A sound soul dwells within a sound mind and a sound body.

The Technical School for Reaper Armsmasters. In short...the "Shibusen". Operating from the deepest recesses of all the corners of the world, in order to prevent the second coming of the Demon God, who would bring about the destruction of all of existence and envelop mankind within spirals of madness, the Reaper established this agency of weapons and those that would be trained to wield them.

Moving On! Well, it's an organisation to protect justice, but...why is it a trade school of all things? Well who cares. All right then, I guess you'll just have to see if it'll work out!
******************************************************************

Tawny:

The rectangular classroom was quite plain and the windows were evenly distributed between the two walls. The black board at the front was blank and the desk beside it was empty. I brushed a few locks of tawny hair out of my eyes and looked around the room. Girls and boys of my age were gathered here with either "MIESTER" or "WEAPON" pinged to their clothes.

I was a miester, a girl able to control and fight with a weapon to help him/her become a death scythe. Pretty simple but tricky. I stood alone, leaning against the wall and waiting patiently for the teacher to come. As if on cue, a lady opened the oak door and walked in. She wore a long sleeved black top and long black jeans. Her golden hair surrounded a fair face with amazing honey brown eyes.

"Welcome students to the DWMA!" She said happily. "Today is your first day and I am your teacher. My name is Rachel and I am a weapon. The DWMA is the greatest school for training students to wield weapons and help them become Death Scythes. Now, for our first practice, please could you get yourselves into pairs or little groups."

Instantly, many students grabbed a weapon or their friends into a group. I stood alone for a minute before Lady Rachel carried on. "Now when you get into pairs or groups, weapons and miesters must match each others soul wavelengths by the miester looking at them and analyzing which weapon they should have. When you have done this, the weapon must try to turn into their weapon form and the miester must handle them. Okay now, you try!"

The buzz of chatter rose and the miesters and weapons started to practice. I stood alone for a minute, still leaning against the wall then a shadow cast over me and someone was opposite.

I looked up to a see a boy with orange spikes falling around his face, his red eyes calm and his hands in his pockets. He wore a plain white top with a black jacket over it and long black trousers. He wore a grin and a "WEAPON" badge gleamed on his chest.

"Hey." he said in a calm voice. I smiled back, pushing myself off the wall. I looked at the boy and searched for his soul wavelength. I found a soul, I could see it, a round soul of a light shade of blue, a bit rough around the edges but quite calm and at times reckless.

I looked around at the other students. Some of them had managed to fully transform, some had managed to transform parts of themselves whilst others were having troubles with their transformations. Looking back at the boy, I waited for him to try.

He sighed, closed his eyes in concentration and stood still for a moment, as if asleep. Then, his red eyes opened with a sudden jolt and around his feet, a kind of blue flame was circling. Then it rose and he became a weapon, a sword I recognised. He landed against the wall, hilt upwards, gleaming in the daylight.

Lady Rachel walked over to us and examined his transformation, clapping and smiling. "A Chisa Katana! That's a nice sword. And I suppose you will be able to use different modes for your transforming?"

"Yes I have five modes." replied the sword which was the boy. I made a movement towards it and Lady Rachel noticed, an encouraging smile spreading over her face. I came up to the sword leaning against the wall and reached for the hilt. Taking the case off, my hands burned a little at first but I adjusted my soul wavelength to the boy and the burning edged away.

The blade shone a light blue colour and I let go, the figure of the boy now forming and there he was, hands in his pockets, his grin set on me. I blushed a little and looked away, Lady Rachel going over to examine another pair.

A girl with curly short dirty blonde hair and pale skin about six foot four and covered in freckles was facing a boy with black hair and deep jade green eyes. tanned skin and a muscular build to him. Lady Rachel started chatting to them about their practice.

"What's your name?" asked the boy.

"Tawny. Tawny Brave." I said. "What's yours?"

"Hmm..." he sighed closing his eyes for a moment and thinking. "To be honest, none of my old masters really gave me a name."

"How about Flame?" I suggested quietly. "Those blue flames you conjured interested me a little."

He smiled and nodded. "So you want to be partners then?"

"Yes." I replied smiling.

He returned my grin with his own, taking my hand and shaking it. "So from this moment on, you and me are a team. That's cool."

I didn't know what to say so I just grinned happily and shook his hand back, pleasure filling every inch of me. Finally, someone was there for me, someone I could trust.

