The Survivors

The moon rose slowly, just visible among the tall pines. Andy and I stood still as the gentle breeze flowed past us. The wind had been going on and off all night. As the full moon moved to the tip of the tallest tree, I realized how easy it must have been to spot us. Andy and I knew we had to move some time or another, but we didn't exactly want to.

The forest was eerily silent as we stood there. Eyelids drooping, I began to feel drowsy. If only I could just run home and bury my face in my pillow.... But, how do you run home when there's no home to run to?
"Come on, let's keep going," Andy urged, interrupting my thoughts, "We'll be seen if we don't!"

When I looked up from the ground, I could see that my brother was already far ahead of me, moving at a brisk pace. He was right. Sighing, I followed him through the prickly forest of pine needles. Arms and legs scratched and scraped from the trees surrounding me, a tear fell from my cheek.

I heard a rustle from behind me, and I jumped. I realized that I'd lost sight of Andy. I looked back, figuring it was another one of his practical jokes."Haha, very funny, Andy. I thought you said we should hurry, not play tricks on each other."My comment wasn't responded with the usual, 'Sarah, you've got to admit, I got you good,' but instead, a deep, throaty growl. My eyes widened. Where did Andy go, and what is THIS?!

I took off running blindly through the pines, not looking back to catch a glimpse of my pursuer."Andy! Where are you, Andy? Andy!!" I shouted, forgetting the desperate need to stay silent. "Help! Andy! Anyone? Help!" I started to panic, not realizing that our true enemy could now hear me and pinpoint my location.

I managed to scramble up an old conifer, the thing clawing at my heels. Once I was somewhat safely perched upon a tree branch, I peeked down below. It was a large wolf, silvery fur shining in the moonlight. I breathed a sigh of relief between panting. Just one wolf. There aren't any packs around here. I'm safe ... for now.

After a long night of waiting out my foe, spotted sunlight peered down at me. Glimpsing to the pine's base, I saw that the wolf had left. I climbed down the tree, somehow avoiding falling flat on my face. Once I got down, I saw what a mess I was. I saw scrapes running down my arms and scabs covering my legs. Groaning, I suddenly felt like my body was just one giant bruise. Pushing away my pain, I pulled out my pocket compass.

I could treat injuries later. First, I had to find where my rambunctious twin ran off to. Glancing at my compass, I saw that I was facing north. Good. The same direction Andy and I were going before we got separated. Putting it back in my pocket, I strode away from the conifer. Not too long after I had begun running, I saw a column of smoke rising above the trees. Assuming it was Andy, I ran faster, heading in its direction. Little did I know that I was right and wrong at the same time.

Stepping out of the trees, I emerged into a small clearing. It looked like someone had set up a camp here. A fire pit held lit logs, a pot of a putrid smelling substance boiling in a pot over the fire, a tiny stream ran through the clearing, and a small, tattered animal hide tent which crouched in the corner. I didn`t see Andy anywhere, or anyone for that matter. I picked up a bucket that was carelessly tossed on the ground and filled it with water from the stream, and then I doused the fire. No use in starting a forest fire.

I was about to leave when a sound emanated from the tent. I hadn`t bothered to look inside it earlier. I turned back toward it, wondering if whatever that was inside that tent was friend or foe. Cautiously I crept over to the tent. I peered inside, it was cluttered and messy. I saw an un-made bed, a few old lanterns, and a small stock of food. Nothing out of the ordinary. Until I looked into the far corner, there I saw something I never thought I would`ve had to see.

There was a boy, gagged and tied, lying on in the dirt unconscious. His face was dirty and covered with blood. I figured whoever did this was close by, but I wasn`t just going to leave this boy tied up in the tent.
I grabbed the bucket and filled it with water again.

Then I grabbed a cloth and I began to wash the boy`s face and clean out his wounds. We weren`t allowed to talk or interact with anyone, otherwise we would be breaking the rules the other Survivors had made us swear to follow. Guess I can`t keep promises.

I figured Clarke would be furious at me when he found out, but I decided he wouldn’t be so angry when I explained what had happened to this poor boy and ask if he could maybe become a Survivor himself. I continued to wash the boy’s face more until it was almost completely clean.

