How long until a forum expires?

Like, how long does it take before a forum is considered dead and will be locked if someone posts inside it? I just want to know when a forum goes stale for all types of forums, not just one. For future reference.
Edit: Yes I know I posted in the wrong one I clicked the Post button before I was ready.

The time a topic is considered "dead" varies depending on the type of topic. Trade topics tend to die the fastest, a couple of weeks or so as by then the person doing the trading is usually done. Games take the longest to "die", generally a few months. Creature suggestions are never considered dead.

So when we close topics its generally on a case by case basis. However, if its been more than 6 months since a topic has been posted in it can generally be considered dead. Anything over a year since the last post is dead and should not be posted in. (the only exception is, as stated above, creature suggestions)