Silver:

I stood facing Tawny on the other wall waiting for someone it was impossible to find a Weapon. Lady Rachel hadn't realized me until Blade came. Blade nodded but never said a word. I looked into his soul and I waited. He had transformed into a Katana but it didn't seem like it was there. I switched to his soul wavelength. He transformed. Lady Rachel was finally moving on to us. "Ah, a Matter Katana (Hopefully That Exist) I never seen such a katana." Blade had switched to human form as I let go of the katana

We both sighed as the teacher left. "Well nice katana-" I acted like I burped even though I didn't. "Afraid of saying something? So am I. Anyway what's your name?" Blade asked quietly. "Silver. Yours?" I said quietly. "Blade. It's a pleasure to meet you." We both shook hands and then we never said a word. I finally nudged him again "Can you see across those heads? It looks like a boy and a girl." He laughed and then we sat down

Blade:
'In all my life I thought I would have been a loner' I thought. Silver started laughing so hard as he looked as one tried to transform. I then nudged him to be quiet.

Carylinn Redding looked quizzically at the weapon she'd brought with her to the class. They had arrived here in Death City together, not many days ago. The young man, roughly five years her senior, was one of the older students in the room by the looks of it. She felt like one of the youngest by comparison. Carylinn made up her mind to act her most mature, then she poked the dark-haired weapon's shoulder.

"Well? Waddaya say? Wanna show off that spiffy gunmetal?" The girl asked.

With dark amber eyes, he stared back at her. With a nonchalant tone he replied, "I don't really think that's a good idea. Someone will probably recognize me. You know they keep track of whose hands are bloody, right?"

"You'll have to transform eventually, you know?" The girl looked away, trying to hide her slight shyness. She still barely knew this guy.

"Fair enough..." He murmured, clearly having hoped to put off transforming in front of people.

Carylinn felt bad, understanding that he must be a little apprehensive about it. Before she could say anything else, Requiem transformed with ease into a beautiful antique Schuetzen rifle. The weapon had an extremely elegant form, and Carylinn found herself marveling as she had the first and only other time she'd seen him in weapon form. In the reflection of the polished metal, she saw the faintest trace of a crooked grin on Requiem's face. It brought a broad smile to hers.

Suddenly she was broken from her admiration - with slight embarrassment - as Lady Rachel approached. The face the teacher wore made her antsy, but she did her best to feign confidence. Fake it till you make it, her father had said.

"Yes...?" Carylinn looked up slightly to meet the teacher's eyes. They were stern.

"I'd heard that weapon would find it's way into my classroom. You're not worried about using a weapon like that?" Lady Rachel asked very seriously. Carylinn had a feeling she was referring to either the "curse", or the weapon's "record of consuming human souls", or maybe just the weapon being notoriously synonymous with crime. She didn't believe the first two were true, though she hadn't gotten the guts to ask.

"I'm not worried at all." Carylinn smiled broadly, mostly because she had managed to sound as sure as she felt about the weapon; after all, their soul's wavelengths matched. She would talk to Requiem when he was ready. When they grew as partners.

"Well. If you're certain..." Lady Rachel eyed Requiem warily, and his face in the reflection of the gunmetal was cold. "He was allowed to train here, so I can't stop you if you're determined to pair up..."

Hey no problem Poe!
_______________________

Flame:

After talking to the girl and boy, Lady Rachel approached another group and after that, a boy nearby transformed. I gasped in shock at the elegant gun that glimmered, handled by a girl. Lady Rachel then talked to that group quietly but I had heard rumors of the gun. It was the one that consumed it's miesters soul and was a cursed weapon.

I grinned and muttered, "Cool. There's someone around here worth my time."

I looked at Tawny who had shrank into the wall, a mixture of confusion and terror in her green eyes. She trembled slightly and stared at the boy who transformed back into his human self. "Hey." I said to her.

"Huh?" She jerked around to face me, the look in her eyes becoming more of a confused look than terrified. "Wh-what is it?"

"Don't get yourself stressed over someone's transformation." I said. Grinning again, showing my pointed teeth, I carried on. "He's just an ordinary weapon. He can't be a bad person if Lord Death let him train here right? That means he's not as big a threat everyone else makes out of him."

I turned away, back to the other people and slid down to sit on the floor, the back of her beautiful plain white dress against the creamy wall. "Maybe you're right." she said, her expression softening and her posture relaxing.

