I was on omegle, and I waw chatting with this person. He sent me a link, and, like a fool, I copied it and it sent me to a /bad site/. It said it had logged my IP. I of course, immediately exited out of the link. After re-viewing the conversation, I think it might have been an FBI member trapping me or something....acorrding to google.I'm 14 and very scared. I never meant for any of this to happen. Will I get in trouble? If this is the first time it has ever happened and will only happen? I will never copy and paste a link unless I am ONE- HUNDRED percent sure it is safe. Will the FBI come here or something? #helpmplease

Can anyone offer any insight?
lynncrow • 17 February 2014 at 7:26 PM
@despair I don't think anything would happen. I don't have experience with this. The only thing I can think of to do is talk to your parents about it.
despair • 17 February 2014 at 7:28 PM
@lynncrow Thank you 😊 I will surely try to talk to them...i'll bring it up sometime D:
lynncrow • 17 February 2014 at 7:29 PM
@despair welcomelol its better to get it over with sooner rather than later
poptarts • 17 February 2014 at 7:30 PM
Even though it could of been a fake site plus Im pretty sure an FBI person wouldnt come after you unless you were doing something illegal and your also a minor. Im pretty sure nothing is going to happen to you @despair
despair • 17 February 2014 at 7:44 PM
@poptarts Thanks v.v Thats reassuring. 😊
poptarts • 17 February 2014 at 7:47 PM
No prob 😊 as long as you werent doing anything illegal then your fine@despair
despair • 17 February 2014 at 8:01 PM
@poptarts Ok. What do you mean by illegal? xD
poptarts • 17 February 2014 at 8:08 PM
lol I dont think Im allowed to say it on here like selling or buying illegal plants (if you catch my drift...) or if you smuggle them, stealing peoples ID`s or credit cards hiding illegal immigrants, killing someone ect. Thats pretty much things that cold get you in trouble@despair
despair • 17 February 2014 at 9:13 PM
@poptarts Oh yeah xD Thank you😊 I just really hope nothing happens v.v And yeah....we have to be as discreet as possible xD
cirrus • 17 February 2014 at 9:18 PM
@despair Well, I'm 14 too, but I doubt that would happen. You kids and your silly imaginations. X3 But I don't know, maybe he's trying to track you down or hack your computer or something. 😈 Probably not though. If you have anti-virus software, I wouldn't be worried. 😉
despair • 17 February 2014 at 9:31 PM
@skittlejg Erm..im not sure if you got what I meant by /bad site/. An illegal site.
cirrus • 17 February 2014 at 9:40 PM
@despair I didn't say bad site anywhere in that post. XD
despair • 17 February 2014 at 9:45 PM
@skittlejg What? I think your confused on what the initial topic is about.
cirrus • 17 February 2014 at 10:32 PM
@despair Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't understand what you meant by bad site. XDDDWell honestly, I think it's a little ridiculous. 😋 I doubt the FBI will come after you, and if they do, they aren't evil (I think). If they actually tracked you down, they would understand that you didn't know what you were doing. Also, I'm pretty sure (in the U.S.A.) you can't get in trouble for going to illegal sites. You can only get in trouble for buying stuff from or running/owning sites like that.
despair • 17 February 2014 at 10:36 PM
@skittlejg Thanks. I guess it was the googling stuff afterwards that made me scared xD
poptarts • 17 February 2014 at 10:58 PM
@despair Look up fake FBI warnings on google and they will give you pics of some and you can see if any of them looked like the one you got
disneyland • 18 February 2014 at 10:18 PM
omegle is so bad in the first place xD At least they have a moderated section nowadays. I don't trust anyone or any link on omegle~
puffleduck • 19 February 2014 at 8:47 PM
@despair Hello!I promise you it is not the FBI.Some loser is just trying to scare you.The real FBI has better things to do than try to "scam" people on the internet. They have more serious matters to attend to, and wouldn't be so immature as to try and get you to go to a naughty site and encourage bad behavior.Don't worry about it!But never EVER click on a link you do not recognize, especially from a site as shady as omegle! Relax! 😊
iv24 • 20 February 2014 at 11:06 AM
@despair What do you mean by "bad site"? I don't think it's possible for someone to get your IP just for entering a site (but it depends what site tho), but you can get a virus.
disneyland • 20 February 2014 at 8:10 PM
@iv24 - omegle is a site where you chat with random strangers. The site itself won't give you any viruses or anything, but people on there are untrustworthy a lot of the time and can send you links that can cause viruses~
iv24 • 21 February 2014 at 7:17 AM
@faerie_eclair_mallow I know what Omegle is, I was asking what site the other person has given.
despair • 21 February 2014 at 7:56 AM
@iv24 @faerie_eclair_mallow The site wasn't a site with a virus. It was just an /inappropriate illegal site/. Not sure if I could say it on eggcave xD
karamel • 21 February 2014 at 8:38 AM
@despair Basically what @puffleduck said. 😉Never go on Omegle; most (if not all) people are obscene elderlies. 😋 You can always use something like shrinktheweb.com (which basically shows you a screenshot of the website without you having to actually go to that website) before visiting a link you don't recognise. c:

@despairThe Federal Bureau of Investigation has much more matters regarding international criminals, kingpins and terrorists. They wouldn't just like waste their time in tricking a minor online. It might have been inspired out of something else for someone to do such a sick trick. Did they reveal themselves as the FBI, or did they warn you after you told them that you visited that link? The FBI work in secure protocols. They can directly request the server network files from omegle, and can immediately open up all chat logs kept by omegle, and those which are going on. It is reassured that terrorists and criminals don't speak via Internet Networking Sites such as Facebook, Omegle etc. Nothing is there to worry about. It was quite a bad prank to throw on people, but rest assured that the site cannot do anything more than injecting a malware or malicious script into your computer. If that had happened so, an antivirus warning would have popped up (if the software was up-to-date, registered and efficient)
