The Gifted and the Cursed {Sign-Ups & Discussion}

Throughout the city of Pandyssia there are dozens of Gifted individuals. Or Cursed individuals, depending on who you talk to. The sudden uprising of said individuals occurred after an unprecedented eclipse around five years prior.

Most individuals keep their existence a secret from others, taking to meeting in secret amongst small groups. Some have embraced their powers, others have shunned their powers, others act indifferent. Many try to go about their daily lives, and live in a sort of unison with their powers.

Of course people with powers weren't the only thing to have sprung up since the eclipse. There have been rumors and belief that organizations were formed to keep the Gifted/Cursed regulated. While others claim there are groups dedicated to giving them more of a voice in other communities.

Gifted/Cursed

A population of people who have genetic mutations dictating that they would have powers. These mutations lay dormant for generations until the recent eclipse seemed to set off a chain reaction and cause the powers of these individuals to manifest. The Gifted/Cursed are often scorned because of their powers, and so often are treated worse than others. Mainly out of fear by most.

The Institute

The Institute is a group of people, some without powers and some with, who seek to properly understand and regulate the people with powers. Their purpose is to attempt to keep tabs on a majority of the population of Gifted/Cursed individuals, and if possible to negate their powers if they prove a threat.

The Institute has set up a system of cafe's and coffee shops for members to work at as a cover. The Institute’s true side lies in an elaborate underground tunnel network beneath the main shop.

Put TI in the faction section to be a part of the Institute.

Shadow Walkers

The Shadow Walkers are a group of Gifted, who embraced their powers. They seek to end the barriers between the powered and unpowered. They believe that those with powers should be respected, and maybe even revered.

They tend to recruit those from all walks of life, and don't provide jobs for their members. They work in secret from various abandoned buildings scattered around the capital city Pandyssia.

Put SW in the faction section to be a part of the Shadow Walkers.

Rules

- No Godmodding, Powerplaying, or Faultless/Overly Faulted Characters
- Avoid using mind reading, mind control, unconditional immortality, full blown invincibility, weather manipulation, and other such large scale powers, or omnipowers
- No power limit, but please keep all powers one has related.
- Have the ages be reasonable for the situation
- Try not to go on murder rampages. As killing is forbidden.
- Not everyone has powers, so make nonpowered characters too
- I get anxiety from excessive use of capitals, so please avoid using all caps I can and will ignore you if you do so.
- If you agree to the rules give me a completely random fact about your character in code, and optionally a theme song in other. I will do this backwards.
- I would also refrain from needless punctuation.
- To keep things running please ping everyone involved.
- Keep genders nearly even, but not necessarily perfectly even.
- Follow the site rules, and please don't do any form of romance
- Everything in the form is required unless marked with an asterisk(*).
- Every character needs a limit on their powers, not something that stops their powers. But a literal limit to their usage. Of course small powers, like language powers or specific powers that are sight related, don't need one of these due to the nature of said power

Name: Swift Anders
Age: 19 years
Gender: Male
Looks: Swift has messy black hair and green eyes. He stands at around five seven and is rather lanky and frail looking.
Clothing: A gray shirt and blue jeans. In cold weather he wears a large brown coat.
Power(s)*: Able to walk without being noticed, to be forgotten by those who see him
Weakness(es)*: Swift’s power can only function on a limited scale. Only people near him will forget him. People too far away from him will still know, and things written will remain.

Occupation*: None
Personality: Very bubbly and excitable, Swift tends to be eager to get things done. He can often be found doing things that can be more reckless in the grand scheme of things, but he always does what he thinks will end up best in the end.
Past: Swift grew up in a relatively poor family, and when his powers manifested Swift began to build up his own wealth. He fell into working with the Shadow Walkers after he ran into one of them.
Other: Swift has taken to running as a field operative for the Shadow Walkers.

Weakness(es)*: She can only chill air 3 feet or less away from her. The chilling can only go to the coldest tempature the area has gone through. Her power won't work near extreme heat or in direct sunlight.

Personality: Stubborn, doesn't like being bossed around, quick to snap
Past: She was a normal kid until that eclipse, after that she kept her powers a secret until stumbling upon some Institute members at a coffee shop

I'd Like to sign up but I have a question first, did all the people with abilities get them at the eclipse or are some people getting them later?