"Hey, Tawny." I called to her again, squatting down beside her. "C'mon. I'll show you my other transformations beside the Katana Sword Mode." I reached out for her hand and a crooked smile played on my face.

"Sure." she grabbed my hand and I lifted her up, standing up myself. She smiled, concentrating now on the partnership and soul wavelengths than the boy with the cursed transformation. I just hoped he'd be as cool as he sounds.

"What's so funny?" asked Tawny. "You're laughing."

"Don't worry about it." I said closing my eyes and smiling. "Anyway, ready to see my Flame Eruption Mode?"

"Ready." she replied smiling, a determined and happy look on her face. There was something about Tawny that I couldn't quite get. Like her soul. It was like she had two personalities. One half of her soul was smooth and calm, a certain loving and caring vibe to it. The other half was jagged, as if torn and the edges were rough and out of control.

She interested me, not just her soul but Tawny herself. I smiled, knowing that she won't run away like everyone else. I grinned more showing pointed teeth and for the first time in a long time, I was truly happy to be with someone and not alone.

I sighed and sat down rubbing his eyes as if I was stressed out. The fun had ended. Silver had went back to silent and barely even mumbling.

No problem Maiden. 😊

Tawny:

Flame gave me a crooked grin and the blue fames started again around him in a circle. This time, I stood ready and waited for him to transform into another of his modes.

The sword that he transformed into had a red hilt, the blade sharper but shorter than his normal sword transformation. The blade was emitting a strong aura of red flames, not hot to the touch but a little strange.

His smiling face appeared on the shining surface and he said, "Flame Eruption mode."

Interested, I sat down and held the sword in my hands. Whilst examining it, I must have worn a strange expression because Flame burst out laughing and chuckled in spite of my confused glance.

"This blade cuts through magic energy. I was usually transformed into this when battling a with because it consumes magic energy and is able to fight with it." explained Flame.

"Wow..." I breathed. "This will be good when we fight that witch we need for collecting souls, right?"

"Oh...yeah." Flame transformed back into his human self and I noticed for the first time, a scar on his cheek. It was barely seen but it started just beneath his eyebrow to half way down his cheek.

He turned away and muttered something, as if talking to someone. I glanced in his direction but after all, whatever it was, it had nothing to do with me. I shouldn't interfere. I barely know him anyway so...all the same...something was bothering him. I turned my glance to the other people now, interesting myself with the different weapons that people transformed into. This was a fun day.

{Sorry for crummy and short intro. I can't feel my roght hand and am on mobile so left handed typing forever!}

Alyss stood towards the back of the room a gleaming badge stating Weapon on her chest. She watched others be paired up with Miesters.
She stayed there until a boy with obnoxiously black hair showed up in front of her. He bore a Meister badge and smiled warily arriving on his face as he reached her.
"Found anyone yet?" he asked Alyss and she mutely shook her head.
"You can try, but you'll need these." she added handing him a quiver of arrows.

Tawny:

Whilst everyone else was transforming, Flame showed me two of his modes, his normal katana sword one and a special Flame Eruption one which I reckoned would be great to make him a Death Scythe. I frowned and sat down for a minute, remembering the argument I had had at home with my mother. Flame turned back and crouched against the wall, confused.

"Hey. What's the matter?" he asked.

"Just something I know I need to deal with when I see a certain someone again." I replied. "Nothing much, just had an argument."

"Okay then." said Flame getting up and putting his hands in his pockets.

"Okay class!" called Lady Rachel. All of the students stopped working and transformed back before walking towards her and sitting down. I sat beside Flame and another girl, the girl who handled the "cursed" weapon.

"That was a fine joint effort!" said Lady Rachel smiling. "Many of you are beginning to transform properly whereas the rest of you have already got experience from other times. We will progress your partnership in missions and the lesson after this but right now, it's break so off you go!"

Immediately, a chatter rose among the students and all of us stood up, heading outside. In all the confusion of the crowd, I lost sight of Flame and just followed the flow of people outside the school onto a lovely grass field.

I found myself a nice area beside a tree on a bench and got out a book from my bag where I sat in silence and read, hoping that someone might come to say hello to me.

Flame:

As the excited students walked out of the school, I flitted between them and ran down the stairs to the lawn. I waited for a minute beside a tree before I found the person I was waiting for. The boy with half of his hear cut short and the other medium, his eyes were amber and his skin was light but not pale.