I froze. The boy … the boy was Andy!? I didn`t even recognize my own twin brother at first because his face was so dirty and blood stained!? A sense of fear invaded my thoughts. I had never seen Andy like this, I shouldn`t have seen Andy like this! My mind burned with only two questions, how and why.

My mind started going blank, the only feeling I had left was fear. I had always thought Andy was invincible, the strong one of us. I began to doubt all I had ever believed to be true. As I stared blankly at the horrific scene that lay before my very eyes, Andy started to come to, snapping me out of my distressed state of mind.

I took the bucket of water and dumped what was left in it on Andy`s head. About five minutes later he was conscious but still a bit disoriented. “Andy are you okay? What happened?” I asked. “Yes I`m fine, and never mind that for now. We have to get out of here before my attacker returns!” he demanded.

So he was attacked. Now more questions formed, who was he attacked by? Why was he attacked? What did he do to get attacked? I didn`t have much time to ponder these questions until Andy was on his feet and moving. I got up and followed him. We continued heading north. Not long after we had entered the barrier of the trees, there was a loud, angry shout of hate that came from the clearing.

I looked back. In the clearing there was a man. Andy saw him too; his eyes grew wide with fear and terror. “Sarah, Sarah we have to go! Now!” he harshly whispered to me so the man could not hear us. The man searched around frantically for something, or someone. Andy and I hastened our pace, almost jogging but not quite. The man had left from the clearing and headed south. I was glad, because I didn’t even meet him, but I never wanted to see him again. Andy and I managed to get another mile or two in before the sun started to lower itself in the sky, creating a beautiful red, orange, yellow, blue and purple sunset.

Birds settled into their nests in the trees, bats and night bugs began to wake. In the distance we could see the Amalysian Mountains, and The Barrens. We were supposed to have arrived at The Barrens yesterday. By now the other Survivors would be sending out a few search troops to come and find us. “So, Andy. What happened earlier with that man?” I asked him.

“Don’t mind it Sarah, it`s not important.” he flatly told me. “No. It is important Andy! What did you do that would make than man attack you!?” “Sarah, why are we constantly being attacked by everyone!? Huh!?” he snapped back at me. As I digested those words, I came up with no answer. I started to cry. He was right, we were always on the run. Always being hunted down and attacked. We had no idea why either, we had done nothing wrong.

What could two 14 year old orphans possibly do wrong? I remembered that we never knew our parents. The rest of the Survivors that knew them say they were great people, and that they loved us very much. I knew the Survivors were our only close family friends we had. Their names will always be close to my heart, for they were some of the only people that didn’t want to attack Andy or I. They were being hunted down too, all for the same reason as we were. Whatever that reason actually was.

Andy and I made camp by a river just before the sun set completely. The stars shone brightly over us. I began to drift off to sleep; Andy stayed up and kept watch. Soon I fell into the clutch of my weariness, and I drifted off. The next morning I woke up and Andy was missing again. “Dang it Andy! Where did you go now?!” I asked myself. I splashed my face with water and set out once again to locate my brother.

I know it`s alot, and i still plan on writing more ^3^ hope you liked it

That's pretty good!
I don't post stories of mine, since I usually don't finish them.
I only share them with a friend of mine -w-
Most are pretty violent, and have a lot of profanity, since I usually do it in the perspective of a high schooler<derp

@baileyamundsen14

First, unedited chapter of my story.

When Danielle and Stephen King woke up, they could tell something was not right. Even Stephen's pet raven, Nevermore could tell that something was wrong. When the kids ran into the kitchen to have breakfast, they found something terrible. Their parents were gone and a lady dressed in a coat and scarf made of some critically endangered animal was standing in the doorway. “My name is Agatha and I am your beautiful aunt.”, she said with faint malice in her voice. “We never did have the pleasure of meeting.” Now eat your asparagus cheesecake and come to the car.” Asparagus cheesecake is one of the worst things you can possibly eat. On my 12th Birthday, my parents went to get me some cake from a local shop called “Let Them Eat Cake”. The store had been overrun by vicious French weasels and the only cake left in stock was asparagus cheesecake. We purchased that and brought it to my party. I am sad to say that all of my friends and I were sick for days and could not attend school. For this reason, I got an F in the Vietnamese art of lockpicking. So, I understood how the children felt when they looked down at their plates of could, foul cheesecake and realized that they might never see their parents again.

