Why do you use pings?

Hi! I'm still kinda new so I was wondering why people ping lots of others when they start a forum? Is it random, or do you ping specific people?
I just want more attention for my creature suggestion, so was hoping for some tips.

@idatealizardboy You ping someone when you want to be sure they see you topic or post. You can only ping up to 5 people in one post. You ping whoever you want. 😊 You can ping friends, random users or moderators.