"Hey!" I called, flashing him a grin with my pointed teeth. "Can I borrow you for a second?"

Alyss' eyes widened as they were dismissed and she snatched her quiver of arrows from the boy and left the room before the main flow of people exited.
She wound her way through the areas of the school and found herself sitting inside a small alcove, surrounded on all sides except the entrance by bushes and trees. To be honest she adored being alone, but sometimes isolation got annoying. But not right now, now she loved the silence.

Carylinn made her exit when Requiem did, which was after most of the class left.

She was still feeling nervous about all the new people around her. Most of them probably lived in Death City long enough to at least /kind of/ know each other. She'd just arrived, and the only person she knew was this confusing weapon because they were in the same place at the same time and had the same goal of leaving. The girl twirled a strand of her long, brown hair and stuck by the guy as she had for the past week. Requiem looked down at her with his head only tilted slightly and a subtle change in expression left her a clear message, even though she barely knew him. It said "be brave". It was those tiny gestures that made her think there was someone more under that stoicism.

With that in mind, the young girl smiled a little, glad for the encouragement. She could do it. Making friends hadn't been hard before, right? Just then, she heard someone shout, "hey!"

As they approached the guy from class with fiery hair, and he said, "Can I borrow you for a second?"

Requiem looked at her for a moment. Was he asking for permission to stay and speak to this guy? Carylinn just nodded, acting very in charge, in her opinion.

"Meet me back here later, 'kay?" And with that, she turned and looked around for something to do on her own. Carylinn wandered around, finding there were a lot of bushes and trees around her now. It was almost like you might find a million hiding places in here.
_______________________________________________________________

Requiem sighed inwardly. It wasn't really him to rudely turn away from conversation. Then again, how could he be sure what WAS him these days?

After confirming Carylinn was okay to be alone, he gave his attention, or at least half of it, to the young man in front of him. He'd turned into a flaming katana, if Requiem recalled correctly.

Flame:

The boy stood in front of me, his expression a little annoyed and he seemed not to be paying attention to whatever I had in mind. "You're that 'cursed' weapon, right?" I asked him. The boy sighed but said nothing. "Are the rumors true? Why are you training here?"

I had hardly know most of them but the rumors sounded awful and it struck me as a guy like this to be wandering around plainly when his past isn't great. I gave him a grin to show I wasn't interrogating him. This guy seemed pretty cool but a bit too closed up.

Tawny:

I closed my book with a sigh and got up off the bench. No one had started talking to me so I reckoned I would go and find someone. After all, I'm new here and I didn't know anyone or anything about Death City.

I walked into a kind of enclosed wood and hummed my favorite song to myself. A few birds flew around me and the flowers that grew here were amazing, each one unique with it's own aromatic scent. This place calmed me and I found myself lying in the soft flowerbed, picking flowers and watching blossom petals flowing in the wind.

I heard someone coming through this little forest and I sat up, seeing a girl walking towards me. Her wispy medium brown hair appeared to have lighter tones in the sunlight and was tied back into a pony tail at the shoulders. Her light eyes were smiling and she looked quite young.

"Oh...hello." I said standing up. I wondered if she was knew or if she would even talk to me. Many didn't want to in my old town I had lived in. I smiled at her and waved, hoping we could find something to talk about.

