Lost Creatures?

What is a lost creature? I see on a lot of people's profiles that "if lost please return immediately", how do you "lose" a creature?

@icesparkle22 I guess its if somehow they get scammed or hacked or whatsoever then it will be returned. Just like in the trading safety thingamabob it says that if a creature is renamed once traded away or if scammed or hacked then I think it is considered a lost creature.
