Suggested before, but a new view: Changing Your Username

I went back through the forums and looked at the arguments, looked at the most recent posts, and read all the sides on whether it should happen or not, but I have a new sort of idea:


People would be able to change their usernames once or twice only. BUT, whenever they change their username there will be a fee, like there is for abandoning a creature (abandoning a username in this case) which would ensure no one changes their name constantly. The fee would only be EC since some users don't have access to CC. It would be approximately (edit) 1 Mil EC or so. Users here change from main accounts to side accounts for the new names, but yet at the same time, they lose their "join date" and have to refer to the older cover for their time here. Then, the amount of time it takes to trade possibly hundreds of creatures over isn't easy since you can only trade over 5 creatures at a time. And if you wanted to change your username again, you'd have to submit a ticket. Kind of like how on Facebook if you change your name too many times, you have to send in a request or something like that to have your profile name viewed and confirmed to change the name or not.


Some people talked about how it would be hard to keep up with other users names, and someone suggested that it have a "formerly ____" somewhere on the profile. So to that, if you were to change your username, you could be pinged by both your old and new name because you'd have something like a name history. If your old username was searched for, your new profile would come up but with something stating that you're the same user. That way, you couldn't lose track of friends or, as it was said, "cheating users".


Then the side of how people would argue over names. If you change your creature name, you set that name free for anyone else to get it. If you decide to change your username and someone else gets it and you decide you want it back, it would go the same way with a creature's name.


Some people were concerned about how the staff would have to work to change the names: Would they have to go in and change a lot, or go in and change something small? The thing with that is, no one but them knows that. If the idea was seriously considered, they'd explain it so they could confirm or deny how difficult changing names would be.


And then, the thing I've never seen suggested before, if you're concerned about the join date and want to keep your time on your main profile, like me, you can switch your main to one of your sides and request to have that labeled as your new main so you can have your join date switched to that account. Then have an automatic transfer system, only in your account settings, to switch coves with that account. Doing so would only be allowed by "consent" from both accounts, meaning you have to log into both to request and confirm, like trading, offer and confirm, the switching action.


I tried to look at every argument and suggest this new idea 😊 so I hope that I covered most concerns with the idea ❤️

I am having the same dilemma. I picked out my username over 6 years ago, when I wasn't even sure I would stick around long term and Egg Cave was jut a was to pass the time. Fast forward to now and I would love to be able to change it to something that I would relate to more as an adult, versus as teenager. Hopefully they will add the ability to do this down the road.

Yes please. I really want to change allele to something else, a name I've wanted forever but can't make because I have all my storage accounts already. I'd say make it either CC option/item for maybe 200 CC or something or an EC option for a mil or so (in such a case, you could change your name only once a month or something).

I wouldn't need to use it, I'm 100% content with my username. 😊

Might would change the name of my side if it became available.

I think the idea is good, but I think it would make things very confusing.

Definitely would need to up the price of changing your name though. I can get 50k within a few hours of casual feeding. I think @metaphor 's idea of 200cc/2mil ec is a better price.


I would much rather have the ability to link my main account with my sides. The date joined would be taken from the oldest account linked.

I think i at one point suggested account linking, either that or i thought about bringing it back up lol

But yeah, a mil+ EC would be a good price. But not CC, because there are some people who cant get CC, that was brought up too.

I see how things could be a little confusing but i kinda look at it like the kik app, you can change your name, but people would still get in contact with you by your login name. Or somthin like that 😋

I think overall i'm neutral on the subject. I wouldnt mind if they added it, but I wouldn't be upset if they didn't.

I'd really like this idea implemented, for obvious reasons😋. One of those reasons being it's hard for others to spell my username, so when they send me important things like cc or a rare travel of sorts, it's rather difficult. I mean, unless they just copy and paste.

I agree that it should be around 1mil ec or 100cc. But I'd prefer the idea of the latter(100cc) more to discourage some people from changing their name as constant name changing would be rather confusing to people on the site. And if you were really serious about the new name you wanted, you would find the means to get that cc.

But overall, I think this is a great idea and the mods really should consider something like this^.^

Yes, I fully agree with this idea.
I was rather reluctant to move my main(The old one had a awful username 'cuz I made it over 5 years ago), and I'd really love to rename my side account.
I'd like to be able to link accounts as well, so I could move my join date.

@mlpnko159 Maybe it should be like....EC the first time and then CC the next time, which they could trade EC for the CC vouchers.

@spell It could be a CC thing for maybe more than once

@kas I want to keep my join date too lol and i made this account at 12 when i had a different like so now it's something i'm fond of and dont want to lose but i want a diff main name

I need this. xD I'd love to be able to change my username, for obvious reasons. I completely agree with the points you bring up: it's too much work to switch over creatures, the join date is gone.

Though a biggie for me would be the loss of an expanded cove. I've spent nearly a mil on it, and although it's not that much, I'd rather not lose that.

YES! EGGCAVE NEEDS TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

The "Formerly known as _______" thing is really awesome! I tried to switch my creatures over to a different account, but I ended up just giving up because.... 1) It took was too long to trade all the creatures over 5 at a time and I'm too lazy 😋 2) Everyone would automatically assume I'm a newbie because they wouldn't know my actual join date.

I don't have a second account but I do feel like these are all valid ideas, and should be looked into!
it would make things much easier. I like the thought of being able to be searched by your old name even when you change it so people don't lose good friends on here. 😊

Personally, I wouldn't change my username, but I am here for this! I don't agree with one point you've made though.. I don't think we should be able to be pinged by both our old and new usernames, I think once you change your username, your old username should be released back into the wild lol and up for grabs. I do however, agree with the name change history log idea.