Alyss sighes as she heard voices near her hiding spot. She remained sitting though because while she wasn't really unnoticable on the ground she was for more noticeable standing up. So for now she waited for the first voice to leave.
/Can't a person have some form of peace and quiet. Ever?\ she thought gloomily as neither od the people she could hear seemed to be moving.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sebastian left the class after everyone else and instead of finding other people he wandered around the place stopping as he passed a tree. He looked the being of nature up and down before laying amongst the roots and slipping into a light doze.
I walked to the bench and saw Alyss I sat down with her and said "Hello." I just kept sitting there quietly until I felt like she was getting awkward. I waited for her to say something /Will. They. Be./ Then I spoke out loud. "QUIET!" I cover my mouth and hope that no one heard me. Then I realized the girl was next to me
Alyss just stared at the boy now seat beside her. "You would-" she broke off as the other person shouted something about being quiet. More than likely a statement driven to the other people speaking just out of eye shot for both of them.
This time despite she hated to admit. Alyss smiled-a small thing more a smirk that anything else but it was there. "Voices driving you insane as well?" she asked. "I also never got your name."
{It's fine!}
"It's nice to meet you. I just feel like people speak because they just want to speak, nothing really they need. Sorry if I'm just rambling." He said dully. /I think I might be getting on her nerves, though she is the only person who really understands me, it's kinda like I've known her all my life but she just came into my life now/ I gave her a few seconds to say anything before the teacher shouted. He sighed then he grabbed Alyss by the hand and pulled her up. "Sorry if I. You know. Disturbed you." He motioned to walk off but he stood there
((I'm sorry I should have been clearer in my last post, but Requiem won't look annoyed, since he's typically rather patient. Oh, and to explain something I mention in my post a bit, Requiem has a type of synesthesia, so he sees things when he hears sounds.))
The fiery haired man's voice left him undecided about carrying on a conversation. Requiem couldn't figure out if he found the voice that looked like snappy orange sparks, too bright a colour. But who was he to judge a bright voice where he didn't even like his own like soft, dark, smoky ink drops diffusing slowly through water. Others liked that ink-diffusing-through-water sound a lot. With his next blink he brought himself back to attention, realizing it had been a long moment of silence.
"That's quite the list of questions." Requiem mused, looking indirectly at his inquirer. He didn't need to justify his actions to someone he didn't know, but as an afterthought, he decided to answer the first question. He didn't need enemies here. A conversation, or even an acquaintance wouldn't kill him. Then he finally met the other's dark red eyes with his own rich amber ones. His gaze wasn't unkind.
"You are correct... I am the cursed weapon. But I wouldn't let that bother you. It's just my meisters that have a habit of dying," he spoke flippantly of the topic, in his soft, deep voice.
"Do you have a name?" He asked in a mild manner.
_______________________________________________________________
Carylinn gave a slight start at the sound of a voice.
"Oh, hi! I uh, didn't see you there." She brushed a piece of hair behind her ear.
The young girl walked over to the tawny-haired girl who'd said hi. She seemed nice. Carylinn was relieved she didn't have to make the first move. She could use another friend. Requiem was tough to get to know, and the thought of all his previous meisters being dead was a little unnerving, now that she'd decided to be the next. A distraction would be good.
"My name's Carylinn. You can shorten that, if ya like. How 'bout you?"
Flame:
I chuckled. "Meisters having a habit of dying? That's a good one. My new miester called me Flame now. What's your name?"
I didn't want to sound mean or like I was interrogating him but I did want to get to know this guy better. He didn't seem that bad.
Tawny:
"Oh, hello Carylinn. My name's Tawny." I said. "I'm quite new here and so far I only know one person."
//God, I hope she'll actually want to talk to me.\\ I thought desperately.
"I've only arrived in Death City this morning so I don't know much about this town. I guess I'll be staying with Flame or something for now."
"That at least is true." Requiem pointed out. Not a single one of his previous meisters was alive. He'd watched each of them die.
"Looks like we have something in common. My meister gave me a new name as well. She calls me Requiem. Such a dark sense of humor for a child." The edge of his lips turned up ever so slightly on one side.
_______________________________________________________________
"Just this morning? I can't believe you showed up to class. It's nice to meet ya Tawny." Carylinn laughed. "I just got into the city last night. We're - that is, my weapon and I - are looking for a place. He said he was thinking of ditching afternoon class to look for somewhere. It'll be tough getting somewhere to stay on such short notice... But we'll get by, I'm sure."
The blue-eyed girl paused a moment, realizing she'd sort of starting rambling. "I guess now we both know two people, huh? So is Flame your weapon, or?"
Flame:
