of Beast Keeper. They also ID a pet by their "creation number," as a result, I can name all of my creatures the same thing. It's a royal pain in the side when you do a search, but that's when you can narrow your search by beast type, genes, gender, stats, etc.

@liza200aa :
Translation: You're a person who "sells" names and you just don't want to lose your money. Yeah. Heaven forbid that you'd actually have to work….

I've never actually sold a name before. Almost did once, though it was over a year ago, and it wasn't even a actual word. (Nino, in case you're curious. Still have it in my cove.) Look through whatever you wish, I don't sell names for a profit. (Honestly, I get attached to them rather quickly) And there are also names I want that I can't have too. That being said, I don't buy them either.

So no offence, but that was somewhat offensive.

Just saying though, there are many hundreds of the same creature with the same travel. A name is something unique, something that makes your creature different, aside from just some easily forgettable number. And if you would of looked, not all of my names are spectaculitious either.

And also, as I've seen, most people who sell names for a profit also work to make their cove good too. And as I've said earlier, being creative isn't that hard, and there are plenty of good names that aren't taken yet.

So let me correct my previous post:

But this also defeats the purpose of having good names. I know that some people THAT AREN'T ME and have a lot of good names and their cove will lose a significant amount of value if these names are suddenly available to everyone.

*Continues angrily rambling about names and whatnot.*
Seriously though, don't jump to conclusions.

I usually don't name my creatures with actual words anyway. Try using words or parts of words from other languages. One of my Yamamagans is named Ugunsaplis which is some other language's word for "Fire Circle". Also, there are some good sounding naes that don't mean anything, thus are less likely to be taked. For instance I named my Neebu Leeroi. Doesn't mean anything, sounds good though.

Does it really make a difference?.....

Like liza200aa said, a lot of people like having nice names. If anybody can name their creature whatever they wanted, and reused names, that would ruin the point.

If you really want a name, then work hard for it, or find another name. I'm a month in, and i've already found plenty of good untaken names.

P.S. - Don't be rude.

Let me add this angle to the argument. Poeple keep pestering me for my Meekin's name, Michonne. I named it after my pet that inspired the mouse. If EC did this, people wouldn;t have to pester people for popular names.

I disagree with this idea. It does suck that some names are on creatures that are immortal and you can't get, but I don't want creature names to lose their value.

It is annoying but that's where the fun starts
Making up strange but cool names is awesome!

I'm sorry, but no no and no again. I know I'm biased and my selfishness is showing through here but....just please no.

Collecting names is part of the fun. Honestly, I enjoy having names like Flower and Sun more than I like having a Gobbler and onny and all that. I know that's all subjective, and I know that it can be frustrating to have names you want taken, but then you just think of better ones. And believe me, there are done good names out there. Plus, creatures can die, making it so that names can free up.

I just can't support this. I'll support no re-release and understand where people are coming from if people can understand why this is the last idea I'd ever support. πŸ˜‹

ALSO names are a good starting place for newbies IMHO. If a newbie manages to get a name people would want, he/she could get a real nice trade. There are people like me who have and still do pay CC for amazing names. They're part of the eggcave market, the way I see it. Without my name collections, I'd be so helplessly bored here.

@megadash

I don't care! I like being pestered haha
But anyway, people pester me for everything from my Solises to my tine. Should we just do away with them because people might be bold enough to ask? I just put "nothing including name is UFT" on my profile, and that tends to keep people away.

*gets on knees and prays for this never to be a thing* πŸ˜‹

Although I am thinking about having another name sale soon (select names on @allele). So if anyone is looking for names, keep an eye on that board. πŸ˜‰