(Also @thebrokenvibe I'll be going on a small holiday in a few days and won't be able to get online to rp this or Pineclan)

@alastrine Most would have gotten them during them eclipse, very few would develop them afterwards unless they were fairly young(less than 12 years) at the time of the eclipse.

What is Pandyssia like? hot? cold? near forests? inner city?

@alastrine Something close to a temperate area temperature wise, cold winters and warm summers. Spring and fall rainy and any temperature the days feel like. To get a better image of the city itself, it's very industrialized. A good reference is to look up Dunwall City from the Dishonored Series, or even Columbia from Bioshock Infinite. As both of those are kinda what I use for reference.

Looks: Alexi is short, with messy long orangeish-red hair. She has dark brown eyes.
Clothing: Alexi wears a simple flannel and jeans.
Power(s)*: Alexi has telekinesis and teleportation.
Weakness(es)*: It takes a lot of energy to teleport, and she can only lift objects she could feasibly lift.
Faction*: TI
Occupation*: Alexi works as a barista at a coffee shop under the ownership of many other members of the Institute.
Personality: Alexi is rather shy and caring, she often will do whatever necessary to keep her friends happy. Even if that ends poorly for her.
Past: Alexi was a relatively normal girl, she had a nice life and a decent school career. Until the eclipse when she developed her powers. She often would subconsciously use her powers, causing issues with school work. Eventually the Institute found her and she quickly joined grateful to find people who would help her out.
Other: Alexi is close friends with Sylar.

Occupation*: She attends the local school. But works as a cashier at a few of the Institute's coffee shops.
Personality: Nyssa is very curious and adventurous. She tends to get into trouble as a result, and most often than not can smooth talk her way out of particularly foul punishments. She is very warm and welcoming, more so than her twin is at least.
Past: Nyssa and her brother Nate had very normal lives. They were doing well in school, with a few exceptions after the eclipse. They were eventually fed up with the attitudes of some of the more pompous of the powered people, and jumped to help the Institute.

Age: 20
Gender: Male
Looks: He is 6 foot in height, slightly muscular but, for the most part lithe. He has brunette unkempt hair, pale skin and hazel brown eyes. Warren also has claw mark scars, one on his left wrist, one on his right ankle and a large set on his right shoulder.
Clothing: Warren wears a white t-shirt with a watercolour sketch of a falcon on it, though it is only sometimes seen as he wears a medium to dark grey hoodie over it, he wears navy blue jeans with a few small rips from wear and tear as well as a pair of slightly worn runners.
Power(s)*: To put as simply as possible he has superhuman synesthesia so he sees shapes and colour when he hears, tastes, touches you name it as well as that he can physically see feelings and emotions as well as other powers. He sees another thing, almost like spider webs and string connecting items and people, if he pulls them it works like telekinesis. (He may discover new abilities as time goes on as he tries not to use his power as much as possible)
Weakness(es)*: Overloads, He is very sensitive now so too much of any sense overwhelms him, too much noise or too many bright colours will leave him, dizzy with a headache or worse symptoms. Bright & unbridled emotion or powerful abilities has the same effect.

Occupation*: He works veterinarian, he is still mostly in training.
Personality: Warren tends to keep to himself mostly and never stands out in a crowd, he is however very outgoing and friendly when he needs to be, he is quick to trust and see the good in people first unless proven otherwise. He is quite charming and has the face and smile of someone who could talk their way out of anything, those skills are rarely needed though now as he is slightly reclusive and isn’t a fan of heroism, he would rather be left out of conflict and steer clear of danger.
Past: Warren was born to middle-class family on the outskirts of the city, with a modest and modest pay, it was a modest way of life. His life was very uneventful for a long time, that is until the eclipse. He was 15 and had got himself a summer job as a park ranger in a national park a few miles away from the city. Warren was running a brief tour of several rock formations for a few tourists when the eclipse happened, two of the hikers seemed a bit of off and as the tour when on they became like animals and their nail grew, out of the blue the two attacked the others, the girl he was working with was killed but other than her Warren took the most of it. He woke up in a hospital several hours later and discovered his power. Since then he has recovered and gone back to living a quiet life now in the inner city.
Other: Warren is a regular at the institute’s cafe and clueless to their second nature.

