If you are replying to someone, you should ping them. Otherwise, they won't know that you've done so. To ping someone, either cick the bell icon under their username in the forums, or type an @ followed by their username (e.g. @sparklefox ). You can only ping up to five people per post. Sorry if you knew this already.

You can get more friends by accepting random friend requests (if you do so, it's best to mention it on your profile) and posting on the forums often. That way, you'll slowly become more well-known, and more requests will be sent. Sorry for the crap explanation or whatever, but I was kinda in a hurry.
