Food, toys, books?

What exactly is the purpose of buying food, toys, and books?

I just joined today and I think I've got everything else figured out, but I can't figure out what functions those serve. I haven't bought any yet because, obviously, I don't know what they do.

@fairfaxians These items will all increase the happiness of the pet you use them one. In addition to this each type has a chance, that increases with the rarity, of raising your pet's stats. Books give views, food gives feeds, and toys give clicks.

They're just fun ways of generating happiness and stats for your creatures. 😊