"Ha well nice to meet you anyway Requiem." I said. The boy half-smiled and I waved, walking away. Now that that was over, I needed to find Tawny. I still didn't know anything about her and I kinda needed to know more.
//Where is she?\\ I thought wondering around. I gave up after a minute and sat on the steps waiting or her to come when it was time for class again.
Tawny:
Carylinn said, "I guess now we both know two people, huh? So is Flame your weapon, or?"
My eyes widened and I noticed that I was subconsciously fiddling with my skirt. "Or what?" I asked. Then I quickly covered up with a short, "He's my weapon. I only got to know him this morning when I came here so..."
I irritably took my hand away from my skirt to rest on the grass before I saw Lady Rachel calling everyone into class. "We should get going now, Carylinn. It was nice to talk to you." I smiled getting up.
I walked away from Carylinn and came up to the steps where Lady Rachel was already leading everyone back. The hunched figure of a familiar boy sat on the steps as I approached.
"Oh...hey." said Flame looking up. "Where'd you get to all of a sudden? One minute you're here and the next you vanished."
"I vanished?!" I asked confused. "You were the one who wanted to go and meet-"
I stopped for a minute. "Where were you?"
"Met Requiem." Flame replied casually. I raised an eyebrow and he added, "He's really not a bad guy. Quite funny to be honest. And where were you?"
"I met a girl named Carylinn who also just moved here. We're both looking for a home now." I explained.
Flame stood up and started walking up the steps, following half of the class. "Hey, why don't you come live with me?"
I caught up with him and we walked side by side. "Really?"
"Yeah sure." he replied a grin stretching across his tanned face. "It's kinda lonely without anyone around except me."
I smiled. Well that was sorted so now...I could enjoy my day properly. A new spring in my step, I bounced up the stairs, my smiled wide across my face.
"Likewise." Requiem replied as Flame turned and left. Carylinn was no where in sight, so he opted to wait exactly where she'd left him. She was scared. She'd come find him again.
_______________________________________________________________
"It was great to meet you, too!" Carylinn smiled again before taking off to find the beautiful antique gun and get back to class.
"Oh." Carylinn was half surprised to see Requiem standing entirely alone. Her spirits still up from making a friend, she teased, "you haven't started making people disappear here, too, have you?"
"Too soon, I think." Requiem remarked, staring at the sky, though something about their already growing connection told her he was still amused in part, though she could feel a small twinge there, too.
"So. Back to class, or?" The girl asked open ended, wondering if he leave or not.
"Mm." He met her light blue eyes, seeming to wait for her to take the lead.
With that, she put her hands in her pockets and walked to the room to find a pair of seats not too far from Tawny.
A silent blonde girl stood by the door, trying not to attract any attention as she listened to her blaring music, eyes closed and head back, looking rather relaxed. Pinned just out of sight was a tag reading Weapon in flowing handwriting.
Tawny:
We sat in the seats of a semi-circular classroom as Lady Rachel wrote things down on the board. On the way in, Flame walked into some guy and was sitting on my left, Carylinn on my right and her weapon on her's. I smiled. I loved it here in death city and this meant that I could escape the...the...I shook that out of my head and lent against the back of the seat. I admired the people that were sat around us and grinned, knowing that at "home" this wasn't what I would be doing.
Kal walked in late with his casual swagger. The first person he noticed when he entered was a blonde girl with an eye patch over one eye, the other closed. He could hear her music and he grinned. He grinned. He liked loud music, too. She appeared relaxed. He wondered if she was avoiding the everyone else in the room.
"Hi." Kal spoke loudly and tapped her shoulder, hoping, despite it's likelihood, that he wouldn't startle her.
He use a friend. Bonus if she was a weapon. Kal was hoping to find a cool weapon to work with here.
Carylinn took occasional notes while Lady Rachel wrote on the board. She noticed Requiem sat, looking a little bored. Or maybe that was a normal expression. She couldn't really be sure. Though she couldn't blame him for the boredom. He must have lived a pretty intense day to day life before this.
Despite his apparent boredom, she did wonder how he planned on passing any tests they got without notes.
Alyss took the furthest seat from the nearest person and set to taking notes on what Lady Rachel wrote. She kept her nose buried in her paper and rarely looked up, except to read Rachel's words.
She glanced around after a while and observed a few other people around her.
Sebastian shrugged as the boy didn't answer and when found his seat, found he sat next to the flame haired boy.
(I know we said no pings, but it's been a while since anyone posted. No need to read this post if you find it long, it's just a little extra for the lolz while I wait since I wasn't going to write out their quest for a place to live. 😋) @maiden @goodkaylin @appleblizzard
Requiem whispered to Carylinn discreetly, "I'm going to head out now. I'll see what I can do about finding somewhere better to live for the time being."
Without waiting he got up and left the classroom as subtly as humanly possible.