@baileyamundsen14 Repost ok?i've posted a part of my story for contest earlier and decide to post it completely only after critics been made.
Your story keeps in tension and that's good, but I can't judge untill it's finished.
Here it is mine. sorry for my language i'm not the native speaker ❤️
The greatest treasure:
In a house where were no place for faerie tales a girl lived. There were only serious books in the bookshelves, which seemed to be endless. A girl, her name was Gala, liked reading more then all in her life and till she reach sixteen she had read most part of her library.
Gala's best friend-Lana,was born in a sea coast in a family of a sailor. To all her questions as "Where is Dad?" or "Why he stays so long in the sea" her mother told her the stories about the Underwater kingdom, the mermaids and sea dragons.
So while Gala stood firmly on the ground, Lana was in the clouds.
Sitting on a seaboard and watching the waves washing the sand, Lana often spoke about talking fish or mermaids she seem to saw in the rocks.
And Gala always answered that fish couldn't talk and mermaids didn't exist. However there were no friends closer then they were.
One day a stranger came to their city. He wasn't look neither like merchant nor like
tourist. He was tall and weared a blue felt hat and a long black coat. Wherever he went he
asways took with him the heart-shaped box, enveloped in red velvet.People asked him about the thing, hidden in the box and his only answer was that that was the greatest treasure and he would only give it to women he'll fall in love with.
Although he wasn't attractive, hundrets women and girls from all arount tried to won
his attention. His age was impossible to determine by his face. His hair was grey but he had eyes and smile of a young man. He was like blank paper and every women could drew a on it a features of a perfect men.His inscrutability bribed their hearts but besides he had a weapon he had used to manipulate them- the curiosity.
- I saw him in a public library today- Gala told her friend- He is tall and self-confident. He has a clever eyes and absolutely enchanting smile. He must have been
scientist and his treasure is the Cure from all the diseases.
- I saw him sitting on the rocks near the sea- Lana replied- I haven't seen his face,
but he looked dreamy and, I guess, his treasure is the Essence of Eternal Youth he'll give to his beloved one. Is he beautiful?
- I've found him interesting- Gala said.-But you have to know there's no such thing as the Essence of Eternal Youth.
-The same to the Cure of all the diseases.-Lana replied
The mystery heart-shaped box had borned thousands of theories. Among those two there were people who thought that it contains the biggest diamond in the world, or a magical stick which could turn anything in gold, or The Essence of Power that made anybody obey it's owner after drinking only a single drop, or even a magical lamp with a real genie. Hovewer all of these theories were far from the truth.