Name: Benjamin Roth
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Looks: He has long dark brown hair usually tied to a short ponytail (like the Witcher) and keeps himself clean shaven. He has dark brown eyes and tanned skin, and is around six feet. He also has a broken arm, so he uses the other arm for everything he does.
Clothing: Normally, he wears a plain grey tee with a dogtag around his neck and simple black jeans.
Power(s)*: Pyrokinesis
Weakness(es)*: He smokes. Unless he smokes, he can't do anything well, including using his powers.
Faction*: SW
Occupation*: Pretty much unemployed other than occasional odd jobs.
Personality: Benjamin is the kind of person who doesn't care even when he sees someone die. He is cold, callous and tries his best not to socialise with anyone out of the Shadow Walkers, but is also more bark than bite. He tries to argue his way in a disagreement, and he can hold his temper well. If he is ever angry, he will start to use his powers, but that is mainly the only time he would use them. Despite this, he is loyal to his friends, who are the lucky few, and faction. He can never be bribed, unless in some special circumstances.
Past: Benjamin was born to family without a mother. He and his father had a normal life, other than the time when he broke his arm, and they didn't get it treated because of financial problems. The year of the eclipse, was also the year when his father died. His father was killed in a mass murder that happened some time after the eclipse, so he thinks of the eclipse as a curse. His father's death was also the cause of his current personality. When he found out he was one of those with powers, he continued on with his life as per normal, without using his powers at all.

Code: He has an interest in guns. He carries some shotgun shells with him wherever he goes, if not along with a pistol or revolver. He can ignite the gunpowder in the shells with his powers, and they can have mini explosions.

Name: Conner Glenn
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Looks: He has short curly auburn hair, green eyes and stands around 5' 5".
Clothing: He wears a black button shirt loosely, sometimes with a beige coat. He wears jeans and leather shoes matching his shirt.
Power(s)*: He can sometimes see a few seconds into the future (not by will) if he will be in danger. If he decides to do something, he can see the result of his actions, but it will be too late to change the future again by then. He won't be able to see the future every time in danger though.
Weakness(es)*: After using his power, he gets very weak and his power cannot be used again for the rest of the day.
Faction*: TI
Occupation*: He's a paramedic.
Personality: Conner is the average friendly guy who treats most people well. He is stoic and keeps his feelings to himself, only entrusting them to his friends. On the outside, he's the joker and tries his best to be the contagiously cheerful guy.

I’d Make an IT person but we way too many… like seriously. So here is an SW.

Gender: Female
Looks: Abigail stands at five foot eight if she isn’t slouching or shifting her weight to a single leg with her hands on her hips. Muscle can be seen clearly under her dark brown skin, her hair is even darker and in curly ringlets that come down to just a little past her shoulder, she also has one brown eye almost black in colour and the other a brilliant ice blue.
Clothing: Abigail has gold loop earrings that sway as she walks as well as numerous gold thin bangles and anklets dotted with blue stones. Abigail wears a white t-shirt under her blue-grey jacket which’s sleeves nearly reach her elbows, she has blue-grey pants of the same material only with a touch of green to the fabric
Power(s)*: Water manipulation
Weakness(es)*: She can’t control a lot of water at a time without causing physical pain and heat/the cold also impedes her powers.

Occupation*: Waiter
Personality: Abigail was boisterous and overconfident in most endeavours when she was younger, she still bites don’t worry but she is much more focused, driven and reflective than loud and sassy now. She is quick to anger and she can get very defensive very fast but, she is methodical and hard-working, she tries as hard as possible to control her emotions. Abigail comes across as headstrong, a little bitter and analytical but that's not her whole picture.
Past: She was born into a fairly poor family in the lower-class sector of the city, she had half a dozen older brothers and one step-sister, she didn’t feel very close to any of them. After the eclipse and she got her ability her whole outlook on life changed and she tried to turn her life around and she joins the new forming ‘Shadow Walkers.'

Personality: Cheeky, cute, a bit of a show off. Kind of a fantasy geek. Although easily gets frightened.
Past: When he was a younger child, he was friends with some other kids, and they'd play together every day. Suddenly, after the eclipse, most of them got powers. The next day he came over, they attacked him and joined the Shadow Walkers.
Other: Sage has a fear of the dark, and a fear of magic.
Code: Sage is the type of person who trip over even his own feet.

@neko-sama Just wanting to double check, your recent character is three foot eight inches, smaller than the average person with drawfism? Just as a double check for the height ratio.