He breathed a slight sigh of relief at being outside on a quiet street, his breath stirring his bangs. The young man was at once aware of his surroundings and completely lost in thought. Requiem often made lists upon lists in his mind of things to get done. Finding somewhere more permanent to live was at the top of his lists.
Requiem's dark amber eyes fixed on a small - but well-off if the window display was any indicator - music store. There was no chance he would have enough spending money to blow it on an instrument, but he opted to take a look in the store regardless. It drew him in like food draws a starved animal. As the lithe young man pushed the door open, a little bell chimed to announce his entrance.
"Good afternoon! Come in, come in!" The old man who appeared to own the place greeted him. His voice looked like sunshine and dark brown. It reminded him of late afternoon light on the knotted wood of an old gnarled tree. In a good way.
The shop had a homey feel, which almost disguised the royalty of the instruments inside it. Requiem was familiar with violins and pianos. It was easy to see the quality knowing what to look for.
"Are you interested in anything in particular?" The old man asked, walking over with a polishing cloth in hand.
"Just looking..." He replied softly, admiring a stunning violin. It wasn't so much that it had a special appearance, but craftsmanship was impeccable. Requiem figured it sounded like perfection. He'd go to great lengths to play something like that.
"That's got to be one of -if not THE- best instrument in the store. My finest work, I'd say." The old man commented after watching him size up the instrument.
"I can imagine." Requiem replied idly, still admiring the simple detail of the violin.
"You play at all?" The old man asked with a smile as he went about polishing a nearby instrument.
"I do... Well, not anymore, since I don't have anything to play." He laughed softly. The piano had been his first love, but he couldn't go back to it...
"Got a job?" The old man asked. "You look new here."
"You ask a lot of questions you already know the answers to." Requiem remarked. "I should find a job. A roof to live under burns through cash faster than anyone would like."
"You look like someone who might know a thing or two. I could use a hand around here. My old bones ain't getting enough done around here anymore." The old man commented casually, as if hiring people just because was a regular occurrence for him.
"I'd like that." Requiem finally looked over at the old man.
"Name's George. I'll have none of that mister and sir nonsense. Makes me feel old." George informed him promptly. His eyes were very full of life. "You got a name, boy?"
"Requiem."
Flame:
Requiem had left class. I stared grimly at the board, not paying attention to what Lady Rachel was writing and my piece of note paper was blank like my head. I lent back against the wall and sighed. Running a hand through my orange hair, I looked over at Tawny.
I thought she was copying notes but instead, I was shocked to see that she was drawing! And not just doodling or anything, she was drawing a place it seemed. All of her shading and colouring made the place look real, alive. I didn't interrupt her until she stopped drawing a cottage at the top of a hill. The cottage looked out towards the sea where a sunset was forming. Tawny bent her head, a sad look about her.
"Hey, everything okay?" I whispered to her. "You draw well good."
She immediately snapped around to face me, swiped everything into her bag and muttered, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Aw, c'mon!" I remarked. "Lemme look!"
She turned away for a minute, reached into her bag, gave me the picture and rested her chin on her hand. She looked more than sad now, more depressed and distant.
I looked at the picture, admiring her talent. Passing it back I asked quietly, "Where is this?"
"It's where I lived before...before..." she trailed off, putting her head in her hands. Her muffled voice whispered, "Before my mum and dad divorced, we lived there. Now, I live in Death City and they are...well...dad lives there with some other woman but mum..."
I didn't know what to think for a moment. "Does your mum live locally?"
She looked up, silently crying and sobbing her response. "She...died. It was a week ago. She couldn't take it and..."
Trailing off, her sobs became heard quietly but no one noticed really. "Er...I'm so sorry to hear that...but...your dad...what did he do?"
She stopped for a moment and laughed, a laugh full or hurt and anger. "My Dad? Do? He didn't care! He didn't even ask about where I was going to stay or what I would do! All he cares about is his work and his woman." She bitterly groaned and gathered the painting back into her bag.
Lady Rachel's voice drifted softly around the room. "Class Dismissed!"
Tawny:
As soon as I heard that we were free to go, I grabbed my bag and pushed my way past the students and out into the hallway. Walking along, following the signs, I came out into the open. Walking towards the stone wall, I sat on it, my legs dangling out towards the small grass forest down below.
Pained, I remembered Mother just before she had died. She told me to never doubt someone close to me. Hah. Like I had someone like that now. Brushing my tawny locks out of my eyes, I noticed someone behind me.
Looking around, I saw Flame, hands in his pockets, waiting quietly. "C'mon. You're staying at my place, right? Like we discussed earlier."
I nodded and walked beside him down the many stairs of the Academy in silence. Could I trust Flame?