@baileyamundsen14
The rumours said that the Stranger would give his box to one women or girl he'll chose. They said he'll make a decision in three days at midday in the city square.
So three days later a huge crowd flooded the square. There were women of all ages: young came
for opportunity of successful marriage, middle-aged wanted good match for their daughters ( not counting those who looked on a Stranger with tender look themselves).Old women came driven by curiosity- events like that were rare in their city. When the clock in a city hall
punched noon, the Stranger climed the pedestral which was usually used for announces.
-I'm glad to welcome you there-he started.- I have only four clauses. Those who disagree may leave now- that'll be better for all of us.
-The first one.-silence covered the square- My future wife have to leave her family and friends, and neither return nor talk to them untill I allow her to do so.
The crowd grumbled and a half of the present leaved.
- The second one: you should never ask me the questions. If you ask any question you'll leave.
And a third of the present leaved after that words.
- The third one- you should never look in the box without my permission.
And all curious women and adventuresses leaved the square. Stranger looked around- only twenty women stood in front of him.
- So the last one- he smiled- you should never lie to me.
He looked at those who left -five women left after his speech. Beside Lana and Gala, there was Carina-the mayor's daughter, apothecary assistant Elena and the girl who worked in grossery, San-I guess that was how she was called.
-Now follow me girls. For the next ten days you'll live in my mansion.-he paused- The mansion that mayor graciously left for me.-he bowed to Carina and she blushed.-Each of you'll have private appartment and will be provided with all important so you are allowed to take only one thing with you.You are forbidden to go farther then the mansion's garden and those who will be caught will say goodbuy to me forever. I'll talk to you and watch you and in the tenth day I'll chose my bride. You may bid farewell to your friends and relatives but at midnight my people come for you.
Lana touched Gala's hand and asked her:
-Are you sure you really want this? In eleven hours and a half we'll be parted forever.
-Lets say goodbuy quickly to our folks and meet in our place within an hour.
-I'll come for you- Gala said.
When she opened the door she saw Lana and her mother hugging and whispering about something. None of them cried, but Lana's mother looked nervous.
-Take care yourself and remember what I'd told to you.-She hugged and kissed her daughter for the last time and Lana went outside.
-What did she told to you?-Gala asked.
-It's a secret.
-I thought we have no secrets from each other.
-Except for this one.
-Ok. What are you taking with you?
Lana took out a small wrap from her pocket. There was a small shiny sharp piece of quartz.
-A rock? You take a piece of rock with you?-Gala exclaimed
-This is the rock my Dad give to me when I was three. That's all I have from him.-she said.-And this stone is magical-she added in a whisper.
-Sure-Gala said sceptically.
-You decide to believe me or not. What is your luggage?
-A book.My Book of Answers- it was old threadbare book of aphorisms,Gala used to open at
random page when she need in answer.
-Ask her.
-Ask what?
-What would happen to us?
Gala opened the book and read:
"You are free to chose your destiny"
-Whatever this means- Lana laughed.
That hours was one of the happiest they shared together in their life. They swam and gather mussels to fry them on fire later. They have been acting like children till midnight when two man came to separate them forewer.
The first day girls spent sleeping. They spent a lot of time settling themselves in new habitations, freshening themselves up and having late supper.Anxiety and excitement kept them from sleeping so they woke up in the next day's evening when the screams reached their ears from the corridor.
-A seed?!A seed is your treasure?!-they recognised San's voice.
-What are you talking about?
-A seed in your box. An ordinary seed.
-First of all not ordinary. It was very hard to get. I've just wonder what did you expected to find there?-man's voice was calm and confident as usual-A diamond? A magical stick? If you were attentive and drew attention on the shape and size of you'll realize that nothing bigger then your nail could be hidden there. And now, my dear,it's time for you to leave.
They heard she sniffed scornfully and the clatter of her heels.
-I know you all have heard this. Nice news to you -one rule less. But if this all not interests you any more, you may leave now. You're welcome-the door is open.-the man said when sounds died away.
But noone came out...

post the rest a bit later today

Next day walking on the garden girls have heard the conversation. They were prohibited from talking each other but they were allowed to walk together.
Passing the fountain they heard Carina asking the Stranger:
- I counted on another treasure and, to tell the truth, I'm there only for that. But i can't leave not asking you- what makes this seed so precious?
-I appreciate your honesty -he answeres- and just because you're leaving I'll answer to you. This is the seed from the most beautiful flower in the world. It blossoms once in one hundred years in midnight and it's scent can't be compared with any aromas in Universe. Some call it Angel's Tears. and you know why? The one who smell it would fall in eternal sleep.
- And that's your treasure?
-No -the man answered.

@baileyamundsen14 Your story is good! 😊 The only thing I have to say is that when someone new speaks, it has to be on a new line. For example, you wrote:

“Don’t mind it Sarah, it`s not important.” he flatly told me. “No. It is important Andy! What did you do that would make than man attack you!?” “Sarah, why are we constantly being attacked by everyone!? Huh!?”

But it should be:

“Don’t mind it Sarah, it`s not important.” he flatly told me.

“No. It is important Andy! What did you do that would make than man attack you!?”

“Sarah, why are we constantly being attacked by everyone!? Huh!?”

