Christmas or Hum-Bug....what do u think?

*Me--I take it day by day. My family is "scattered" so not sure from year to year exactly where I'm going to be in mind or body. Here or there. With or without...

*I hate the commercialism & how "gifts" have gotten so out of control.

*What happened to appreciating ur family & friends year round from ur heart? Why does it seem to be heightened at the Christmas Season? Why does it seem as if ppl have to have a reason to get into the "Holiday Cheer?"

*What about the forgotten ones that don't have the "cheer"?

*I wish ppl would wake up to the ones that feel or actually r "left out."

*So for me....Christmas or Hum-Bug....only time will tell....

@raindrops

I love christmas, it's my favorite holliday. I start collecting what i'm going to give to people early in the year and buy a little at a time *i generally do a christmas bag for each family group* even though everyone always says to just get presents for the kids.. which i guess at this point are my grand nieces and nephews.
It's also the time to make chess tarts, which my great aunt hazel used to make every year before her passing. It's not christmas without chess tarts. (they are a bit of an acquired taste though)

@raindrops

while there are chess tart recipes on line, they aren't the same, i think these are her own tweaked recipe.

G-Aunt Hazel's chess tarts:

1/4 C butter
1 C Sugar
2 Eggs
1 1/4 C Raisins - Soaked and Drained (basicly soaked in warm water for about an Hour) 1 C Chopped Walnuts
1 t Vanilla

Mix first 3 ingedients and vanilla well, add raisins and nuts. Ladle into pie dough lining cup cake tins (about 2/3rds full)
Bake at 375 for 25 to 30 minutes

@dusskfall Ty so much for sharing the "secret" recipe! Ik things online just arent the same as home-made from family or friends. I tweak all of my baking no matter what. I'm a baker better than a cook...lol. Although I do know how to cook, it doesn't seem the same to me as baking the good sweets! lol.

The G-Aunt Hazel's chess tarts sound mouth-watering. Will save & have to try.

Again....thx for sharing! Very special to me when ppl share their recipes. Ummm... 😊

@raindrops

they are kind of expensive to make. nuts are very costly and i usually double the recipe so there is enough to go around
It's not really a 'secret' recipe it's more of a family recipe. Just like a lot of the older recipes.. they seem to have been altered from what the norm was.
