Is there a pattern to the Mad Science game?

I was just wondering, is the poisoned food completely random, or does it have a pattern?

not sure. if there is, here are some items i've found to be poisonous and not poisonous. (not quite sure what the items are called so i kinda made up names lol)

Blue tentacle- poisonous
White bat thing popping out of chocolate cake- poisonous
Brown cayni head cookie- poisonous
brown/pink tentacle- not poisonous
Teal squid thing wrapped around stick- not poisonous