@baileyamundsen14
This only have been heard by Lana and apothecary assistant - Gala prefered reading to walking. Elena touched slightly Lana's hand and they went to their rooms.
And thet evening Lana had found a letter near her door.
"I know this flower. And I know the remedy agains it. If someone who smelled this scent would drink the water from the Starlight sea shell in first 13 minutes, he would be saved. The water have to be gathered from the moomlight road in the place it had been found.
P.S. I know writing this I'm loosing my chance with this man but I guess we don't fit each other anyway. So good luck to you all. Elena."
Elena had left the next morning not bidding farewell to anybody. She knew the Stranger would knew about the letter so there was no reason to lie.
ThAat night Lana slipped out the mansion and went to the shore. She'd found a flat rock, scratched a letter "S" with the piece of quartz and throughed it in the sea. When she returned the Stranger waited her in her room.
- I know about the letter and about your reson to be there, and as you can see I 've noticed your absence- he said smiling- But I'm not going to expell you. Please sit-he invited her to sit on the edge of the bed as that was the only furniture in Lana's room.
- You see- he continued- I'm an ordinary man. I'm not a villain or magician. I'm more like philosopher who 've found the way to marry the faithfull woman. And all things happening here now is the part of my sceme.
- How are you going to marry her if she would die?- Lana asked.
-I never said it would be simple- he said with a calm voice- You've broken three rules from four but I'm going to forget it because I'm intrigued. Tell me what you are going to do and I'll allow you to finish it.
- Ok- Lana said.-When I was three the wave took me away. My parents was desperately seeking the way to bring me back. My father had spent all the time in the shore hoping the sea would return me. He've tald later that one day a woman with green hair sat next to him. He'd told she had scales on her legs and she breathed with her neck but mother haven't believed that story.
That woman gave him the rock. The rock I'm holding now. She told him he have to go on the shore for seven nights and write one letter of his wish on the flat rock, and through this rocks in the sea. If he could put his wish in seventh letters at eight's day morning he'll have what he asked for. But as soon as he reach 40 and 4 years the sea would took him away forever.
People said I've just came out from the sea and talked all the time about the Underwater kingdome, the mermaids and sea dragons but all have thought it's mine imagination that helps me to overcome the stress.
Mother haven't known about the deal the Dad 'd made -he was so happy that forgot to tell her. I've tald her but she hadn't believed me.She'd rather believe he 've found another woman overseas then he isn't in this world any more and there's no way for her to meet him again.Hope. That's make us living.
-So you've decided to arrange this deal tonight- said the Stranger
- Yes. And when I'm 44 my Mom would likely to be gone. And it's doubtfull I'll ever have children.
-So what are you going to ask?
-The same thing my father asked.-said Lana
The days passed and Gala became more and more distant from her friend. While Lana tried not to think about it.
-She's not your friend any more- the Stranger kept saing- Just try to take that. She'd made her choice. Think if your efforts worth her.
-So say her not to smell the flower-asked Lana
-I can't- it'll ruin my sceme.
So every night Lana'd made her ritual ssaying herself she act's the only right way.
At the eights day the Stranger gathered girls in the hall and said as Gala satisfied all his requirements she would be his bride. He gave her a box and a flower pot and said she had to plant immediately and in midnight she'll have a surprise.
He looked at Lana and seeing reproach in her face added:
-Resist temptation. Lana could stay till the morning.
And Gala thought he meaned the restriction on talking with her friend...

Ok, here is my story. It has three people's point of view, (Alyssa, Athemias and Bianca) They are wizards that each are from a different school. Athemias- His school is storm Bianca- Her school is flame Alyssa- Her school is frost
_______________________________________

Alyssa:

Alyssa stood at the edge, waiting. She knew her brother wouldn’t float back up, for Attemis couldn’t fly. But Alyssa wished more than anything that her beloved big brother would come back up. Now the sadness was fading, and anger was charging into her. “I swear,” Alyssa thought, “I will avenge my brother’s death!” Now who would teach her the spells and enchantments of the world? Her dead parents? Or her 9 year old sister Mable? She would bring Fabian to justice for killing Attemis and the parents she had never gotten to know.

Where had he fled, the sorry wimp?
Fabian had offered Alyssa a job, for he knew well Attemis’s job wasn’t paying the rent. Alyssa, in her foolish selflessness, had followed Fabian to his house and let him try to push her over the cliff. “Why would he want me to fall off the edge and not Attemis?” The pain rushed back in at the saying of his name, but the darkness of this challenging mystery was too much to give up. Attemis had followed Alyssa and saved her from being killed, but at the cost of his own life. Now Alyssa thought about Mable.
“How will I explain this to Mable?” she said aloud.
“You don’t have to.” Mable managed. Alyssa turned around to see Mable, partly hidden behind a tree.
“Oh, Mable! You shouldn’t have had to see that!” Alyssa exclaimed, hugging her.
“It’s better than you having to tell me!” They both cried as they spoke.
“I wish he was here. I miss him already.”
“Me too, Mable, me too.”
“Now it’s left to us to care for Sorlen.” Mable told Alyssa.
Sorlen! Alyssa had completely forgotten about him! The poor parrot! Attemis was supposed to feed him. He couldn’t now. Sorlen was their parents’ old parrot, who by now was probably 20 years old. No one knew how the bird had survived, but those orange, purple and green feathers weren’t getting any fainter. Sorlen could talk, (but he rarely did) and when he talked, he was very annoying! Sorlen had always favored Attemis and their dad, and no one knew why. Sorlen wouldn’t let anyone else touch him. Alyssa didn’t know why they don’t just sell the bird and get some gold, but Attemis loved the bird because it reminded him of his father, Roland. Now Sorlen reminded Alyssa of Attemis. She couldn’t sell him now. She was on a mission. She had to find Fabian. But Fabian was a sorcerer. How would she find him? His dark magic would allow him to go anywhere he wanted, at any time. But Alyssa didn’t care. She would find him. She had to. So, after grabbing Sorlen, they set off towards Fabian’s cottage just west of the Dark Sea. Little did she know, Attemis was still alive, held hostage by Fabian.

@baileyamundsen14 All that time Gala tried to avoid her friend and then the eighth day came. At midnight Lana ran away to the seashore. She looked at the moonlight road trying to find the place it touched the shore. And there, in sparkling white sand the sea shell. The bluish inner light came from it,the shell cover was shining from the water and salt hadn't yet spoiled it's beauty. The girl gathered the water and ran back at full speed. She had the minutes left.
The door in Gala's room was closed and Lana ran outside and broke the window with her free hand. The first thing she saw was the flower, the most beautiful of all she'd ever seen. It's petals shined with all colours of rainbow. It's shape was similar to rose but there were no petal which had broken it's form.
"It must have had a wonderfull smell"-she thought for a second and then pulled herself up.
Paying no attention to pain and blood flowing from her injured hand, she rushed to a brethless body of her friend and poured the water in her mouth. Gala regained consciousness immediately but seeing her friend bleeding she neither asked her about what had happened nor tried to helped her. Instead of that she called for help and left the room straight after.
The Stranger camed to Lana's room again that night. He took her injured hand, covered with bandages, and said the words that had left with her forever:
- The greatest treasure is real friendship and faithfullness. You have both parts but your friend has only the second one. I'm going to teach her the first. Train her to be responsive like you are. I'll allow her to write you a year later, when my experiment would come to end.
-What experiment?
-To rise the love in a soil not appropriate for that.- he smiled mysteriously and left her room.
After year passed Lana's mother brought her daughter a letter. Lana opened it with one hand- her damaged hand had became non-working. Catching sympathy in mother's eyes Lana said:
- Don't worry about me. My hand would be healed when I become a mermaid.
Her mother shaked head in disbelief- she, like many others decided her daughter was off her centre after her separation with Gala.
Lana read aloud:
"-I'm OK. Dietrih had tald me everything about that night. I'm gratefull to you but you should understand -I couldn't broke the rules. The only thing still makes as wonder- what had you written on that flat rocks? That gives us no rest."
Lana looked at her mother.
- "Save her"- they said all together.

-THE END-

@izziebee1017 I don't know why but I've always loved stories that hold you in the clutch of suspense and it just wants to make you keep on reading it until you finally find out the conclusion, the mystery, the end, the final piece of the puzzle that leaves you so awe struck and astounded you just wanna read it again to re-live the adventure!! THATS my kind of story. 😊
